Syndicate is one of my favorite games on this sytem. I have always loved this game. I think the controls just take some getting used to. Once your used to them it's pretty easy to get around nicely.

Works with Linux... that's all I need

Umm.... the CD contains mostly stuff that was written by Atari. Starcat doesn't OWN the Atari Development Tools. I'd hate to see yet another developer getting credit for other people's work. I'm sure the CD is useful and hope Lars does well with it, but putting things on a CD doesn't grant him any rights to it. If I wanted to put Atari sample code on my site I will do so. I'm not crediting anybody with someone else's work... I am simply crediting him with getting this information together. Use some smiley's man... be cheerful... ... That way you don't let off a "Don't be an idiot" vibe when you make informative posts such as the one above.

Super Cool Powerful New Gaming System Coming in March!!
Hyper_Eye replied to Thunderbird's topic in Atari Jaguar
That linux console would have been so sweet... I love anything that uses the best OS out there... -
Well... don't post anything off the cd... just your own stuff... wouldnt want to take away all Starcat's sales...
-
Well... I just purchased mine

I had live and UC both pre-ordered and picked them up the day they were available. It is sweet. There are still some needed improvements though. I have UC, MechAssault, and Ghost Recon... always open for some gaming... gamertag: Hyper_Eye

Which means I need no boot rom correct? Just the cable and ProtSE?
-
Emulator was my thought heh. I was thinking if I got Protector SE I could use an emulator and everytime something major was achieved go ahead and burn a cd. Seems plausible to me... am I wrong? The only problem I see is the state of current emulator's. Not really ready to test games with yet but The Tempest Project seem's to be coming along nicely rather quickly. I figure it might be ready by the time I'm ready to start testing anything major.

It look's like he's talking about removing the header off of a ROM image. So I would expect that he is referring to a downloaded image. Maybe I am wrong... I don't know.

Just an idiot leaving negative feedback... funny
Hyper_Eye replied to bjybjy's topic in Auction Central
I would see if there is a way to dispute that negative feedback. That is the most ifnoirnt feedback I have ever seen. -
Hmm... I was wondering what kind of game the Jag needs. I know there is nor RPG's really but that requires a lot of plot and character build-up and that's just really not my thing. I was thinking of something along the lines of a FPS. Something a little faster pace than what is currently available and with current play styles... CTF, Standard Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Laser-Tag and so on. Of course I would want to make a game like that networkable and will want to make it as compatible with both the Jaglink and Jaglink2 as possible. There would also have to be a single-player aspect... which I think could be achieved in a UT fasion. Of course it will be a while before I really have anything under way but it would be nice to know what I'm working towards. I know most people have a bit more interest towards classic gaming but I think a Jag game with a modern flavor would be nice to have on the Jag. Think anybody would be interested?

Well... I run a Linux server on my network which stays on 24/7 (as all my machines do) and it's main purpose is web pages. It's not any T1 or greater line though and my bandwidth usually sits around 1450/245. If that is acceptable I would be happy to host it free of charge.

I looked through the old post's and I have found a post asking about Jaguar Development resources... guides and such to help understand the architecture better. I hate to ask this question again but the post is from '01 and some of the links are dead. I was wondering if there is any new resources that would come in handy as well as locations to well-known resources that may have moved to a new site. I have been developing PC applications for past couple of years. For the past year I have been developing Linux/Unix applications for the government on defense contracts. Though it is good money it is not what I want to do and I hope it is not what I make a career out of. I actually want to make consumer software... in particular desktop applications and games. Of course desktop applications are all PC and I am already well into a few projects which I will be announcing in some time (they are Linux desktop applications though I do have plans for Window's ports... Linux will be my focus.) When it comes to game development my main interest is not in PC's but in consoles as I feel that is the true way to enjoy a game. I have gone a little into game development but have never worked on a full project due to the time I spent on desktop application development. I was talking to a friend about my interest in starting a full-fledge game project (he does not even own a jag by the way) and he told me since my love is the Jaguar then I should start there. I know it may be more difficult to develop on than say XBox as XBox development is so close to PC development using DirectX but the SDK is not freely available for it and on Jaguar I can actually release a game as a commercial product or as a download (depending on the size of the project and the amount of time it takes to complete.) Anyway... I just thought I would go into why I am interested and the experience I have with software development. If anybody can help me out and point in the direction of some good info I would definitely appreciate it.

Muhahaha.... *heads down to CompUSA to hit up the XBox section."

