  1. I finally got ScummVM working and im running DAY OF THE TENTACLE beautifully. Until I noticed DOTT runs quite well anyway on Windows Me with it. But at least I know ScummVM and a great emulator for the Scumm games. @raindog - I have to try the "DOSBox" emulator u mentioned. Its sounds promising, and im not too interested in the 3D games like DUKE NUKEM 3D anyway that wont run under it because they run anyway well in Windows Me. Just the good old 2D Type games i wanna play again. @Hydian - Ill give your DRDOS a go to and compare the best difference from DRDOS or DOSBox.
  2. I noticed all of the games slowed down after installing a higher version (it was Win32MAME .66. But now ive got MAME .66 DOS to work and have enabled scanlines and its quite fast again now. So yes it requires a bit of fiddling around.
  3. Its unfair to compare Consoles and Computers like that so Ill split mine up. Plus its unfair to compare a Atari 2600 vs Playstation 2. Computers 1. C64 2. Atari 400/800 3. Sega SC-3000 4. Vic20 5. Apple II Consoles (excluding PS or PS 2) 1. Atari 2600 2. Intellivison 3. Sega Megadrive 4. Nintendo
  4. @InkyAtari - isnt FreeDOS a thing for use of Real DOS... Then its not an emulation. @Ericball - I remember the good old (or bad old) CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.bats.. The most important 2 files on your system back then. I configured all them and made serveral more and created a multiple DOS menu at startup,so most of my DOS games worked back then. Then the big CPU DOS games came out.. Redneck Rampage and Blood and only could used 320x200 resolution back then... yuck! One of my favourite MS-DOS game was Crusader (I think it was called). when you were sort of a red Robocop type man.... Gee I wish I could play that game again one day

    What is GBA?

    GameBoy Advanced... im guessing...
  6. Thanks this good! I was mainly thinking on wanted to play these Lucas Games again and this should be perfect for Day of the Tentacle. Im in a long queue right now and also had to register but this ScummVM looks promising from the screenshots Just cant wait till I can download it !
  7. Just Curious, since we can now play all our old games using emulators for all the other popular systems... Including up to Amiga, and Arcade Machines. Well there were lots of MS-DOS Classics lots of people cant play again. Mainly because the latest versions of Windows doesnt allow DOS Mode anymore. (Only a very umcompatible DOS-BOX) Also our PCs are way too fast for them too. So the question is, is an MS-DOS Emulator ever being considered (Like they will use a speical Disk/HD Image file for each game, and also this MS-DOS Emulator will also have to emulate the hardware aswell ? Because just curious if one-day we will be able again to play DOS Games on our modern PCs once again.
  8. Without doubt, the 8bit Ultimas were my favourite RPG. Ultima 4 - Quest of the Avatar was my best of all !
  9. LOL, I wish it was that easy for me too!.. So im gonna start with the easy stuff first. learn 6502 assembly, write my game, then the nitemare hardest task for all. Give my new game a name.
  10. Im starting to see it now. Soo im guessing after reading the above posts that it was the PCs and 3D type games that killed off the beautiful Amiga. But compared to PC 386/486 VGA Graphics what we most had, and DOS was uncomfotable to work with for some PC Owners. The 2D games for the PC didnt look as good as the Amiga and plus PC you need joysticks to calibrate everytime, sound setting to set etc. I simply owned an Amiga 500 (1MB) and at the time it had better graphics than the 486s 256 VGA Graphics. At first instead of popular computers getting better and better all the time, it felt as first the 486 VGA 256 colours fell back in time. But Now I understand those PC has the speed for more advanced games like 3D Doom. Plus lots of PC Versions of Amiga classics ended up to PC in EGA/VGA and just using the PC Spreaker for sound. YUCK ! How much I missed my Amiga after finally getting a 486 PC. So obviously the 16bit consoles didnt have much to do with it after all!
  11. I dont know what an AT/XT is but this "protection fault" may be of been common and fixed with the later versions. But its worth a try i guess.
  12. I got an Amiga in 1993, but it began actually to disappointed me, as I expected it too last commerically at least till 2000. But it seems to start commerically dieing in 1993, and by 1994 I sold it. Wasnt interested in the fab on 16bit consoles so I stopped playing games all together. So I had no gaming machine during the 94-97 peroid. And PCs felt too complicated and unreliable and expensive to bother owning one. Althought it looked like the 16bit consoles (Sega Megadrive, SNES, etc) were the reason for the fast declined in Amiga commerical games. by the end of 1994, They seemed to have gone off the shelves altogether beening replaced with 16bit Console Games and Expensive PC Games. I never liked 16bit Consoles as much as the Amiga (although u dont have to wait for any disk loading unlike Amiga). But the 3-button control pads I didnt like so much on 16bit consoles. So was it the 16bit Consoles or the PC that killed the Amiga ? cause I thought the Amiga 500 could of been pushed a lot further in its life.
  13. Oh I c wapchimp. I havent thought of my first 2600 game as yet. I wish I could of something original, but all ideas have all been done before so its impossible. Obviously my first 2600 Game would be probably simple but playable and thats a good start so far. But ill got a long way to go, and just about to start reading Session 3 now.
  14. Noo! MAME .69 is out now!.. I should of checked first Go download that one!
  15. MAME .36 is an old version, and my MAME versions have never been that old. Im using MAME .66 (althought MAME .68 they r up too) Go to http://www.mame.dk/emulators/ and download MAME .68 the latest version and you will also (if you wants all the cheats to all your games) need to download the CHEAT.DAT serperately and put that put in your Cheat Folder in your MAME Directory. Then just hit TAB.. Its as simple as that.

    what is MAME?

