  1. But this isn't about any lack of creativity among game developers, artists, writers or anyone else. It's about money, and the fact that the market has trapped games in a f*cking creative coffin (and developers will tell you the same). Everybody complains about sequels and reboots in Hollywood, but holy shit, it's nothing compared to what we have in gaming right now.

For instance, each of the Big Three game console makers took the stage at E3 to show off their biggest games of the upcoming year. Microsoft led off with the aforementioned Modern Warfare 3, which is really Call of Duty 8 (game makers like to switch up the sequel titles so the digits don't get ridiculous). Next was Tomb Raider 10 (rebooted as Tomb Raider). Then we had Mass Effect 3, and Ghost Recon 11 (titled Ghost Recon: Future Soldier). This was followed by Gears of War 3, Forza 4 and Fable 4 (called Fable: The Journey).

Sony came up next and announced a sequel, another sequel and then a reboot. After that it went sequel, sequel, special edition of a sequel, new FPS, sequel, new FPS, sequel, special edition of a sequel, new game based on an existing property (Star Trek), sequel, sequel and sequel. Then they introduced a new system (the PS Vita) and showed it off with four sequels.

Nintendo's list went: sequel, sequel, sequel, sequel, sequel, sequel, sequel, sequel, sequel and (hold on, let me double check here) a sequel. And you already know what those were, even if you haven't played a video game in 15 years: Mario Kart, Mario World, Luigi, Zelda, Kirby, etc. Then they showed off their new system (the Wii U) with a demo reel promising that some day it would allow us to play sequels like Arkham Asylum 2, Darksiders II and Ninja Gaiden 3.

This here is why all of the innovation in games seems to be about going backward, simplifying instead of pushing the experience further. They are trying to lower the barrier of entry for gaming as a hobby, because they don't know where else to go with it.

That was a great and funny ass post. I agree completely, but where do the developers go from here? Either they conform or the companies hire new guys to tow the line.

  2. I have read this twice and have no fucking clue what the hell is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are people mad about high bids. Her carts are in Excellent shape and should get the higher end price. We all know she is not "savy" to forums and all the Bullshit that goes on here. She is just trying to sell some games. give her some slack. If she wants to cancel the auction she has every right to. I am 100% positive she is not in "cahoots" with anyone.

The one thing about this thread that is confusing to me is the part where nopaybob says Ax is sending him B.S. P.M.s.

  4. Golf N' Stuff - Norwalk, CA (it's still there, but their selection of classic machines is a fraction of what it used to be)

Fun World - Downey, CA (closed sometime in 1986-1987, still have a few of their tokens...I grew up less than a mile from it)

PJ's - Cypress, CA (I lived around the corner from it for a few years in the early-80's, it now appears to be a 7-11...the first place I ever saw Dragon's Lair)

Castle Park - Riverside, CA (haven't been there since around 1999, but it looks like it's still around. I remember a LOT of their machines were always broken...)

Starcade - @ Disneyland (I worked at Disneyland from April of '88 until March of '92 - they always had the oldies up on the second level - the only place I've ever seen a Steeplechase machine)

Bullwinkle's - Upland, CA (this was like a Chuck-E-Cheese, but with a Bullwinkle and Rocky theme...I worked here for about 15 months when I was in high school...their arcade was quite good...looks like it's still there but with a different name/theme? There was a mini golf/arcade place next door, but the name escapes me...I got mugged in the parking lot there when I was 18...bwahaha)

I also vaguely remember going to another (small) arcade on the north end of Downey, CA that had a large amount of bootleg games...it was only open for a couple years and closed in 1986ish. I also remember an arcade in the Buena Park Mall where the entrance was a long corridor filled with multi-colored lights and made up like you were walking through a space ship or something. It was extremely impressive when I was 12-13 years old...

Golf n Stuff, was'nt that the arcade/golf/hydrotube place that was in the Karate Kid? If it was, that place looked truly incredible.

  5. just about every williams game made.

    #1 - Joust.

    #2 - defender, stargate.

