I'm not sure the vanilla WoW servers will be successful. Anyone that wants to play vanilla are already playing vanilla and they are doing so for free. It's going to be hard to convince people to pay a monthly fee for it. I wonder if we will see Blizzard shutting these private servers down so that they are the only option. Personally I enjoyed the game the most during the TBC or WotLK expansions so I play on a private WotLK server. The way I look at it I bought the base game and each expansion up to that point. In addition I paid them a monthly fee for 5+ years. That's a lot of money altogether. I wasn't interested in the direction they were taking the game so I stopped there and I play my legitimately purchased game on servers that provide the experience I paid for.

Well I mentioned the other day that the side of the box appears to have been printed upside down. In order for it to match up with the rest of my games I have to put the box on the shelf upside down. That was not the case with Custodian. The manual is smaller than the Custodian manual which makes it dissimilar to typical Jaguar manuals. That's fine but it is different from the previous release. You are also correct that the cartridge label is too small for the cart which is a departure from Custodian. That's also a small gripe that I don't care too much about. The most glaring thing though is the large number of typos in the manual. There are numerous places where the main character's name is spelled wrong (Hire instead of Hiro), words are run together (the worst case of this being in the Shields section where it says "ThisgivesHiroasixteen"), misspellings and other mistakes like graphics shadows on top of text. I would think at the very least the text of the manual would be run through a spell checker. Preferably it would be proof read by numerous individuals. The game played well but it froze for me when entering my initials for the high score screen. I haven't tried to duplicate it yet. I will play it again later and see if it happens. Your post mirrored my thoughts. The overall quality of this release does not match the quality of Custodian. I'm not sure what changed but I hope the kinks can be worked out going forward.

Out of curiosity, did the box sides get printed upside down?

Badlands is a blast. I like Commando a lot as well but it's pretty tough. My son gets a good bit further in it than I do.

I ported it to original Xbox as mentioned in my sig. It's a supported platform in our codebase so the code can be browsed in our source control repository. Everything works including a launcher to join multiplayer games. I have debug kits which I used to develop the port. I ported it to the Wii as well but it isn't complete and so hasn't been released yet. It also can be built from our repository. Single player works just fine with a classic controller or gamecube controller. Wiimote doesn't work right yet. You can turn with the wiimote but it stops after a certain point so it's not really usable. The network connection also doesn't work yet. Midi music does. I could port it to PS3 if I had a modded console. I am not aware of anyone else having done it though. When it comes to getting a game there are sporadic matches happening a lot more frequently. The best way to get a game is to pop into #odamex on quakenet. There is also a discord but we did not set it up and we have no control there. I'm not sure any of the devs even frequent it.
-
So your go to is Chocolate but you use Zandronum for online? As an Odamex dev I hope that you at least know about our engine considering all of the engines you were able to list. You aren't going to find a client/server online engine closer to the oldschool experience than ours. They used it for the Doom 20th anniversary tournament at Quakecon 2013. Check my sig. Alright... that's enough of that. I'm just glad Doom is so active still. I don't really care what source port people use to play it. Well as long as they aren't trying to pass off Brutal Doom as oldschool Doom. That's just wrong.

Selling my Atari Jaguar dev kit with a Jaguar CD, Elansar, Philia ..
Hyper_Eye replied to Orion_'s topic in Atari Jaguar
Thank you for sharing your games with us. You are very talented and the Jaguar community is fortunate that you chose our quirky console to develop for. -

NTSC. I have two more Jags I can try. All of my systems are NTSC but I have both K and M models as well as RF, composite, and s-video cables. I can use headphones as well.

I spent a few hours playing Doom last night through my sound system which was turned up pretty loud. I am using s-video cables. I could not discern any buzzing or static sounds. I stood in an area where I could strafe left to have the screen filled by a light and then strafe right for the picture to become very dark. I didn't notice any audible difference between the two. My television is a different story. It's a CRT that produces a nice high-pitched sound that my children can hear from a room away when the television is on. I rarely hear it myself. I don't have a hearing problem but there are frequencies that you lose the ability to hear as you get older. I've been playing Doom since it was released. I have played a whole lot of Jaguar Doom since shortly after it was released for the Jaguar. My Jaguar cables have evolved over the years starting with RF, then composite, and finally s-video. I have never noticed this phenomenon and this is the first I have heard of it.

Hardware Problem - Rapid Power On/Off
Hyper_Eye replied to Hyper_Eye's topic in 3DO Interactive Multiplayer
Well I have discovered that if I leave it unplugged for a while (5+ minutes) it will power on once. If I leave it on I can play it all I want. Once I turn it off and attempt to power it on again the console will go into the rapid power cycle loop. I do believe that some bad caps are the problem. Console5 has a cap kit for $11. I think I'm going to go ahead and get the kit. -
I turned on my Panasonic FZ-1 3DO today after a few months of not touching it. It has been plugged in the whole time. When I hit the power button... sadness. No power LED. At first I thought it wasn't coming at all but then I realized I could hear a noise. Looking closely I determined that the power LED is coming on for a split second and then shutting off in a rapid cycle. The console "whirs" each time it does this. I have no idea what is going on with it. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in. Nothing. Hitting the eject button does nothing. Has anyone ever seen this issue before? Is it likely I need to replace some capacitors? Thanks for any assistance.

