  1. I agree I think you would be happier with 300-400GB drive. I wouldn't buy a refurbed one either. I usually buy from newegg since they are just a few miles away and its pretty much next day shipping for me. I think you could get a new Toshiba 80gb for about $40 with a google search.

  2.

What IDE to USB adapter do you have?

I use this one from amazon. It does SATA and IDE. They are pretty widely available at Amazon or NewEgg. Anyone will work. One of these days I should try a 2TB drive since they are pretty cheap now.

If you only have an ISO, are you burning that to disc, or removing the HDD and hooking it back up to your PC? In terms of compatibility, a few friends of mine have mainly switched over to OPL, which I used for my slim PS2.

For an ISO, I remove the HDD from the PS2 and plug it into my IDE to USB adapter. I run WinHIIP on my PC and select add image. It will then copy the ISO to the PS2 HDD. I then plug the HDD back in the PS2 and run HDLoader.

  4. The new hard drive only method I've tried out is using an old 300GB IDE drive on an extra PS2 I have. The nice thing is you don't have to open the PS2 to do a disc swap to get it installed. All you do is format the new drive on a PC with WinHIIP and then install the new disc image with HHDRawCopyPortable. Then just stick the new drive in the PS2 and your golden.

Below are instructions and the link to the image file. The image file takes about two hours due to the slow file server. That file has all the tools you need.

  5. About six months ago I picked up a fz-1 at goodwill for $15. It came with a soccer game. I burnt some CDs for it. Some worked. Some didn't. I enjoyed the system but it reminded me too much of my 486 at the time. The graphics and games where the same back then. I have it on display now but don't play it. It's easier to run the emulator off the computer instead. Never liked it as much I thought I would. Probably because I played most of these games before on my ps1 and 486 back in the day.
