I’m told rescuing 9 guys is possible. It is a 9 on the high score site. I’ve never gotten over an 8 either though.

Here is the Conquest of the World Manual... my scanner could not scan the board though without damaging it. Page 1 has a sort of translucent film overlay with text on it so I included a scan of that.

That looks pretty good but I’ve never bought one so hopefully somebody else can chime in. 
 

I don’t know if anywhere that sells them either.

That could be several things but in my experience the most likely culprit is the 8048 chip. I’ve had about 20 O2s in my life and about a quarter had that chip burned out. 

It is a proprietary IC so not easy to find loose. 
You might try to check the voltages coming out of the voltage regulator just in case as that does go bad although not nearly as often as the 8048. 
 

The bubbling of on the bottom of the board is fairly normal for O2s.

[My Odyssey I got for Christmas isn’t working]

It could be the connector and/or the microcontroller or graphics chip going bad. These do go bad from time to time. You could try reseating those chips too… they are socketed on the motherboard.

I think that is the item but I’ve never used it myself. That ribbon should pull right out of the board btw. I just did a recap and it went back in no problem.

 

If there is enough slack you could try trimming it back before the break too if the foil doesn’t work.
