Amazing vintage tv find - TV experts, what do I have?
trey s replied to Satoshi Matrix's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I had a very similar tv made by Sony. The external speaker inputs were quite common on high end tv sets back then. The Tv did not have an amplifier in it, you had to buy a set of self powered speakers to use the inputs (much like most computer speakers these days). A good deal of console tv sets had those speaker inputs as well. This was back in the days of companies making a line of accessories for their tv sets, and they would have a set of external speakers you could buy for the set. As to why that tv has so many inputs, who knows? Panasonic and other companies as well wanted to make sure the buyer had inputs for all their video devices (vcr, laserdisc) as well as game systems would be my guess.. trey (oddly a few weeks back I was in a local Salvation Army and they had a old Zenith tv complete with the external speakers. They wanted way too much for it tho) -
Craigslist loon says he got ridculous prices from AtariAge.
trey s replied to trey s's topic in Atari 2600
I think you hit it, Benny. Storage Wars/Ebay was probably the culprit. I think he googled some Atari sites to sound like he knew what he was talking about...... There used to be this guy at our local flea market that tried to sell a lot of over priced classic gaming stuff, I think it may have been the same guy. trey -
Spied an ad on my local CL Monday (he has since deleted it or Id link it here). Was an ad for a 2600 and 20 games. No price listed, but he had a number to call. I figured what the hey, maybe Ill get lucky. Called the guy,and he starts talking about how great a shape its in, etc etc. I asked what games he had, and he rattled 20 of the most common titles you can think of. (Space Invaders, Asteroids, Combat, Pitfall etc etc). I asked how much, and he wanted 400 bucks for it all. I said, well its probably worth a hundred maybe, closer to 75 is more like it. He then said "Oh no, I went to a web site called AtariAge.com and asked on the forum what its worth, and they told me that." I was kind of surprised he mentioned Atari Age. So I said I was a member of Atari Age, and read the forums every day,and I really dont think anyone there told you it was worth 400 bucks. He then said "it must have been some other forum, I dont remember" . Anyways, I told him not interested, and kept trying to get off the phone with him. He just was not going to let me go. I finally (and I hated to be rude like this) just hung up on him. Like I said above, I was shocked when he mentioned this site.......He took the ad down later that day......Wonder if he will post it again??? trey

Hmm, Well I guess mine is I have never played thru an entire Mario Brothers game? Just never had the desire to do it. I got somewhat out of gaming in the mid 90s due to the platforming craze.....Just lost interest for a while there. What got me back was seeing Resident Evil in a store, walked out with a PS, Resident Evil game, and a memory card and several other accessories. trey

Why I play more Atari 2600 than Xbox 360
trey s replied to BydoEmpire's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I play my modern systems as much as my old ones, depends on the mood I am in. I dont play online tho, and have only brought a few add on packs off Xbox live. I was furious last winter when I found I had to buy a 60 dollar Xbox Live Gold Membership to watch Netflix on my 360. No problem, I wanted a Blu Ray player, so I went and got a Sony Blu Ray with a network connection. Watching Netflix for free (not counting the Netflix subscription) on my tv now. I must have gotten a magic 360 or something, I got mine in January of 08, and its still going strong. I play it a fair amount as well. I am getting sick to death of the constant barrage of "Halo of Duty" type games tho. Red Dead Redemption was a nice surprise, As are the Mass Effect games. But yes, you guys are right, the quality of the modern systems are lacking. Companies are in too much of a hurry to get something on the market these days. A little less greed, a little more quality control? trey -
I gave up. Too much of a head ache to watch a few movies. trey

Yep thats how I set it up. It seems to be the same case with others as me, almost never works with WMC, will work for a day or so with Zune. trey

No Mcaffee, Have Micro Soft Security Essentials, I dont think it is the issue.I am using windows 7. Wired Connection indeed works, but is not a solid solution. Thanks for the tips guys ! trey

Okay, been having this problem for a week. First tried to do it with Windows Media Center. Got all the info off the Xbox, the key and all. It would work, but was really sluggish. It took it over an hour once to find all the media on my PC, which was not that much (less than 50 files). Finally got it to work, good speed and all, then it kept disconnecting. I gave up on that after trying around 15 different fixes I found on the web. Yesterday, I was in a store, and mentioned to someone working in the store, and they said download Zune to my Xbox and to my PC. Tried it, worked like a charm. I was watching movies off my PC thru my Xbox 360 on my tv. All was good, till today, I get up and nothing. Xbox could not find my PC. Been fooling with it for a few hours, and nothing works. Tried some fixes on the web, none of them work. I can go into my network, and the PC and Xbox are both there............any one got a clue how to fix this? trey

Not to be mean or anything, but that's not at all what he wants and it will not work. Yeah, was just a wild shot. I figured since it was going from VGA to composite, it might have worked the other way around, but now that I think about it, you are probably right. What should he look for then? I might be interested in it myself. Thanks everyone ! Yeah, ya'll said about what I figured, just thought Id ask and make sure. And, as Austin said, What would I look for? trey
