DT Kofoed replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club

The NEW High Score Club ~ Week 1 ~ Asteroids (Game 16: Diff. A)
DT Kofoed replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
First stab: 15,380 This was the first game I ever rolled (on an easier setting) so I'm looking forward to seeing how well I can do without reinforcements. Also, since I missed most of last season, I'm totally taking those "newbie" points! -
The NEW High Score Club 1.24 ~ No Escape
DT Kofoed replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
4186 I simply CANNOT get past those evil Kraken-Prawn thingies... I can get to them with full health, and the last fellow falls into a pattern I cannot break -
The NEW High Score Club 1.24 ~ No Escape
DT Kofoed replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
been away for too long... first go: 1996. Had thus in my collection for some time, but never gave it much play. Going to fix that oversight now! UPDATE: better score: 4040 anyone know what those things after the centaurs are supposed to be? -
Have you seen the new Atari 2600 Hot Wheels cars?
DT Kofoed replied to lanatrzczka's topic in Atari 2600
Weird, why didn't they use a car model from the same year as the game??? -
Love the blinking indicators.

Would it be a VCS game without flicker somewhere? Go all out with the logo, let it flicker a bit, that's all part of the charm!

I'm still willing to step in, as I've said before. (not that I currently have moderator access or whatnot)

look at my avatar photo...

1369... I've been having technical difficulties with my standard sticks and had to bust our the Slik Stik, not sure if that's beneficial or not, but clearly I've got some gaming to do thus week!

54,270. Slight improvement. I'm also using keyboard/mouse on this one, simply because I don't have any spare joysticks to risk on this mad game! Also, my son used to play with me here, but got discouraged by everyone else's awesomeness...

50,160... clearly not my game

I dream of a Xonox-style double-ender for Space Rocks and Frantic...

Wow. I do think this is THE best iteration of Asteroids I have ever played!
-
Very impressive work. However: I find the urge to recreate the original limiting. I think if you set yourself to creating original levels - using your own game 'engine' - rather than recreating the familiar ones from the original program, you can raise this from a technical demonstration into a truly great playing experience. Just a thought.. I'm still down with this!

Atari 2600 HSC Season 10, "IDEAS POLL"
DT Kofoed replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in 2600 High Score Club
I still like having the list of potential games posted beforehand for collecting motivation, and having a knock-out tourney concurrent but officially "on-the-side" of the HSC. Getting rid of the tips bonus seems justifiable, but having some sort of occasional bonus challenge is still exciting. -
Atari 2600 HSC Season 10, "IDEAS POLL"
DT Kofoed replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in 2600 High Score Club
I think ultimately you get to decide here, based on all our suggestions, how you want it to go. We've all said our piece, I think, and are awaiting official word! -
LOVE the new warp effect!

Atari 2600 HSC Season 10, "IDEAS POLL"
DT Kofoed replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in 2600 High Score Club
Regular HSC is great: I do agree with the tip bonuses, etc. * I think the biggest enhancement we've found from the Knock-out Tournament is posting the games to be played at the start of the season, for the benefit of those of you who only play on produced carts. I think a KO can accompany the HSC easily: interested players sign up at the start of the HSC, and are eliminated one per week as we go along playing the HSC season games. It doesn't have to have any effect on the HSC at all, just a side quest for the truly committed nerds. The HSC remains to pull any eliminated players back into the season. I'd be more than happy to moderate. I spend too much time on here anyways -
Enjoyed my break after the winter knock-out tourney, but now I'm rearing to get back on the joystick! Has Zero's "blessing" to Jacob for the 2600 HSC expired?

I hope you're still plugging away at this one. I just played the latest build, and had some thoughts: - First, I like the sprite work, and the general gameplay as a wrap-around endless shooter. The radar is nicely functional, as well. - Difficulty still seems to ramp up rather slowly. Without an obvious wave marker, it's hard to get a sense of progress. Perhaps it things picked up a little faster, I wouldn't mind. - It seems that everything I shoot gets me two points, but given the different meteoroid sprites, I'd like them to be worth different amounts, and I think the radioactive debris should also have a different point value. I especially think the little flaming ones should be worth the trouble to back up and blast for extra points. - I wasn't clear on the new "smartbombs:" are they automatically fired in certain situations, or did I miss something to launch them myself? - A title screen on the final build would be nice as well. Overall, I'm definitely digging this. Anything extra you can do for target variety, both in different sprites and point values, will add to my interest as a player.
