I have a Fujitsu scanner. If there is someone who can help me with the right settings and the post processing I could probably start on the ones that I have Darryl
-
Like I noted earlier, I have six boxes of BYTE that I am willing to donate, but they are located here in Australia. If you are able to arrange their transport you can have them. Darryl

I am guessing that each of the six boxes of BYTE magazines is about 15 kg. They might cost about $100-$150 each to send to Europe.

If anyone else is interested in doing some scanning, I have a few boxes of newer Byte magazines here in Oz. The only issue is that these magazines are not light meaning that shipping can get expensive. Having said that, I am wanting to get rid of them to a good cause. The magazines that I had that are within the series ThumpNugget is scanning should have arrived at his place now - I sent a box of about 20 across earlier this year Darryl

People I have a heap of BYTE magazines from 1994-1998 that I want to get rid of. I would prefer that they go to someone who is going to scan them, but to be honest, I would be happy if they did not go to paper recycling. And I would rather they went to someone who would appreciated them rather than someone who just wants to collect. Here is the deal - let me know if you want them. You will be responsible for paying for postage from Australia. There are about three boxes, and I am guessing that makes it about 60 pounds but I could be under-estimating here. These issues are already on the BYTE CD-ROM as text which is why I am OK with getting rid of them. Of course I would prefer high res scans but you cannot have everything, can you :-) Darryl

This is really great news. I am just wondering if one issue should be released every few days as a way to manage the impact on servers and the like Darryl

G'Day All Just wondering if anyone has managed to get onto the Italian guy who has been doing his own scans. It seems like his home server is still being hammered by people attempting to download copies of the magazine, and I don't really want to add to the problems. Also, he has one of the Byte issues scanned already that I have here for Scanning, and it would be good not to have to send the magazine across the pacific if there is no need :-) Darryl

ThumpNugget: Do you still need Vol 7 Num 2 'Winter Computing'? It contains part 6 of the Atari Tutorial. I found another box of BYTE magazines here, and this issue was in it. I can send it across. Darryl

ThumpNugget: I sent the BYTE magazines to you today via SEA mail. They will take about 2-3 months to get there probably, unless they send them by AirMail accidentally. The key numbers - 19 Issues; 15.560 KG (just under 35 pounds); A$153.70 postage; If you decide to scan more once you have up to volume 11, I have a lot more magazines I can get rid of. That I want to get rid of in fact :-) To the person who offered UPS, thanks, but in the end, ThumpNugget has a backlog of magazines so there is no need to get them there fast. Australia Post will get them there fast enough. Darryl

OK... I have just checked my list, and here is what I have that you are missing, to the end of volume 11... Vol 6: 7/June 11/Nov Vol 7: 5/May 8/Aug 10/Oct Vol 8: 3/Mar 4/Apr 7/Jul 11/Nov Vol 9: 12/Nov 10/Sep Vol 10: 2/Feb 3/Mar 4/Apr 5/May 6/June 7/Jul 10/Oct 12/Nov [Note: Vol 10 has 13 issues...][February does not have a front cover] This should be 19 issues. If you don't need them quickly I can ship them via sea mail and they should get there in about three months I am guessing. No use wasting money on air mail if they are just going to sit on a table at your end. Up to you really... And do we need to be looking for a new scanner for you :-) Or at least find you some sewing machine oil for some of the bearings and gears Darryl

ThumpNugget: Thanks for all this. I have a heap of BYTE magazines mostly from the 1980's that you can slice and cut if needed. I would offer to scan these myself for you by my sheet feed Fujitsu really needs replacing after having done 100,000 pages or so! But I can certainly ship you the BYTE magazines from here in Oz if needed at my cost. Why have I done 100,000 pages? Well, I have scanned most of issues of Electronics Australia and ETI and a number of other magazines from the mid-1970's onwards in TIFF monochrome format. Not as nice as the PDF's of BYTE but readable and since I started in the 1990's disk space was an issue. But I have issues here if people need them - distributing the full collection is an issue since there is a copyright holder, at least at the moment Darryl
