I found programming on Atari 8bits quite nice. The sound of your keystokes clicks and no irrating blink cursor (like C64), and hundreds of colours to choose from in Basic. I wouldnt say it was harder than C64. They both had their differences. The only thing I disliked was the Atari gave you error codes if there was an error so you need your reference book handy at all times. And another thing about it was that you couldnt name your file when saving to Tape. But for C64 I didnt like the dull blank light Blue screen when saving or loading from/to tape.

Older Console/Computers cases that are made out of Wood.
Sharky replied to Sharky's topic in Classic Console Discussion
How would you know if thats real wood. Just as I thought the Atari 2600 has some wood on it (or even the Northstar Horizon). It could be plastic/metal painted with wood vanish or something. -
Your favorite arcade game to play in an emulator?
Sharky replied to Room 34's topic in Arcade and Pinball
In MAME I enjoy playing Ghost'n'Goblins (Has anyone can get past the clouds level (last level) I cant) And a bit of Popeye. -
As I see as reading from TMR and Nukey Shay conversations that it was a lot more difficult to code on the Atari 8bit than the C64. That probably explains why some classics of the 80s on the C64 - Commando, Ghost'n'Goblins, Impossible Mission, etc never made it to the Atari 800. Which i thought was a shame...

I seem to get it now i've just read up on it in www.old-computers.com. My dads first Atari looked exactly like this: Then later he upgraded it to one of these which case look a lot nicer than a C64s : Old-Computers says the start of production for these Atari series began in 1979 (1982 for C64). So now I could say that the Atari 8bits commerically lasted just as long or more as the C64 did. But my dad finally sold his last Atari 8bit and replaced it with an Amiga 500 and I was jealous as hell (There was no competion anymore as I still had my old C64). [/img]

Good question... I found out about emulators late in 2001. I got hold of PC64 and was overwelmed to actually play my old childhood favourites on my own PC. Later on I found myself emulating Atari Lynx and then the Atari 800 followed on as Atariwinplus came out. Then I thought I could try and get more advanced and started using MAME. Then I dared and emulated the Amiga and Atari ST soon after. Today I have over 35 emulators emulating most of the popular machines of the 70s, 80s and 90s with over 6800 games and building...

I remember the days when my Dad had an Atari 400/800 and I owned a Commodore 64 and of course we always used to argue which one was better. Of course I played his Atari 8bit computer tonnes of times. And one thing in common we both had 64K. I noticed in the 80s Atari and C64 seemed to compete against each other. Me and my dad both had our versions of Mule, Ghostbusters, Boulderdash. Popeye, Conan, Mercenary, Ultima, Bruce Lee etc. etc. One thing I felt most of those games were actually better on the Atari than the C64 and then again some were better on the C64. Of course I saw both computers had there limitations in their own ways. Such as the Atari 800 seemed it could display more colours and the C64 seemed to have an the edge over its music. But than again the Atari 800 felt a little faster than the C64. But when the 90s started, it felt like the Atari 800 was being left behind as new games kept coming for the C64 and no Atari 800 versions. Games such as Power Drift, Lemmings, Flimbos Quest, etc. It seems to compete with the Amiga instead. So the question is that makes me wonder. If both 8bit computers that were roughly the same age, why did the Atari 8bit computer commerically die earlier? Like ive recently checked out Atari's Numen demo, and Ive seen stunning effects than just can't be done as good on a C64. (or at all) And I also prefer to listen to Atari 8bit music than C64 music. It seems to have a great soundchip than most ppl think.

Hardly no info on net on Sega SC-3000 Cassette tape software
Sharky replied to Sharky's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I when and asked over there and I got a lot of useful info minutes after my post! They certainly know a lot about Segas. I found a site with some info on the games I asked about. Appartenly someone in New Zealand has those games and he sented them to France and has been waiting patiently for them to be dumped on the net. Unfortunately no Sega SC-3000 emulator supports Tape Emulation as yet because "they dont exist". There are over 60 Cassette tapes waiting to be dumped and when they are im sure a Sega SC-3000 Emulator will supprt Tape Emulation soon so I and everyone and play those games again! -
It worked! I downloaded it and got it going... Ive still got my older Real Spectrum (DOS) and Im beginning to have problems with it. 1. The default video mode is all wrong on my OS 2. It sometimes causes my whole PC to lock up and I have to restart windows Ill still have to keep DOS because its looks like the Windows version is very beta. I mean 320 x 240 window is too small (No way to enlarge it ?) Kempston/Sinchair joystick emulation isnt working with my keyboard Other than that its Great. Umm! Is there a way you can save your emulator setting so I dont have to change video modes, and selecting the joystick everything I start Realspec ?

A pity we can edit the color palette yet on any emulators as far as I know because I wouldnt mind the saturation slightly turned down at bit as thats how I use to play Atari 2600 Games.

This looks like just what I need, looking at the screen-shots. But as soon as I click on the download link. Im getting PAGE NOT FOUND error. Maybe because its trying to get to Geocities of Yahoo because those links never seem to work anymore. Ill just have to keep trying i guess.

