Hopefully maybe someday. One of the two channels is used for the 3-channel waves which can be sine, saw, or square. The other channel is free for sound the TIA can make normally like notes, percussion, etc. The only way to made DPC+ music is assembly. Batari Basic DPC+ 1.1d kernel does not have 3-channel sound implemented. It is so simple an idea. All it is doing is changing just the audio channel's volume. You can make a sound in bB by setting AUDV0 = 8 drawscreen AUDV0 = 0 drawscreen. That will push out the speaker one the first drawscreen and pull it back on the second drawscreen. Since drawscreen happens 60 times a second NTSC, you get a 60Hz tone. The hard part is that to get different notes, you must update the volume register "each scan line." Remember you only get 76 cycles on each scan line while the screen is drawing. I think the updating even continues through the vertical horizontal blanks (not sure). Updating less than every scan line cause the sound to get worse. That's a start to wrap your head around. Does Chetiry use DPC+ music? You can also do that music technique in software like Stella Stocking does ( I could be wrong), and the Better Than Pitfall Demos are software (4-channel sound?) There is a great unannounced 2600 game I helped input the music data coming out this year with lots of DPC+ music!

I actually designed the Protector overlay and sent it to him to make some changes like a larger blue area for the score and better alignment with the radar. Those weren't changed at all, plus all displays have variation that make alignment hard. The play field and mountains are different colors than what I originally chose. I had green mountains and red aliens. (The problem with red is that inkjet red just isn't dark enough and the vectors are too pink.) I REALLY like the Y.A.S.I. (Yet Another Space Invaders) overlay he makes. I like it so much I haven't been able to put oldJD's dust cover on because I like looking at the overlai in the Vextrex every day!

The files in Post #1 are Joe Musashi's and are assembly. The file in Post #130 is my batari Basic demo. Also in my blog http://www.atariage.com/forums/blog/516/entry-9710-dk-2600-jumpman/ I am going to start a thread in 2600 - batari Basic forum to keep working on my version which has all 4 screens too, but I need to ask about additional memory for graphics, using the push pull stack variables, etc.

That is the programming challenge. There is so much going on at the top of D.K.'s red levels at the same time. I am compromising by choosing not to display the princess/lady until Jumpman is at the top ready to rescue her. That demo just happens to have her onscreen all the time. With my batari Basic demo I wanted to show some of what can be done, however I leaped way ahead doing what I am good at - sprites, animation, layout, sound - and have NOT done what I LOVE about the 2600. AWESOME GAMEPLAY. Gameplay should always come first. A great, challenging, frantic, pulse pounding, tension building gameplay with lots of replay desire far outweighs crude graphics. The mushrooms are rectangles, but the gameplay is great kind of thing.

I started to do just that. I have all the parts. Two hurdles in making a Vox 2. You need a programmed PIC chip (I don't have the code or know how to program a PIC), and you need to send the SpeakJet a character from a computer to change its baud rate. I suggest to wait a bit more if MOS has more boards and parts than there is probable demand. I know how you feel, I need one for my Vectrex & haven't found any.

Early adopters get one of these, right? It is on eBay for "Atari 2600 Starplex Joystick Custom Paint Asteroids Design Boxed" for $125.00, an insane amount of money. Great idea, though. The BEST WAY to play Space Rocks!

My boxed Halo 2600 arrived today! I've played the binary on the Harmony Cart, but seeing it for sale with the box made me "pop" on buying it. I don't really collect boxes, but for some reason I wanted this more because it came in a box. I also got 7800 Moon Cresta in the box and I already had the Cartridge from Bob (but it was the one with the level 70-something bug which I'll never get to), so I went ahead and got the Atari Age store updated binary with box. It's some kind of spell or something... or hoarding... I am trying to make my own box for some games. Fist try is turning out well. Need a box for 2600 Sinistar! I just wish I could afford the shipping from Germany, one member here make great boxes.

That is a Sunnyvale Light Sixer. The paddles don't have the fuji Atari logo on them (so not H6 paddles). I can not see if the joysticks say TOP at the top.
-
You mean without box? There is! http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=998 If you mean without instructions / magnet, then probably not...

Quick question Re: Star Castle Do we need 2 builds, one for Stella and one for Harmony because Stella reports FA2* and is that a new bank switch type? The 29K build runs in Stella and reports FA2* . FA2 (padded to 1024) at the beginning appended to a padded .bin to 32,768 that runs on Harmony will not run in Stella.

