  1. Are you planning to use the difficulty switches? Can the magnetic mines be turned off to keep the game play truer to the original arcade Asteroids?
  2. Having done both, because RF signal was so terrible, I'm happy with both. The expensive "Longhorn" should still be available from LittleJoe and has S-Video and composite (but I haven't hooked up the composite to a connector), Free plug: http://www.electronicsentimentalities.com/Assembled%20Mods.html and the Transistor mod I did for free (with scrap electronics I have around). That composite picture is so much better than RF, but not as clean as S-Video. Then there is the issue of many bad reports of "Lomghorn" mods. I had mine in a last run Serial X... model, then when I bought some Homebrews that didn't run, I got an older Serial A1... model. Works the same in both. The same transistor was used in the S-Video mod of a Sega Genesis model 1, and also an S-Video mod to its 32X add on. There are at least four of these transistors in an Atari XM301 modem. Resistors of 100 ohms and smaller are used for these mods. PS It's the 7800 sound that is confusing, because you have to get what comes out of the TIA and what comes out of POKEY (if one is fed thru the cartridge port).
  3. What's the deal? The deal is that there are two versions of Star Castle. A Kickstarter funded ended project of Star Castle by solidcorp programmed in 8K, no longer available new. A homebrew AtariAge project that's 32K by CD-W with title screen, music, and high score table (rom available, limited carts made for a gaming expo), and work continuing on it from Thomas Jentzsch for later cartridge release in the AtariAge Store. Quoting CD-W "I'd just like to point out that "my" version is actually a team effort: Nathan Strum produced the awesome sprites and artwork and spent a lot of time play testing the code. David Dries and Nathan are working on the label and manual for the game. Ivan Machado produced the awesome arcade style sound effects. Richard 'Kulor' Armijo produced the cool title tune. Fred Quimby helped with the ARM code to make the game work on the Harmony cart. Thomas Jentzsch is currently optimising and extending the code to make it an even closer match to the arcade version. Stephen Anthony extended Stella to support the Star Castle bank switching scheme. All these people freely gave their time to make my version as good as it could be (apologies if I've left anyone else out!). Chris Edited by cd-w, Thu May 3, 2012 5:30 PM."

  5. I just hope you make everyone aware that the pre-ordering of the reproduction cartridge is actually ordering it and paying $60, and that you are asking for pre-orders of $35-$45 more to be paid later for a box which is not a reproduction box because as far as we know it did not come in a box, and a made up manual because no manual has been found and it may not have had a manual. I want you to make as much money back as you can, but people saying I'd like a box and a manual is different than them saying I'll pay $35-$45 more for a box and manual.
  6. I paid $100 for solidcorp's Star Castle with custom cart, custom board with LED's CD-ROM, box and manual. I paid $77 for Boulder Dash with cart, box, manual, poster, buttons and more. I will not pay $105 for a repro cart, box and manual. It was a cart only release. And $60 was pushing my limit.
  7. Wow thanks for the idea! I have an Apollo cart of infiltrate that doesn't have its top label.
  8. Can any part of the 'hit rock' sound be changed for the three types, sm, med, lg? Looking at source shows sound data for each size. Hmmm... Maybe it is too late at night and I'm not hearing or recalling right... Other suggestions are maybe change the duration echo, longer for lg; shorter for sm, or 3 different volumes... Does the game logic even know if a sm, med or lg has been hit? If no, please disregard this suggestion. There is no sound in space, so for maximum realism, turn the sound all the way down during a game! All looks good. Played Multi color vector, white vector, white solid, then orange. Orange is very Halloween with all the black and orange. I recommend at least one orange game play for September/October. P.S. You do an awful lot of work for not being able to do any work this week!!!
  9. I know SpiceWare isn't (and shouldn't) be too concerned about it running in emulation. He is programming for the real hardware. It is recommended that Stella 3.7.1 or later be used. For information purposes: I find it runs just fine on Stella 3.6.1. It has the solid medium rock problem, but if you virtually hit the Reset button, it fixes the solid rock problem and all rocks and ships are vectors.
  10. Thank you for your post. I laughed out loud, and I really needed a good laugh! Red Sea Crossing, for sure! We have a thread winner, everybody! Atari 2600 Sinistar is the rarest game I own, but that doesn't count because it is an unreleased prototype that I had made into a cart for me.
  11. Where did I buy mine from? Amazon.com It was $26.99 and $7.95 shipping for a total of $34.94.
  12. Hyperlink in the first post, then contact link. Her e-mail is: [email protected] It is not actually placing an order, as letting her know how many and which one(s) you are interested in, so pass the info along and with enough demand they will be made!
  13. Can the heartbeat sound be faster near the end of the round? A LOT faster? Sorry this must be a demand, not a suggestion. It is too laid back... not enough tension when slow. Liked your video! ...no southern drawl on planet Houston? As always, it is great and I'll like it either way. Thanks for all the fun builds you release!
  14. I placed my order. I had seen these before, but I didn't know they were not stickers. The fact that they are removable and not sticky sold me.
  15. One 7800 fits fine, other one is tight. Plays fine. Shell is imperfectly uniquely awesome!
  16. Anyone else get their copy in the mail? What number did you get bennybingo? I like the light show even more than I thought I would. Here is mine in my modded to the max 2600A:
  17. I bought this... happy with it overall. I own a coin op Mappy, that was $400. This comes with Mappy and was $34.95 (probably less when in stores, discounted!) It hasn't been mentioned, but Dig Dug scrolls vertically a bit when near the top or the bottom of the screen. Quite shocking at first. RJ: I haven't played Xevious in MAME for a long while, but it is exactly how I remember the arcade coin op, if that helps.
  18. My boxed cartridge Star Castle arrived today! It is number 20. I thought I was 13, but I guess the higher pledges were numbered first. Opened the shrink wrap and admired the finished cart. It's so unique, with the custom clear shell, clear end label, custom printed circuit board with two white LEDs and Star Castle in only 8K. Completely happy with all of it! Didn't get to play it yet. Forgot to check for the instructions. Came along with the CD containing the program and source code, etc. Only thing I didn't like was it doesn't have 2600 on it. I can understand removing all Atari and symbols, but it should say "For the 2600." Wasn't it ruled you couldn't trademark or copyright a number? Edit: It does have "Star Castle 2600"... on the circuit board visible through the back cart window! AtariBrian, mine was the $100 pledge. Irregardless of all the "discussion" around this project, I chose to support it, and had a part of it coming to market with my suggestion that since this version wasn't likely to be sold, that someone else remake Star Castle, which appeared quite quickly as a ring demo, then a full-blown 32K game, then this version went to Kickstarter.
  19. I have one like this. No box. From right to left is cart, joystick, joystick, paddle, paddle, then just up is a hole that fits the power supply, but then the console doesn't sit flat. What am I doing wrong? Also disappointed this case doesn't fit a Heavy Sixer.
  20. Just noticed the smalls have 2 different shapes!
  21. Pengo Wow, I didn't know it was that rare! ...got it just because I like Pengo. Thanks to the AtariAge member that sold it to me.
  22. I spy... You changed START to red! Thumbs up! RGB RGB RGB RGB I love red green blue together (and I love flicker - wonderful games like Space Rocks and Frantic are possible with flicker). <gotta also love ranting in the morning>
