  1. Yes Microsoft made a $1.15bn mistake that significantly damaged their brand intentionally.
  2. From the sounds of it I should stick to the Jag version for my console fill and Typhoon 2001 when I want to play on PC.
  3. I enjoyed FRU and played it to completion.
  4. I definitely play more BC games than Xbox One games. You can look at my profile and see that. I have played some games that are not compatible with Xbox One. My 360 still works great. A lot of BC games play better on Xbox One though. I am really enjoying some of the Xbox One X enhanced BC games. It's awesome that Microsoft decided to do that.
  5. When I want to scratch the WoW itch I play a private Blizzlike Wrath of the Lich King server. I played WoW from vanilla up to that expansion and I wasn't interested in continuing after that. I spent more money playing WoW over the years than I care to imagine.
  6. That article is at least four years old. Yet here we are. Breath of the Wild was widely seen as Game of the Year last year with Super Mario Odyssey following closely behind. God of War is a contender to be Game of the Year for 2018. Rumors of single player gaming's death seem to be greatly exaggerated.
  7. I really don't think they have a choice but to do it this way. Due to the way the emulation works and Xbox One's use of UWP they have to repackage these games. The original contract wording likely makes it impossible for MS to do this without getting permission from the rights holders for every game they make compatible. I'm happy they are doing it at all and I think the quality is phenomenal. It started with some really rough edges but they have this down to a science now. I'm also glad that they are still delivering fantastic performance on the original Xbox One so that, at the very least, you get an identical experience (though often framerate is improved) to what you would have gotten on original hardware. Those that desire better visuals and performance have the option of stepping up to the Xbox One X. I think MS got this absolutely right. Unfortunately there are not many other reasons to get the Xbox One over a PS4 right now. MS needs to do something about their exclusivity drought.
  8. I ordered one from the Nintendo store on Feb. 1. Im glad I pulled the trigger on that when I did!
  9. This post would make for a good review. You can submit it on the game's product page: https://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1109
  10. Most of the computer geeks and/or fellow programmers I know also run Linux. I do have some gamer friends that run Windows but they live on the other side of town. Between work, my kids, and my wife recovering from surgery that is just too much effort. I'm sure others will try the game and report any problems they find. My OS preferences are getting to be a little off topic for this thread.
  11. I prefer Linux (Gentoo) as my main OS and I also have a Mac for porting software to that platform and for maintaining the Mac release of Odamex. I've been using Linux for over 18 years. It is the OS I am most comfortable with. I have no need for Windows. I build my own PCs and I never purchase an OS since I know I'm going to install Linux anyway. So no I don't have one. The last computer I purchased that had Windows pre-installed was a laptop that came with Vista. I wiped that out and replaced it with a Linux distro as soon as I got it home.
  12. Well they would dispute that characterization. WINE stands for (WINE Is Not an Emulator). They call it a compatibility layer or a combination of a re-implementation of Windows API and translation layers. When all is said and done it is essentially a Windows emulator. It is a great piece of software when it works. It can run a lot of games amazingly well. It probably would run your game. Still you are offering me a free copy to evaluate the quality of the game and stability of the code. Wine throws a big unknown in the mix and invalidates any findings so it would not be right for me to accept a free copy for that purpose.
  13. No there is no Windows compatibility mode in Linux. There is an application called wine which can run Windows applications but it is far from perfect. If the game actually can run in wine (many can not) it would not be fair to evaluate your game against a massive compatibility layer. I would have no way to know if any issues I discover are a problem with the game or a problem with wine.
  14. If you release a Linux version I will be happy to take you up on your offer. I don't keep a Windows PC around.
  15. I'm not passing judgement on your game. I'm passing judgement on your process which is the main reason the Jaguar version was released in the state it was. It could have been good but you didn't know what you were doing and you released a broken game. Wow. That is a bold claim! As a senior software developer and software lead I have never, and will never, release a piece of software and claim it is perfect. Not because I'm not good. I am good. Good enough to know better.
  16. Dec. 10: I have the groundwork for the VR Mode (brand new code) Dec. 13: The whole thing is finished! Order now! It's good to see that lessons were learned from the Jaguar release.
  17. Try OBS Studio. I use it on Linux and it's great. The Windows version should be just as good.
  18. Some will consider it worth it to have a proper portable version of the game.
  19. Nah... I'll stick with the original BF2. My son and I still have a blast with it.
  20. I play with my son on PS3 and it is one of the more active games still. You really should get the legendary edition though. It tends to be pretty cheap. It goes on sale a lot. Im going to say that it is almost required.
  21. No it has an internal power supply. They really designed the heck out of the thing.
  22. That largely depends on the cable length. A short enough cable will probably handle 4k content even if it is not "high speed". After a certain length the "high speed" cable becomes a necessity.
  23. Does your receiver have optical (S/PDIF) input? You can use HDMI for video and optical to your receiver for surround sound.
  24. I play my games on a projector and good 4k projector's haven't dropped to a reasonable price range yet. I think things are going to change for the better in the next year or two. In the meantime I intend to stick with my original Xbox One. It's working just fine.
