  1. I think I spotted one. Check out the last picture in this auction: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 170803344247 Opening bid was quite high, do ya think they know what they have? Sorry, fixed link...
  2. I only have the 6 games listed in my original post, and The XM ordered. "EP" - these were the original 5000 made in El Paso Texas in mid 1984. "AT84" - early batch still with Atari Inc. "AT85" - early batch now with Atari Corp "A1" - initial models still had the expansion interface "A1" - later models lost the expansion interface "A3" - next run of the 7800 units "X" - final run of 7800 units? -My serial number is an X so that must be why some home-brews don't work!!!! I'll be looking to get an A1... Will the XM use its memory? That might help.
  3. Very nice! I've taken pictures of purple flowers and they always come out blue. I think the ultraviolet filter goes too far into the visible. That's where I put my s-video. Soldered and epoxied it. My audio is off to the side. No composite. Does your audio go to left & right mono, or just one side?
  4. Thank you for the suggestion. No change.
  5. Yes. Always the same places. And animated too like Yars' Revenge.
  6. Any guesses on why my 7800 displays Beef Drop VE like below? Adding Longhorns video board by LittleJoe showed no change except a much clearer picture. Scramble doesn't work at all. Could it be RAM corruption ( bad RAM )? Electrolytic caps? I'm out of ideas. Moon Cresta works 100% Everything else is fine. Removed cap and Robot Tank and Supercharger work! Recapped power supply, and checked voltage regulator - ok. Ballblazer is ok. Food Fight is ok. Pole Position II is ok. All 2600 operation is ok. Cart port sanded & cleaned and resoldered. Thanks for any suggestions.
  7. My Scramble cart doesn't work on my 7800. GraphIc glitch Atari logo, then black. Any suggestions? Help! Beef Drop VE works, but with graphic glitches. Moon Cresta runs perfect!
  8. atari2atari, I finished wiring my mod. The 7800 output S-video is beautiful and rich. Noticed some diagonals on Ballblazer with the brown start screen. Did you REMOVE Q1!?? That could kill your video output. You are supposed to cut the base (center) lead. I did this and noticed no difference, but when I was wiggling around Q1 the video went out. Also Q8 is on a PAL board or maybe a different version board. (near the tall red tube coil). I'm quite sure IT IS Q1 and again, just cut the center lead, don't remove it. I'm so frustrated that home-brews Beef Drop VE 7800 still has graphic horizontal banding dropout glitches, same before and after this mod, and Scramble doesn't work at all, after a scrambled (ha ha) Atari 7800 boot screen. I never tried it before I modded this system, so I don't know if it worked stock. Home brew Moon Cresta works just fine, go figure... Now the 2600 is disappointing. Still better than RF, but not rich like a Heavy Sixer. Very washed out. There is also slight vertical banding, unlike longhorn's 2600 mod board. If things don't improve with a cart socket cleaning and with the use of the XM when it arrives, I'll have to get another one to mod or just sell all of it off.
  9. Shameless bump. Seriously, click the link and it gives this website money!
  10. I love how relativly easy it is to take the switches apart, clean the contacts and reassemble without soldering. Only the spring loaded select and reset are hard, but not impossible!
  11. Would it be easier to invert the radar? The solid / blinking? My eyes go to the solid dots, when I need to get every blinking dot. Try it if it makes the program simpler. If it uses more resources, please disregard this suggestion. Since you've made it wrap, I won't suggest Paddle support. That would have been cool zipping from one side to the other! Nice game! Original! Horizontal scrolling too!
  12. So, in other words, they're super rare.
  13. Can someone post pictures of chrome heavy Sixer switches? Do they tarnish more or less than aluminum? My heavy Sixer in use has 4 tarnished switches and shiny game select and game reset. So chrome is a silvery gray, and aluminum is a silvery grey?
  14. I meant the 7800 motherboard and the empty socket, not parts on the mod board. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
  15. Just guessing here, but since the motherboard is double sided and the removed chip should have holes that are plated through to both side of the motherboard, maybe it's not 100% soldered to the circuit (top) side. That may explain moving the board to get video / no video. Removing that chip is potentially damaging and I would check those pin connections in the new socket ( both top and bottom ) visually first. I don't know enough to know if a continuity checker would hurt any chips or not. I have flowed solder to the top by heating the top (under) side of the socket and applying solder just to be a bit more sure that contact is made with the new socket. I could have caused damage, but it's not finished so I don't know yet. I just started my 7800 mod, and didn't get to finish it. The socket is in, resistors removed, 4 wires attached so far. I installed the Longhorn mod from LittleJoe in my 2600a 4 switch no problem, but this 7800 is a little bit harder due to desoldering / removing parts.
  16. I started my 7800 Longhorn mod from LittleJoe electronicsentimentalities today Tue., May 6, 2012. This is the first I've heard about this problem. Sorry to hear your board went. I'll let you know how mine turns out. I'll have to look up the resistor values that were removed. Maybe you can use one of those? Anything will be an improvement. Compared to all the other ways I have to play 2600, this has the worst output and sound! And yes I adjusted the sound coil and the RF adjustment. I didn't touch those pots that are glued in place though.
  17. Attention collectors and gamers: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 150772341345 Is income tax return time a good time to post this? Or maybe around the holidays? -Michael
  18. Thanks for explaining. It makes me appreciate the Flashback 2 even more. There's a perfect little Atari 2600 in there! I just assumed they got the A12 line wrong, and couldn't see how an unsupported game was running.
  19. On my Flashback 2+ the built-in Millipede works, so why doesn't the actual cart or Millipede on the Harmony? I just finished up a cart mod and observed this issue. Seems it's known why some cartridges (and Supercharger games) don't work, but how can the same built-in game work fine?
  20. Problem is, where's the other $30,803.78 going to come from? I wasn't referring to buying solidcorp's Star Castle, just showing that someone made some profit on a home brew game.
  21. Going slightly off topic, it IS possible to make some money off of this programming hobby if you wanted to do so. Take, for instance the REMAKE OF THE 1979 CINEMATRONICS SLEEPER HIT Sundance or Stardance for the Vectrex. Read the review in the new issue of Retrocade magazine. There are three working machines known. Never gave it much interest, but I'm about all things Vectrex and I still haven't bought this $30 game. In January and February the author auctioned three of three "Box Sets" of Sundance in three auctions for a total of $1,196.22 That is a pretty nice return! Also note that the game isn't as beloved as Star Castle. [Edit] My math was wrong...
