Due to Nostignga reasons I wanna re-live using the Good old Atari's built-in BASIC (I think it was built in
)Well my friend had one Atari 800 (Wasnt the newest model but the one before that
)Anyway I remember the some of the good old commands like CLOAD, CSAVE, GRAPHICS 18 , ruff, ruff , ruff and getting ERROR 13, or ruff, ruff, raff
Well ivce been trying to get to Atari 400/800 Basic using an emulator called
ATARIWINPLUS... I believe i might be missing a ROM somewhere because I cant get to ATARI Basic with the good old READY. Prompt.
Ive unchecked the option Disable Basic at boot-up
But i just keep getting BOOT ERROR on the emulator screen continuously
The ROMS I do have are:
atari5200.rom
ataribas.rom
atariosa.rom
atarixl.rom
atariosb.rom
I got the obvoious in the right parts in my ROM Settings.... Am i missing a required ROM here? or maybe I got a corrupt one.

Its surely would seem possible, altought on NO expert in Atari 2600 Programming (nothing at all yet)
But to be smooth u will have to omit the floor, ceiling textures at least.

Hi Mock
Welcome to AtariAge...
I know this forum been going for about 2 years now and theres a lot of newbies as well as oldbies.
I like to say if you join late then you feel left out... And thats the way it feels for me
But im gonna hope to get into this forum better and I hope you do aswell Mock!

It was so long ago now i cant remember when I first saw Pac-man.
But you think, almost every computer/console has a version on Pac-man somewhere even the small handheld electronic games.
Funny ive never really seen the appeal of Pac-man because a head with eye and mouth eating dots in a 2D Maze didnt live up to my realism.

One thing I love about Z26 that Stella doesnt have is the abilty to press ALT & ENTER and you can play your Atari 2600 Games in a little Windows.
Thats good sometimes because you can talk in this forum and play your favourite games at the same time.

-
I can't really tell but do you have to chase the ghost or something?I'll have to try it out in a while to see if the problem is indeed a corrupt ROM. I can't tell until I play it again.
Yes u chase the ghost and keep hitting him 25 times but be quick u dont want the time to run out on the later levels

Position yourself so that Dracula is between you and the open cage. Use the cross to "push" him into the cage.
Thanks to you Mindfield, I tried it and have now COMPLETED Ghost Manor.
Its quite easy and good actually. Very original game!..
I might try to be the Boy next...

-
Corrupted ROM?I've noticed that all I can do in Ghost Manor is move around..can't go into the building that's on the screen.
Hmm..

Sounds like u have. If the game automatically resets itself after you've touched the ghost 25 times then you got a Corrupt ROM. Replace it...
Thats was happened to me.
BTW.. Anyone know how to use the crosses on the last level to kill Dracula ??

-
There must be a Corrupt ROM of Ghost Manor somewhere. No wonder y i couldnt play this probably.
Well replaced it with a working one from Atari-Age and its works fine now...

I just checked Supercharger Frogger.
If its "Supercharger" like loaded from Cassette tape, does this game come in Parts ? Like.. When u get to a certain level it loads up more?
Thanks Spiceware i liked it...

Polls suck bad...that's why they were kinda voted out when these new boards went online. The mods still retain the ability to create polls, though. Giving all users the ability would inevitabley degenerate into polls of shoe sizes and even less meaningful drivel.Well some Polls can suck bad but that reason would be that some Users could abuse them a bit.
Like silly Polls or Pointless Polls. Or Topics that could certainly of done without the Poll.
But sometimes you get very Interesting Polls
I suggested something like anybody should be allowed one poll per e.g. 1000 posts. You can a good Point there Thomas. Something like that. I would prefer 1 Poll ever 100 posts, then we wont get any pointless/useless polls from some users.

-
This forum is great and the best in the world even that we Cannot create Polls like lots of other forums allow.
The advantage of Polls is that when you ask a Question like...
Favourite Atari 2600 Model?
or
WHos Better? ACTIVISION or IMAGIC ?
or SEGA vs NINTENDO
etc,etc,etc.
Those questions have to be asked out without Polls and so many dont have to replie or when ppl do replie you have to read about 5 pages worth.
And it saves a lot of time and you get more response if you simply vote on a Poll instead or having to reply to a topic just to say err YES or NO or ACTIVISION or IMAGIC. Some ppl would Vote and if they had a good reason why that voted so they can reply too.
Oh well..
Maybe this may happen soon in the not too long Future....