I know very little about Spectrum computers because ive never owned one before. But I do like to play games on Spectrum with Emulation. Ive got 3 Spectrum Emulators for my OS (Windows Me) But they all have downers. Z80 version v4.00 - Is Shareware and you have to wait a lot time on the start up screen. Z80 (DOS) v4.00 - Its DOS and gives you a time limit of just 10 minutes. Speccyal v0.75 - Its looks good since its for windows but how to you get it to load TAP images ? RealSpec v92.21 - again its DOS and my computer doesnt like DOS Programs. Whats the best Spectrum Emulator to use thats for the Windows enviroment and not Shareware ?

Hardly no info on net on Sega SC-3000 Cassette tape software
Sharky replied to Sharky's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well I tried all those links... http://sg1000.emucamp.com/scgames.htm <--- It had some info on tape software but nothing on the graphic adventures. http://www.digitpress.com/faq/sg1000.txt - This was mainly just foucsing on the SG-1000 console with cartridge games. No tape software at all. http://members.tripod.com/~faberp/sc3gms.htm <--- much the same as above. I probably been to those sites before when I was looking my info so as MegaManFan Said I go and ask in the SMS Boards if they have a higher knowledge on Sega computers. This could of been the wrong place to ask, thanks away Kepone and MegaManFan. -
Hardly no info on net on Sega SC-3000 Cassette tape software
Sharky replied to Sharky's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Thanks the specs in Old-Computers is probably the best site for info on the computer itself but im after its info on its Cassette tape software while its only focusing on the Computer and the Game Cartridges. oh well... -
I know not very many people ever owned a SEGA SC-3000 Computer. But I once did in 1985 for about 6 months or so. I had very little Game Cartridges for it, but I did own about 8 or 9 Text/Graphics Adventures for it that loaded up from cassette in Sega Basic. As i can remember (I was only 8 years old at the time/wish I could remember the names of those), it had some nice graphical adventures on Tape that was split up in 3 or 4 parts or so. One I clearly remember was Bastow Manor, and there was a few others I once had. Ive tried searching around Google for something like Sega SC-3000 Cassette tape software/adventures but nothing comes up. Like its all been forgotten for good. (Only there Cartridge software games show up!) Do these adventures still exists or were they ever dumped on the net as Tape images? And another thing I know theres a least 2 Sega SC-3000 emulators out there (ones Meka) . But do any Emulate Tape control ? I doubt. Even though it would of been nice to find info/solutions on those so I could lay my mind to rest after never solving those adventures. Anyone know ?

Thanks Belgarath (and oseii) Ive now downloaded the latest version of Capprice and this is a Windows application now not DOS and Its quite good too. (version 3.52) (I only had DOS v1.11 version before) It now supports Joystick Control and Tape control (havent tried that yet). And the screen and graphics look a lot better. Im very happy now Mind you I have a slow Pentium 2 computer so I have to play Full-screen with scan-lines on for 100% Emulation speed. But im very happy now. Thanks

Hello, Im been getting a little too interested in Amstrad games and I play them under my current emulator called Caprice 32 v1.11. Problem is, its very outdated and feels very much of a DOS Version. I think the games have got too much color or maybe its suppose to look like that. Ive tried looking for an another Amstrad Emulator from the net and I came across Joyce or something (And I think err. Wrong Amstrad Computer Emulation im looking for). Well I had to no success. Its confusing because Ive never owned or seen a real Amstrad computer and finding the best Emulator (and most uptodate) is confusing. Anyone can recommend a good Amstrad emulation for my operating system (Windows Me). ?

Whoa! I was about to post a Thread relating to MULE but since this thread is hot right now I might as well ask it in here. I just cant work out out to start the Atari 800 Version of MULE (I can start up the C64 version alright!). But the Atari 800 I cant get past the lovely cool title screen with the music. It says something like select Joystick or Paddles and then I select Stick and it does nothing but fiddling around it tells me not to move the Joystick while pressing the Fire Button. It just doesnt make sense. How to you start the game ? BTW. Im using AtariWinPlus with the cursor keys at my emulated joystick.

Older Console/Computers cases that are made out of Wood.
Sharky replied to Sharky's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I see now.. It just fooled me The Atari 2600 case must of been designed to look like wood. But heres a computer from 1977 I found on Old-Computers.com A Northstar Horizon?? Never heard of it but.. this reminds me how a modern PC Case/Box would look it it was made from wood and not Plastic or Metal. Maybe Plastic/Metal is more enviromently friendly than the use of Wood. -
Ive noticed the very older and first consoles cases are made out of wood. Like the Atari 2600 and the Apple 1 cases were made out of wood. I feel its a shame plastic became popular when the consoles/computers came out because Plastic isnt as strong as Wood. These days I get sick of everything (TVs, Microwaves, etc.) cases are made of plastic. Why the sudden changeover... ? But i feel it would be great if Plastic was never invented and our modern PCs cases were made out of wood.

Ive got 7 versions of Pitfall II - Lost Caverns all for different systems Atari 2600 Atari 5200 Commodore 64 Apple II MSX Spectrum There even a Arcade version of Pitfall but its hardly identical or the same But I only love the Atari 2600 version because this pushes it to the limits

Or was it called Party-Land I wish I could remember
-
I wasnt too fuzzy on Pinball because Computer games like Space Invaders was out as I grew up and I was more interested in stuff like that. But one Pinball Machine I would always rememeber is Party-Time (I thing it was called that!) I used to spend all my loose change on that pinball!

No wonder y my friend wouldnt lend me that game ever!...