Talking about MAME, does anyone know what "screen-tilt" means? Lots of the Games say no screen tilt. And I just cant figure out what it means? Games such as Power Drift as No screen tilt. Althought Power Drift is emulated using Final Burn not MAME. ?
  17. The designed for game/cartridge would obviously be the easy part, hopefully you make soon be able to make your Safari a reality. How come its copyrighted 1981 ?
  18. Thanks for your advice Albert and Thomas I tried it and yes it works now ive been away for a while and didnt know this was a major problem that has come up. It now works if you are patient. (1 - 2 mins) I was beginning to think it was just my browsers fault. (I even wanted to edit my above post to add that sentence in after) But now i know. Well at least i now know your own posts can still be edited.
  19. Im interested too! But I dont a very little or none at all about assembly language programming but im very eager to learn. Plus if I felt if I can learn how to successfully program the 2600, I feel like im then capable of learning anything.
  20. Just Curious if anyone has any problems in editing your own posts if youve done a major spelling error, or needed to add something important to it. I cant edit any posts today, and some things ive "said" need major changes and it wont work. I edit the my posts alright then click on SUBMIT and nothing happens so ill try again and again like mad until it either works or I give up. I guess its not the Web Sites fault but this Forum fault. What type of forum is this? Is it Phpbb ?
  21. Thats the only thing that worries me, its hard to believe we can program anything useful at all with just 128 Bytes. I used to program on an unexpanded VIC-20 (3583 Bytes) and I found out you couldnt use all of that. Which sometimes began to frustate me. Im guessing Atari 2600 code is gonna have to be clever and advanced. (and we talking about Assembly Language now alright) Anyway ive got all the nesscessary requirements now to get started (DASM, text editors, etc). I guess ill just have to re-read all this again, and keep reading Session 2, Anyway about Atari 2600 programming limitations is what makes me love a challenge. I guess any useful code on a 2600 is very rewarding.
  22. This is interesting, after reading both sessions I finding know the difference between PAL and NTSC Televisions. (Also been to some links learning about it other ways) Techinally PAL (More scanlines, slower framerate) NSTC (Less Scanlines, Faster framerate) Ive grown up in a PAL-TV Country and had no little or have played very little NTSC Games. So I may myself start on PAL. Its probably best I go back and re-read the tutorials again before I start reading Tutorial 3. I feel ive just learnt 1 major important step today so Ill let all this sink in me and come back tommrow and start on Turtorial 3. Thanks Andrew, you couldnt of explained it any better.
  23. There were plenty of games that were better on the Atari 8bits than C64. Esciapply the games during the early to mid 80s. Here I can name a few... Popeye: ATARI wins for the extra smoothness as C64 was a little blocky. Boulder Dash - ATARI wins (just). The Construction kit i liked better as you had more choice of colours unlike the C64s 16 colours. MULE - ATARI wins to its better intro POKEY music than the C64s SID. Conan - ATARI wins due to the extra smoothness and better music Mercenary - ATARI wins as the extra smoothness and maybe more framerate journy between the linear graphics. Ultima 2 - ATARI.. lots of reasons ! Dont like the C64 version. Zepplin - ATARI Wins. both version are good but this style of game fitted better for the ATARI Astro Chase - ATARI - Nicer use of colours and graphics than the C64 Version. Never Ending Story (Adventure) - ATARI - Atari played the tune continiously in this adventure giving it more of a nicer appeal. Fort Apocalyse - ATARI. C64 was good too but Atari had the extra magic feeling towards this great game. Jet Set Willy - ATARI - Both differ but gameplay is much the same expect Atari brillant title music! Jungle Hunt - ATARI - Hard one to pick but i perfer the Atari version. Murder on the Zinderneuf - ATARI - Better use of colours for this type of game I guess. Pole Position - ATARI was very playable yet I thought the C64 version was surely unplayable and disapointing. Thats to name a few. I wont go into the C64's list. Lots of them our hard to tell which is better. But when it comes to gaming, I guess the C64 does win hards down. Atari's magic was in the early to mid 80s and C64 Magic wasnt appearing unlil at least after 1986. Well anyway thats my oppionon. BTW.. I do come from an PAL-TV country, so I guess the games I played where slower than the ones that had NTSC.
  24. The Pitfall Mayhem Adventure was ok, I wouldnt say fanastic. Theres 1000s of platform games and Pitfall - Mayhem is to exeception. Those end of level monsters in Pitfall Mayhem were so damn hard I still give up on it using a SNES Emulator and Freeze options.
  25. I never knew there was such thing as DVD-Rs. How much MB can u put on these (Cause DVDs look like plain CDs to me. ) I no ive only got Dial-up. But if I wanted to download every rom-set I probably could but it will take me over a month and then I probably take up about 6 CD-Rs. Plus no point in downloading em all when you dont even have a fast enough computer.
