    Star Castle RC1

I just tried it on a 2nd 14 inch television. Should have tested on 2 sets before makiing suggestions! It's not as washed out, and the darker colors are too dark. Settle in the middle? (Unless anyone else gives their opinion.) One thing I did change and liked on both sets: TextCols0 to NTSC $88 (Darker makes it look more like vectors with the "B" frame dots showing more - I don't really see the B-frame dots with the bright blue.)

For the color changes (they've grown on me), how about a progression? It starts out Red Orange Yellow. $46, $26, $16 How about next Orange Yellow Green, $26, $16, $C6 Yellow Green Blue, $16, $C6, $A6 Green Blue Violet $C6, $A6, $66 ?
  4. I would like to put Yar's Revenge in a six switch. Is the only requirement to disable the built-in ROM grounding of cartridge pin 12? Does something else have to be added because Yar's is a 4K ROM? I look forward to your future projects.
  5. http://www.best-electronics-ca.com I ordered mine here when picking up a bunch of other things I needed. No online store however you've got to contact them through email.
  6. What is that black circle? Is it a pause switch? My Sean Kelly cart is © 1999, and has a label like yours, but no holes or switches. Birds of prey came out in 1999 so I doubt that it's on your cartridge. I don't remember it being on my cartridge. I bought the cartridge with birds of prey from John D. (One of my top five favorite games by the way.)
  7. Get one rmaerz!!! I just got one today, and the action is better than I expected! It has buttons with a light spring that you can tap very quickly. I will always compare it to the action of a regular arcade button, and it is quite close! Picture attached. P.S. If you want one cheap, and without woodgrain sticker (black): https://www.atari2600.com/item--Deluxe-Videogame-Controller--ATA26CON0194.html
  8. On my four switch, the joystick connector pin was cracked between outside pin and the inside solder connection. I couldn't really see it until I desoldered the connector. All the pins were visible from the outside, but one paddle controller wouldn't work. It sounds like you have the same problem.
  9. Having thoroughly enjoyed "A Very 2600 Christmas" in 2011, I was hoping to contribute some holiday music for 2012. Since "A Very 2600 Christmas" was 100 percent TIA music and sounds, I wondered what could be done with the DPC+ 3 channel music. (I couldn't find any "Better Than Pitfall" code to try 4 channel music.) I've got "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" done. Half of "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" done. I'm not a programmer. I'm just typing in music code from the already released DPC plus demo. If anyone has any information about a holiday cartridge for 2012 let me know. Run demo on 2600, press select for the 2nd demo (music). 00-DPCWeWish.zip

  14. I was thinking you would have to turn your display sideways because an invader is 8 pixels HIGH, but 11 pixels in LENGTH.

  16. Good question! I just checked mine. The old 1977 gray Atari 2600 adapter was 15.8V and a newer four switch adapter was 13.8V. You're right in the middle!
  17. SD cards can be read by Mac, either in a reader or from a digital camera. They mount on the desktop like a hard drive. Then you just drag folders of zips or bins. I use the same card in my harmony and my camera.
  18. Recommend: Harmony Cartridge! Seriously, you can try a game and collect it if you love it. I have tried, then bought: Medieval Mayhem H, Defender Arcade H, extremely hard to play Millipede R2? and Jr. PAC Man R2?, Lady Bug H, Stargate (same as Defender II), etc.
  19. I would say the FB2+ model would be the best one for the cart modification. Aren't there like three board versions of the FB2 - A, B & C? Instead of soldering to pad 20, you just solder to a pin. Tin all the pads and wires. This takes longer, but there is less chance of damage because you can solder very quickly and it won't overheat or lift traces. I actually used old hard drive connector cable, but I didn't solder to the cartridge port pins. I just used two of the black plastic connectors. The connector cables usually have two black connectors and a gray connector. And there is enough wire to run from the circuit board to the cartridge port. One side fits right on to the cartridge pins from 1 to 12, and another one back to back for pins 13 through 24. Every other wire is connected to the pins. I guess connectors could come loose, but it works for me. Another good tip is to temporarily secure the circuit board with the difficultly switches to the main circuit board with clips. The gray wires will break if stressed too much-- it happened to me (and WongoJack I believe.)
  20. I think anyone who finds out that the VCS was to have stereo speakers, they would like to see one. But then you have to lift pins to get the left / right signal, which means no sound through the tv. Then you have to build an amplifier or find one that will run in the VCS with 5 volts and not draw too much current from the VCS. And I still couldn't see modifying a Heavy Sixer. Hearing Yars' Revenge in my 4-switch 2600A Longhorn mod thru the entertainment system with a good sub-woofer blows away any built-in speaker! That's some amazing vibrations!