Anyone collect Atari 2600 label variations?
iesposta replied to riffraff's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I have three Yar's Revenge: regular, Sears and red label. And Parker Bros Q*bert and red label Atari Q*bert. That's enough to satisfy my collecting needs, though I would like a Pole Positn -
I thought I could change your mind Really, Thomas Jentzch said what I was trying to say and what you were saying about the ghosts. Flicker is bad when done bad. When done right, it extends the capabilities of the 2600. Heavy flicker is tolerable for short periods like say a row of objects that you would pick up right away reducing the flicker as the items are picked up would be ok with me. And I think a game redone like Wizard Of Wor where there are so many enemies that they must flicker pretty badly, just having great gameplay makes the annoyance of flickering worth it, plus it flickers less and less the more the enemies are taken out.
-
I completely disagree. Here is my example of the EVERYTHING flickering EXCEPT the Jumpman sprite. JumpmanELe20121108.bas.bin The playfield, kong, lady, ball all 30Hz flicker. Plus since everything is done twice, I get 2 balls and 4 missiles. One ball is the elevator blue line, the other ball is the elevator red line. First you say you don't mind sprite flicker, then you say pacman VCS 15Hz sprite flicker is seizure-inducing. Which is it?

For Trade: mint boxed promotional 2600 console [CX2600A]
iesposta replied to glazball's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
That 2600 is quite special, and worth top dollar! I have a 6 switch Sunnyvale light (and didn't know they existed. I thought just the Heavy Sixers were made in Synnyvale, CA) and it too has the yellow paint, but not chrome switches. Chrome switches were used rarely for store units as yours says promotional use, and sometime on units sent back for repair. The fact that it is in the box and new or slightly used and made in the USA, puts it at the top of the 4 switchers in my book. I'd love to own it, but have neither the funds nor the games you seek. Plus I have 8 machines to play 2600 carts, and emulators on the computer and iPad. I can't put a price / value on it. I'm sure others here have more info on what chrome switch promo units are worth. -
Small update. Original port person on forum replied Feb 15, 2013 about the demo's initialisation code. So maybe work on this continues? I was a douchebag and asked for news, progress. Original port person is in China and may not understand much English, but I wanted to express my desire for this, so I asked. I don't want to play Angry Birds on anything BUT Sega Genesis! ( And I haven't ever played it on anything but Sega Genesis! )

DASM shouldn't cause the issues here. The newer subversion will cause compile errors, so if you can compile a bin DASM is ok. When I see "it should work" and code with temp my first thought is "don't use temp"
-
Somebody said, "Don't use temp, it can't be trusted." Try it with fixed variables. Unrelated: Also, did you see my post about using an older DASM from 2003, or are you using the latest? Which are you using?

I think I've read "needs to be filed down" or people have just soldered that end directly to the circuit board. If it is quite poor, like my 7800s were, going with an A/V mod seemed the best choice for me. My two Heavy Sixers are so clear and colourful over RF I don't need to do anything, except replaced one bad cable with a new original 12 foot cable from Best electronics in California.

blank scanlines in between playfield plots in surround.
iesposta replied to tschak909's topic in Atari 2600
Thank you for this! When showing my nephew (age 12) the 2600 and a great game like Toyshop Trouble, he finds Surround and we played again and again. Now I have a new version to show! -
Naphtha (Zippo lighter fluid). Dissolves paint and adhesive. Evaporates completely. Leaves no residue. Highly flammable, it's lighter fluid! You said extreme circumstances. Good for removing labels. You have to reapply and wipe a few times because glue residue remains. They pour it on rare stamps to check the paper, it really completely evaporates.

I only have ever used bB DPC+ kernel, and I haven't used it enough to answer your question. I think I remember reading there is some way to see what collided with sprites 2-5. One of the last things added was a way to color the missile differently when it is not horizontal with its player. It only seem to work for me when the missile was below the player, above was black. Also defining a range of players to the same data was added. Scrolling was going to be the next thing, but seemed to have stopped development about a year ago. Some very impressive games can be done with the DPC+ bB tools we have now, but so far only a few have been completed.

Where do I buy Rollerball pinball?
-
Star Castle, Polar Rescue, and Pole Position were the last of the games to be released for the Vectrex, and we're only released in the U.S. (also the 3D Imager). The labels have 1983 on them while the rest are 1982. Last year I bought a boxed Star Castle locally from someone selling an entire collection for $50.00. He wanted $100.00 for Pole Position, and $100.00 for Polar Rescue (I have Polar Rescue). I think those are fair current prices. Anything less you have a great deal, anything more and you've paid too much.

For Trade: mint boxed promotional 2600 console [CX2600A]
iesposta replied to glazball's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Does it have smooth chrome switches, or common ribbed aluminium switches? A better picture, and one of the bottom sticker could make it more valuable as in if it is a 4 switch from Sunnyvale, CA and not an import. If they are smooth chrome, I believe that is rare and you could get a lot more, I just don't know how rare. -
Many people have started and stopped projects for some people disappearing with others money some people just giving up on the hobby. You will always be welcome here. Anyone that can't forgive should just be ignored. In the end it's just a hobby. And with the classic system like 2600 there's only so many people a few hundred or so active at any particular time. Having fun with these classic systems is my midlife crisis and I'll continue to have fun and be amazed about what can be pushed out of such an ancient system!