Wow! I really liked it!.

Its about time I upgraded my Stella version !
Its now hard to tell which is better Stella or Z26 ?
But I noticed pressing F9 and F11 is your Save States.
And the way that may the Space Bar as your fire Button was a good idea.
Well done to the Stella Team!

-
Wow!Downloading...
Ive always been more keen on Z26 than Stella. But if I can now play Pitfall 2 with sound and not to mention the Save States functions it will be great !..
I saw a Screenshot of Supercharger Frogger or something.
That isnt Atari 2600 surely...
Does Stella Emulation another system besides Atari 2600 ?

Yeah, there are some modern games with that "quick-play Atari" style. Like the fast-paced battles in Final Fantasy 7 or 9, gathering honeycombs in Banjo-Kazooie, and first-person shooters. It's just that today, there are too many games trying to use special effects to sell themselves instead of fun.Older games couldn't substitute effects for fun, because effects were virtually non-existent.
Thats right!.. These days playing a modern game is just like watching a movie with control too it.
I cant say Im gonna have a quick 5 min blast at Half-Life or Thief 2 or something. Becuase your 5 mins you will still be playing the Introductions.
But Atari 2600 Games. U immediately go straight to the action.
And todays Games? What happened to the Score that used to occupy the top or bottom of the screen continously?

-
I was at my Friend's friends house and I was watching 2 of his friends playing Space Invaders simousately.I was amazed just by watching as this the first time I had seen Video Game Home entertainment...

-
Then you should have picked a more efficient codec. But still, it can't have come as a surprise to you that video files are big.I wouldnt know anything about selecting a Codec or w/e. All I do know is that AtariwinPlus saves your recordings full-on uncompressed.
It isnt good.

-
Mind Master and Theaveng seem just like I go thur these days.
When your not on the internet or W/E
You can play a good modern game which probably take you half a day to enjoy
Or you can have a quick blast an a Atari 2600 Game and have the full-on enjoyment for 5 or so minutes.
I guess that the great magic Atari 2600 has got !
I used to have 35 cartridges when I had an Atari 2600. Wasnt I continuously swapping cartridge every 5-15 mins and having the fun of my life!

Space Invaders---8-B---------3920

Thats one cool thing about no Snapshot function. You can't cheat in Atari 2600 Games!

Last year I didnt bother about Atari 2600 Nostigia because theres so many Atari 2600 screenshots around the web and it put me off those memorys.
It looks like you've seen the screenshot and then you've seen it all!
But Lately after discovering Atari 2600 Emulation.
I found those are perfect for the "Quick 5 mins Nostigia" thing.
Those days you pay for the Game.
And these days your paying for the Speical Effects/Audio more than the game.
Gee! Games have changed so much in the last 23 Years !

-
UT Comes with its own Build Engine so you modify the maps or make ones from scratch! Its give easy as soon as you find time to have a go at UnrealED.
I can make my own maps, graphics, and Sounds.

But cant yet make me own actor Models yet...

-
The ability to make an AVI would be nice too, though likely much more complex. I was impressed that Atari800Win Plus had this option.
And do you know how much Hard Drive Space its takes !I tried it and 350MB was gone within 5 seconds !

Victoria's hard on her joysticks! Killing your original Atari sticks in 3 months is incredible. Did you pound them on the floor? (just curious) My own joysticks lasted about 4 years until the white inner plastic experienced stress-failure.Mine experienced stress failure. The white plastic inside them broke and Ill tried to fix em. Super-Glue worked for a while but I eventually gave up and brought Quik-Shot I joysticks.
They were stronger but I when thur about 10 of those but they had a longer life and they were still my favourite joysticks.
-
@Victoria:We don't have a save state function in z26 yet. It's a good suggestion though. But since we aren't fully done with porting the code to Windows,
and the internal structure of the emulator still changes a bit all the time, we'll probably put it in the lower part of our to-do list.
Well im happy its planned for the future because we can find put some of those old Atari 2600's mystery games to rest.
But other than that. Z26 is virtually plays and looks like the real thing!...
Even the sound emulation is near pefect!
Im gonna hook my PC to a real Television set and play Atari 2600 Games with Z26 and it would almost surely feel 100% like the real thing! Expect ill be using the keyboard.

Can't get to Atari 400/800 Basic using an Emulator :(