I picked up my first Jag in '96. I was looking around town for a used N64 at a decent price. Nobody had one used. Unbelievable. I stopped at a pawn shop and my little brother pointed at a Jag displayed on a table. I had never heard of Jaguar before (though I have had plenty of past with Atari.) I loved the look of it. My first question was whether or not games were available. The system came with Cybermorph but I was really wanting a good console verison of Doom. The guy who owns the shop called KB Toys and they informed him they had a lot of games for it including Doom. I got the Jag with Cybermorph for 100 bucks. The I headed down to KB Toys to get some games. When I got there I found they had brand new Jags with Cybermorph for about 40 bucks. I was pissed. That jerk at the shop had to of known, he had just called the store. I went ahead and picked up a copy of AvP, Doom, and Kasumi Ninja. I also picked up a brand new Jag and then headed back to the shop. After quite a bit of argument I got the guy to take the Jag back. I then went home and tried the system out. I was thrilled! AvP was awesome, Doom was smooth and much better than any other true version of Doom on a console (N64 didn't get the original Doom.) Kasumi Ninja had most of what I was looking for in a fighting game. Not long after I picked up Super Burnout (which I still love) and a copy of the Jag Gamer's guide. I have been collecting game's for it ever since. I later fried that first console when I plugged it into the wrong AC/DC adapter. I have since purchased two more Jag's... one as my regular console (the newer M###### serial model) and one to network with (an older K##### model.) I have collected the cd unit, 42 cartridges (all in boxes with manual's and overlays except Cybermorph which had no box), 10 cd games (again... all in boxes with manuals and overlays), the net adapter, the Team-Port, the CD Memory Cart, flyer's, stickers, a t-shirt... My collection is getting very large and I still have to get a lot more (want a rotary controller and Battlesphere gold BAD!) I have my wolder consoles... NES and Genesis... and I have my newer consoles... PSX and XBox and a very nice PC. Even with those newer consoles and all the fun those older consoles provide... my Jaguar is still my most prized console. I make sure everything is set up in a way that when you look at my entertainment center the Jaguar stuff is the most noticeable. My Jaguar still recieves plenty of play and I'm still interested in getting more games and accessories for it (got an extension cable on ebay BIN today... time for some couch-potato action) and I don't think I will ever get bored with it. With titles like Tempest2k, AvP, the best version of Wolf3d ever, Rayman, Zool 2, Iron Soldier 1 & 2, Battlesphere, Highlander, Battlemorph, Ultra Vortek, Towers II, Brutal Sports Footbal, and on and on and on... I don't think there is a short of good games (despite what people will say.) A lot of these games can be called instant classics IMHO. Is it worth buying? Well... don't look at it from the price perspective only. If you never play it it's not worth a dime. If you are a person that only enjoys the newest and greatest games.. then you need to look into a nextgen console like the XBox, PS2, or Gamecube. If you like classic gaming then this is a great console to have. If you are like me and love gaming from the 2600 to now... then this is a must-have console. It is all about what kind of gamer you are. I have friends that won't touch the Jaguar because it isn't the latest and greatest. In my opinion these are not true gamer's. I actually have a friend who thinks Doom blows! If you are a true gamer that sees games for their playability value... there's plenty of it here. T2k will never cease to provide an excellent pass-time... as is the same for a lot of the games on the system. Anyway... that got long... that's just my take on it... of course I could be wrong.

You know.... I just found that on wal-mart before I came here to check on the forums lol. I looked into it at the website and it looks pretty sweet. http://www.midway.com/cgi-bin/gx.cgi/AppLo...eid=ZZZ8TQMJVZC I will be picking up a copy for XBox very soon.

They actually have a bunch of auctions up right now.

I used to shop on goatari.com a lot a couple of years ago. I enjoyed shopping there as the games were always brand spanking new. The prices were also decent. I got Towers II there and it is still in perfect condition (as are most of my jag games) and I got quite a few other's there to. I have noticed that their prices have risen though. Would you say that their prices are still fair for new Jag games. One thing that I worry about when bidding on ebay is that the games may have some wear and tear... which is unacceptable to me in most cases.

It definitely could do with some more spead/action. But I have definitely played worse games. The thing that keeps me interested is the progression in moves throughout the game. I think that was a great idea.
-
I like Ruiner Pinball and have spent many of an hour with it. I don't have Pinball Fantasies though and don't know how it compares.
-
I was very excited about both those games. Like I said before... FFL was decent in my opinion. Supercross3d pissed me off... I was so excited about the game and it is a piece of junk... not worth the cart space it takes up... but like any major jag fan... it will remain in my collection.

How could I forget Wolf 3d, Syndicate (!), Flashback, and Towers II. All great games! A gaming session is in order now!