Best Online Forum for Original Xbox?
Hyper_Eye replied to boxpressed's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I like to go to http://www.emuxtras.net to discuss the original Xbox. A lot of active homebrew devs (myself included) and softmod devs use that site as their primary spot for collaborating, discussing Xbox, and for making their releases available. There are sections for most consoles but the original Xbox is the primary console discussed there. -

So you think the Pro-controller is expensive?
Hyper_Eye replied to danny_galaga's topic in Atari Jaguar
Their argument is that the box is unique to the controller because the serial number is on each part (shipping box, display box, controller) and so it is only complete with that matching shipping box. I don't buy it. The shipping box doesn't display well like the inner box does. Collector's want to display their valuable item. I didn't realize there ever was a market for VGA graded items. I always thought they were just way overpriced games in a plastic case. It never occurred to me to actually buy one. -
I can't take it anymore!

It's one. Inside the shipping box is this box. -

It seems they had two and they accepted an offer of $10,000 for the first one. 10 grand! I don't know how someone justifies something like this. Steel Battalion is awesome though. My wife snagged me one some years back for $125. -
There's more to those images than just rendering at a higher resolution. Those emulators include a number of shaders and filters that are used to make those games look that good. I hope Microsoft will put that much effort into their OG Xbox emulator and we will see similar results. We just have to wait and see.
-
Personally I'm glad they are doing this but I don't think it's going to be even close to as popular as 360 BC. We're old so it doesn't occur to us the percentage of Xbox users that weren't even born when the OG Xbox came out. My son is 13. He's a teenager. He was born at the end of the OG's life. He has played a lot of OG Xbox because I have them in my house and I hype him up about the games. Most of his friends don't even know what it is when they see it. I also think that people see OG Xbox games with their nostalgia goggles on. Some of them are pretty impressive like Black, Half-Life 2, and Just Cause. Most gamers will see OG Xbox games and immediately complain that the graphics suck. I don't know what they intend to do on Xbox One to improve the appearance of the games but we already got additional AA and upscaling on the 360. Upscaling is not a magic bullet that makes games automatically look better. If you upscale too much it makes them look worse. I also think it is highly unlikely that they will bring back Xbox Live for any OG titles.

What I do is take one blade of a pair of scissors and slip it into one of the sides and then turn it. The side will pop right up. Then do the other side the same way and proceed with the folding from there.
-
When a 360 is updated it blows efuses so there's no way to downgrade. I'm not aware of any work-arounds having come about but I don't keep up with the 360 mod scene as much as I do the OG scene.
-
If your 360 has the blades dash then you might consider not updating it. It can be jtagged.

Software development is my job and it has been for a long time. I am software lead on numerous efforts at my company and I have overseen product development from initial concept (meaning ideas that I conceived and pitched) to delivery. With that context please take this as an experienced developer offering advice not criticism. Put the brakes on. Slow down. You pushed this out way way too fast. Your game is not finished. It has bugs and it has gameplay issues that keep it from reaching its full potential. When you do think it is finished you still need to move forward slowly. You need experienced testers to spend a significant amount of time playing all modes, getting good at all modes so they can advance far in the game, and you need to give them a good way to document everything they see to provide back to you. Then you need to take the time to address the things they present. Some of the time those things won't be bugs. Sometimes they will be things like, "This mode just isn't fun." That's exactly the kind of feedback you need. Here at AA you have access to incredibly experienced developers, Jaguar homebrew developers, and experienced playtesters. You have access to the gentleman that developed the game engine you are utilizing. Why wouldn't you ask them to try your game and provide feedback? Not only can CJ provide feedback and bug reports, he can tell from the way the game plays and sounds what you did wrong and he can tell you how to fix it. Take advantage of that! This process should not be out on the public forum as it creates too much noise. It should be through one-on-one communication or limited group discussion. I usually buy any Jaguar release if I am comfortable with spending the cash on it when it is made available. When I saw that your game was available to order I did not feel inclined to purchase it. When you release a finished game I'll be in line to buy a copy.

I play a lot of BC games. Honestly I play more BC games than I do Xbox One games. My 360 backlog is still quite large. I don't dabble with BC. I spend weeks or months at a time exclusively playing BC games. I do have my 360 hooked up but a lot of the time there are benefits to playing the games on Xbox One so I take advantage of it when it is an option. Right now I'm playing through Rage but I'm using the 360 because it has some known issues on Xbox One. After running into those problems a couple of times I was done with that. Among the general Xbox One population those numbers may be accurate. Among people on my friends list Xbox 360 games get a lot of play.