    #3 - sinistar

    #4 - robotron

i find blaster pretty easy, fwiw.

    non williams games:

#1 - venture. damned controls, mainly.

    #2 - zaxxon.

    #3 - major havoc.

I don't know about some of your list, Joust and Robotron are pretty easy with alot of practice. Sinistar, Defender, and Stargate I definitely agree with. They are close to impossible to play for very long. And I have tried for the last 20+ years.

  6. Thanks Mxy - But I actually do pay a good price for games - I'm just persistent

No problem, I just stated the truth as I see it. Honestly though, do you try to get ignorant people to side deal or what? I know Mcgrail and Philflound do big time, but how the hell do you get all your extremely rare games? I am talking about the extremely rare stuff that you somehow have. I honestly think you have almost every single Atari 2600 product x2 in your possession and slowly sell it at an absurd profit. I have no problem at all with that other than I wish I had it. When are you gonna sell your Red Sea Crossing or your boxed Birthday Mania? Anyway, good luck with your sales.

  7. This guy has got be the one of the smartest Atari 2600 sellers in the world. Somehow he gets ultra rare or at least very rare games at a song and pimps them out here on AtariAge and E-bay and apparently even GameGavel. He has to be the shrewdest Atari seller there is, even better than Mcgrail and Philflound. I have nothing but praise for him to get every last dime possible for every single item he has. Even if he is lying about the E-bay bid, it is a great tactic to try to get a few more pennies for his product. I know this has been a sarcastic post, but I will say he does deliver on his product and it was exactly as stated. I paid way too much, but I wanted the game and he was the only game in town.

  8. Am I understanding this right?

Some guy used Ebay's system in an attempt to lowball an auction that didn't sell and make a side deal, without Ebay getting their cut. Now he's complaining about the "honor" of someone who relisted the item and sold it to the highest bidder, as per the rules they both agreed to follow in order to use Ebay's system?

That's a strange definition of "honor" there. Since when is it okay to rip off a corporation because you don't like the price they charge for their product? That's infantile. If you don't like the price, don't use the system at all. Halfway in skirting the system isn't exactly honorable, and frankly if I were the seller I'd be smelling "scam" all over it.

It's the same with piracy "we don't like their anti-piracy measures, so we'll steal their product to boycott it!" No. That's not a boycott. A boycott is a matter of principle, and it has to cost YOU something, show you are willing to make sacrifices to redress a grievance. I'm serious about what I said above. If I were the seller on ebay, the whole thing would start instantly smelling like a scam to me. Why is this person so intent on me not using Ebay to do this? Why is this person complaining that I re-listed my property and got a better offer than theirs?

Character and honor is what you do when you think you can get away with it. What was done here is this person tried to get away with shafting Ebay, and is angry that another person decided to just smile and humor them while continuing to do the right and honorable thing. It's not like this was a deal on the Atariage forums that the seller backed out of, this was a person who decided not to do the wrong thing, and then re-listed the item. More power to him for doing it the right way; he got the extra money he deserved for not trying to scam anyone.

Very well said. I've always hated Philflound and this gives me some needed juice to accelerate that burning.

Why do you hate Philflound? Do you feel he is a little shady in his dealings on E-bay, or his lack of answering direct questions from threads on this message board, or what?

  9. My wife, Daughter and I spent about a hour playing that in Vegas. It was the only time we ever saw it, so we tried to finish it , but we ran out of time. Congrats! Did you get a good deal?

Ha! My wife just told me where she saw a machine locally. We will be playing it soon.....

Have fun and good luck finishing it up Heads.

  10. can anybody give me a value on this please.

An absolute ZERO. It is all phony reenactments. Just like Operation Repo (you know, the one with the absolutely disgusting fat chick) Lizard lick Towing, Hardcore Pawn, basically every TRU TV show minus the televised court stuff. I fucking hate that I was duped at first to think these shows were actually real. I guess I was a sucker for their faux real T.V. If you do not believe me, search the internet and see that these piece of shit shows are reenactments of supposedly real events.

Read the title dude. I would say you are a countryfied dumbass. Meaning me.
