I wonder if that movie could be saved via editing? The novelization, while still painfully stupid, was a bit better than the screen action. 

I'd cut "row row row your boat" for sure. 

Then again, I'm closer in age to those old farts now than I was then, so maybe I'd enjoy it more now. 

And marsh melons. 

I'm pretty certain there's already a fan edit (or edits) of the film to make it less of a shitshow than the original movie.

I've heard that Shatner tried (unsuccessfully) to get Paramount to fund a Special Edition with replacement visual effects.  I don't think that would be enough to fix the most serious problems with the movie, but it would certainly be an improvement.  I still think that a "Star Trek V" game would be great; a few years ago, I offered a few not-so-serious game ideas here.
