This is an amazing selection of games.

    -Rebooteroids

    -Tempest 2000

    -Downfall

    3 of the funnest games!!!

Plus the rest are all winners.

I have not ever played Breakout 2000(yeah, i know....pretty sad). I was disappointed that it did not have rotary controls so I never played it. Looking forward to it.

    Great job voting guys!

Personally I like Impulse X better and it does have rotary support. I am happy to play Breakout 2000 though.

Yeah this is great, the levels look like Doom II levels.

However, is it really the Doom I engine in the bottom, because there should be a different shotgun in Doom II?

Yes it's the Jagdoom engine. The levels were modified to use only assets provided by Jagdoom and then the wad was substituted into a Jagdoom build. Adding the super shotgun requires modifying the game engine to support it. That has now been done in the Slayer Edition development. Hopefully we will get a Doom 2 port utilizing this modified engine in the future.

  3. I have been looking for these two roms as well. I scoured every computer in my house trying to find them because I'm certain I have them somewhere. Online links are currently dead as far as I can tell.

What he means is, that you can activate them too easily.

In Wolfenstein you save by pressing 1,2 or 3 on the keypad. I once overwritten a save of mine by accident because of that.

The cheat code in Doom is activated by a combination option + a number or something like that. Guess he wanted a more complicated way to activate the cheats.

I see what you are saying. I do think I activated a Doom cheat by accident once or twice over the years. When I intend to activate them I appreciate that they aren't difficult to activate. I would consider the save game issue to be more notable than the cheat issue. Hitting 1-3 by accident is a lot more likely than pushing multiple buttons on the keypad at the same time.

The save game is too easy in Wolfenstein 3D

The cheats are too easy in Doom

I don't really understand these two points. The first one I actually don't comprehend. What does he mean save game is too easy? Does he mean that the save is too lenient in that it allows you to fail and pickup without losing much progress? I wonder what he would think about modern video games. Then he says Doom cheats are too easy... Doom... cheats... are too easy. Ok first that's not on Atari. The cheats included in the Jaguar version of the game are the same cheats included in the original version of Doom. Second... they are cheats! If you activate them then by definition you want to ditch the difficulty and just have fun! Once you activate cheats all bets are off on challenging gameplay. What strange things to consider bugs or errors.

  6. At this point selling on eBay makes me too anxious. It's too easy for the buyer to scam or screw over the seller. The eBay buyer guarantee pretty much ensures that a buyer will be on the winning end of any dispute. They can take your quality item and return busted crap for a refund. There's pretty much nothing you can do about it. I still buy on eBay and my experience as a buyer is almost completely positive. As a seller I have been burned a few times.

$500 for a JagCD is a guaranteed quick sell. Someone here is going to snatch that up immediately.

  7. I'm blown away by how many times people have to insert carts to get them to work. I have currenlty three different functional Jag systems, every retail cart, and numerous homebrews. I insert a cart and play. For me the Jaguar has been one of the most reliable cartridge systems I have ever owned. I thought this was the typical experience with the Jaguar. What I know is not typical is that my JagCD, which I've had for about 20 years, plays CDs with zero issues. The only issue I have with the JagCD is sometimes I do have to reinsert a cartridge on that. Instead of loading the cart it will flash the "No disc" symbol. It doesn't happen that much but every now and then it does especially if I haven't played the system in a while.

  8. Well scratch this I guess. Sony is removing the communities. It's already gone in the current PS4 beta update. I've always had both the Sony and Microsoft consoles and in general I feel less connected to people on the Sony console. Oh well.

  9. It is widely regarded as the best title in the series. I started with Silent Hill 1 on the original PS1 in 1999 and the game blew my mind. I was super hyped for Silent Hill 2 and I got it as soon as I bought an Xbox. I finished the game in one sitting and it was better than I could have imagined. I've played it many times since then and I still enjoy it each time. I will always have a soft spot for the first game but it's hard to deny that they improved on every aspect, especially the story, in the second game. If I were to give the first game an edge on anything I would probably say the "other world" was creepier. Silent Hill 3 took the crown on that though.

Never played the 3do version, but based on this comparison video the jag seems to be the best version out there (with the 3do almost on par tbh):

I'm not sure what cables they were using for that video but Wolf 3D looks way cleaner than that on my Jag using S-Video.

  11. We have an AtariAge club on the Xbox One/Series platform which has quite a few AtariAge members in it. I got a PS4 Pro a few months ago and noticed there was no AtariAge community there. I have created one and invited a couple AtariAge members that are on my friends list. Unfortunately we don't have as large a list of PSN handles as we do for XBL so I only have a couple on my friends list. Search for the AtariAge community and join up to connect with other AtariAgers. Hopefully the communities will become available on the PS5 soon. I hope to see you guys online!

Well after playing a few times today my "demo mode" went screwy again. I wonder if resetting say 3 times in a row would help clear it out more.

At any rate the game functions fine and saves work again so going to leave it well alone until I've beaten my current game!

Doom and Wolf3d run demos in engine. If the game's constants, math, and random number generation are not all producing expected results the demos will desync. On the Odamex (doom source port) development team we use demo checksums for regression testing. If demos desync we know we screwed something up. If your game's demos are desyncing (which does result in things like running into walls, failing to open doors, shooting at walls, dying prematurely, etc.) the game is not running right. While it is most obvious in demos it is also happening while you are playing. How that will manifest can vary from your character or enemies moving at incorrect speeds to the game crashing. Maybe you will never notice or maybe it will ruin the game for you at some point.

How is World Tour Racing in comparison to Super Burnout in steering at controls?

I consider WTR to be one of the three good racing games on the Jaguar along with Super Burnout and Power Drive Rally. World Tour Racing doesn't have the tight controls of Super Burnout but it has much better controls than Checkered Flag. It also doesn't have the excellent framerate of Super Burnout. It's pretty cool to have the in-car perspective if desired and it looks pretty good. I like it. It's not worth getting a CD unit for at today's prices but it was a good reason to get one back in the day.

If I had to sort the racing games from best to worst I would go with

    1. Super Burnout
    2. Power Drive Rally
    3. World Tour Racing
    4. Atari Karts
    5. Club Drive
    6. Checkered Flag
    7. Supercross 3D

If you throw Checkered Flag with the improved control patch in the mix I would probably place it 4th but there is quite a distance between the quality of the 4th place and 3rd place in this list. The top 3 are good games. Checkered Flag had potential and elements that I really liked back then but spending any amount of time trying to seriously play the game is just frustrating. The patch makes it at least somewhat playable so the better elements can be appreciated. Include ST ports and this list would change significantly as well.

Supercross 3D is irredeemable. Biggest disappointment I ever had buying a new Jag game. I had been looking forward to it so much and within minutes of popping it in I was done with it.
