Atari 2600 Knockout Round 15: KABOOM!
DT Kofoed replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in 2600 High Score Club
1481... ooh, boy! I'm going to have to play this every day this week if I'm going to get the skills to stay in the tournament. No slacking for a change! -
Atari 2600 Knockout Round 14: ESCAPE FROM THE MINDMASTER
DT Kofoed replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in 2600 High Score Club
The Harmony bug is a documented issue. This picture represents my score of 444 from a quick B/B game. Sorry I've been out of it until today, but I've been a bit sick/busy this week, and my kids were nice enough to let me play three rounds this Easter afternoon to at least post a score. I'll try the tougher variations if I have time for another game, otherwise, I hope this is enough to keep me safe. I really love this game, and know I could rock a higher score if I'd been playing the whole time. -
Atari 2600 Knockout Round 13: LASER GATES
DT Kofoed replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in 2600 High Score Club
So, funny coincidence this week. I went to my local retro-game shop with a gift certificate my wife gave me for our anniversary, and as I was checking out, the guy showed me something the owner had just found: a cart of Rescue Terra 1, which hadn't been priced yet, let alone put out for sale. So I checked it was rarity 9, called the owner in the morning, ran in a bought the thing before work ($63, with a bit of water warping on the label). I then look into the story of Venture Vision and their one produced game, only to find that not only is it programmed by the same fellow who did Laser Gates, but Laser Gates was originally going to be the sequel to Rescue Terra 1, which he took with him to Imagic when Venture Vision folded. Weird week. -

Atari 2600 Knockout VOTE FOR FINAL ROUND!
DT Kofoed replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in 2600 High Score Club
Heheh, you can also pick the console you want to represent, if made it to the finals, choosing favorite ATARI model or the one you're playing on! If I made finals I'd choose the Vader 4 switch 2600. Represent! Someone has to do the ol' 4-woodie proud for me, as I'll be lucky to even match my 5th place finish from last season in this here KO Tourney. -

Four sounds good to me. But the medals should be named after VCS models... 4th place has to be the Jr. -

17,527. Never played this before, as this is one of the three Imagic titles I don't have the cartridge for. I expect my score will increase a lot before the week is through. Correction: I just found Moonsweeper in town today, so I'm only 2 titles away from a complete Imagic collection. Sadly, this one has eluded me so far. -
Atari 2600 Knockout Round 12: ASTROBLAST

Oof, a squeaker, for sure. My last good round was Rampage... I'm going to have to get back in my groove if I'm going to advance farther. At least the new game isn't a slide-n-shoot! -

Generally we work on the honor system, so we'll just have to pledge not to use this trick. I believe there is something in the general HSC rules about these situations, but it boils down to just trusting the players not to exploit any bugs in the program... it's not like there's any prize on the line worth cheating for. -

14580. Urg! Slide-and-shoot, that ubiquitous genre of classic gaming at which I suck the most, combined with the paddle variable of uncertainty. I like the concept here, much as I did with Solar Storm last season, I just hope I have the time to create a better result here. March is Girl Scout cookie season, and Cub Scout pinewood derby, as well as my anniversary, so well see what time I have this week... -

The VCS has paddles because Pong was controlled by paddles. Pong was en electronic version of Ping Pong/Table Tennis, which in the physical world is played with paddles. You know, those wooden, rubber coated mini-tennis-racket things. Thus, paddle-controllers, to control [the electronic versions of] paddles in [the electronic version of] a game of pong. Hope that helps. -
