  1. So last night I finally fixed my friends ps3 slim...what I did was replace the new lens I bought on ebay with his old one...so apparently my replacement lens came DOA...and the real problen was corrupted boot file so when I restored his ps3 it actually fixed the problem.
  2. When are they releasing the new Xbox 360 slim? I Wonder if it's actually gonna be slim as opposed to different body style, haha
  3. Well it seems like there is no fix as to why the Blu Ray player reads some blu rays and not others...some one in a forum pointed out that theirs didn't play dual layer blu rays...not sure which ones those are, but in my situation it plays COD Black Ops 2 perfectly and I'm sure that's dual layer since it's fairly new. Here is a list of what I tried doing: *Replace the laser lens *Restore the entire system (took 11+ hours!) *Restore default settings *Restore file system *Rebuild database *Cleaned the lens with alcohol swab *Have the latest firmware so my friend could log in *Lubed up the rails so the lens could move back and fourth smoothly So at this point I'm assuming its that POS motor that moves the lens back and fourth since it plays COD Black Ops 1 every 10 tries...i guess it's just luck when it does work. Is there any way to replace the motor for that thing? Not even sure what it would be called in order to look for that part. I doubt it's the cd spinner since it does play games. My conclusion for it being the motor that moves the lens back and forth is this: The PS3 has limited time to fetch data it needs, and if the data is close (games that work) then it has no problem but if the data is spread out across the disc then it fails. So I think the lens isn't moving too slow to fetch the data at the proper time. LOL Kinda a wild assumption I know. If anyone could help me at this point I'd highly appreciate it! Here is a list of forums/websites I been using to help me along the way...hope it helps someone who has trouble here. *http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-General/How-to-access-Playstation-3-SAFE-MODE/td-p/5812274 *http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3/Is-my-PS3-close-to-getting-yellow-light/td-p/6667498 *http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PSN-Video-and-Music-General/Mystery-My-PS3-will-play-some-Blu-ray-discs-not-others/td-p/30520853/page/2 *https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1488 *http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/18/firmware-2-50-adds-hidden-recovery-menu/ *http://www.somelifeblog.com/2009/10/ps3-diagnostics-mode-playstation-3.html *http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/my-ps3-wont-play-blu-ray-movies-but-will-play-games-wtf.452532540/ *http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+PlayStation+3+Slim+PRAM+Battery/3237/3 *http://news.softpedia.com/news/PS3-Failing-to-Play-Blu-ray-Movies-Again-49498.shtml *http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=90206 * Thanks again!
  4. It seems with the whole red ring of death for Xbox 360 and the yellow light of death for PS3 can only be fixed temporarily. I found a few youtube videos on fixing the RROD: Blowtorch: Full Proper Fix: Another Full Video (In Parts):
  5. Well I thought I fixed it because the game I use to test is prototype and that worked in the morning. Then when I got home from work I decided to try a blu ray movie so I tried the incredible hulk and that didn't read so I thought that was odd. So I tried a different game and I tried rage and that wouldn't work. So then I tried wall-e on blu ray and that worked. So it seems that some blu ray movies/games work and others do not. This is the forum where I thought restoring the system would fix the problem: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=90206 Does anyone have any idea on what could be the issue? It already has a brand new lens installed too.
  6. So I ended up fixing the ps3. Searched online about the issue and apparently the boot file in the system that enables it to read blu ray format can become corrupted causing the unit to not read blu rays. So you have to do a full system restore (11+ hours) that will replace the corrupted file with a new one. So I did just that and now it works! Kinda sucks I wasted money on the laser lens
  7. I was fixing my friends PS3 Slim and it will read dvd's but it won't read blu rays or ps3 games. So I figured it was the blu ray lens. So I ordered a new one online and I just finished installing it and the same symptoms are happening! Ugh...would anyone know what's wrong with it? It couldn't be the data cable could it? Thanks for the help! -Mark
  8. Sega Master System - Psycho Fox makes me want to go psycho and smash the hell outta the game!
  9. I was helping my friend move last week and I noticed he still had his two broken xbox 360s (both have the RROD). So he didn't want them and said I could have them to use for parts. A few years ago my cousin gave me his xbox 360 with the RROD and I ordered one of those xbox 360 RROD fix it kits. I installed it properly and the thing only worked for a month later before dying completely. I was wondering is there any "Real" way to fix the RROD that is fool proof? Or is it all just a shot in the dark. Because I was gonna try and repair them if it's actually possible. I saw this guide on Llamma's site: http://www.llamma.co...x-clamp_fix.htm It looks like a more permanent fix for but never tried that method before. Any suggestions? Also I'd imagine I could buy all the hardware at a local lowes or home depot....anyone know the size of screw and washers I would need? Thanks!
  10. Thanks Mitch! Also here is the best place to buy the replacement part at: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 170920461238 From Ebay ID: starwander. So far it's the cheapest I seen on the internet.
  11. NinjaWarrior: Wholesale accounts? ALL: An update: I finally fixed it! I got an install guide from here: http://www.nintendorepairhut.com/selfrepairguides/downloadablerepairguide.html I also DIDN'T HAVE TO DESOLDER THE RF SOCKET. You first desolder the two pins on the ac socket then wedge it out. Even tho the part is slightly expensive, it's worth fixing.
  12. One of my friends got a saturn at a yard sale and when he hooked it up and turned it on the power light just blinks and doesn't do anything. Is there any way to fix this? I personally never heard of this problem before. Thanks!
  13. I got the piece in the mail and yea you do have to de-solder the old piece but how the hell do you desolder it with the rf jack sticking out of it? I tried heating the solder and wiggling it out and its not going well. Also with the rf jack sticking out how do I install the new one? I saw this video which explains 0%: Is there any detailed instructions on how to replace these things? Would I have to desolder the RF jack? Thanks!
  14. Thanks Osgeld! I actually just took a shot with it and soldered the farthest solder points for the two connections and now the game boy color works! so the two points in the middle I left alone. I also had another one with the same problem...broken speaker. Is this a common problem with these things? Thanks for everyone's help! Also if anyone is having the same issue and would like to fix it Id suggest buying replacement speakers from my earlier post, that's where I got mine from and not from a game boy advance
  15. So this is where I bought new speakers from: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F181138042599%3FssPageName%3DSTRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT%26_trksid%3Dp3984.m1497.l2649 I got them in over the weekend and it looks like it has 4 solder points on the speaker as opposed to the gameboy color two solder points. Does anyone know how to hook this thing up?
  16. I have one of those cassette to headphone jack things and its like going from 1980 to now since you can plug it into your phone and listen to pandora or your iPod lol
  17. here is the video I used: The article I posted earlier is good too!
  18. Thanks Dripfree for suggesting the youtube video...ended up fixing it....I didn't realize you had to have the system on so you know that the screen is being fixed haha....thanks for the help!
  19. I have the one with vertical dead pixels...see pic...I tried the soldering iron trick with no luck...maybe I'm doing it wrong?
  20. I'd hate to bring up an old thread from the dead but I'm actually trying to replace the LCD screen on an original game boy due to dead pixels on the screen and I tried looking where to buy a replacement lcd screen with no luck...all I can find is the protective cover which is in great condition on the game boy i'm trying to fix. I found this tutorial how to replace it: http://www.maxjusticz.com/restore-modify-an-original-dmg-gameboy/ I just need to know where to buy the part at...any help would be great! Thanks guys!
  21. Any idea of when this game will be released?
