    Thanks for posting that link Max, great video. The songs not too bad either and fits it's genre well. Oh before I forget, welcome to Atariage.

     

    I think you're genuine and not a troll, certain members should chill out and then re-read their own posts before labelling someone a Troll! Not a good example to new users on the forums is it! Perhaps Max in future smashing up Commodore equipment might be the way to go.

    Well after some patients and a bit of elbow grease, we have some success!

     

    The only camera at hand was my mobile phone, so excuse the quality.

    These screws were pretty corroded, rust had filled the + on the screw head. I used a small flat blade screwdriver and hammered a little using the pliers. Once the screwdriver had a bite, I used the pliers to help turn the screwdriver. Took a few attempts but I got there in the end.

    I didn't end up using the Philips, small flat blade and pliers.

     

    Here she is naked ;) A lot of corrosion but nothing too bad.

    Found numerous dead spiders, woodlice, a few insect egg nests and some cigar ash? Still trying to figure where that could have come from. I'm going to get some Servisol that should help get the switches in top condition and return the aluminium back to a nice shine with the help of some scotch guard pan scrubbers. Nothing major to take care of inside, just a few little bits to tidy up and a replacement of the regulator and caps wont hurt.

    I'm going to try some 'back to black' I don't know if you guys in the states have that. It's bumper restorer which I think will help restore the black on the Vader case. I will of course put some pics up when the job is done.

    Yup, drill 'em out. Just make sure not to go below the plastic on the bottom half of the case. You'll want to have some threads left in there. You don't necessarily need a Dremel, as any drill that can accept a small bit will do. If you can make a bit of a hole in the screw head, and Easy Out tool might be able to extract the screws. It screws in backwards and when it gets deep enough it begins to turn the screw out of the hole.

     

    At some point you will have to open the unit anyway. Switches come loose and solder joints crack over time.

     

     

    Good points there mate, Easy out tool isn't something I'm familiar with. I'm going to try long nose pliers first that usually helps in cracking the threads, then I might be able to use a flat blade screwdriver to then retract the screws. Like you said, she isn't going to run forever and switches and dry joints happen. We'll see what happens I will keep you all posted and if someone has a solution I'm listening. BTW thanks for all the help so far, it's appreciated.

    If it works, Why risk breaking it?

     

    Just sell it now, and get one that has screws that will un-screw for 20 bucks. :P

     

    This machine is one of my originals, I had this one in '84 which I passed on to one of my nephews, now he's grown up and returned it knowing that I still play Atari. So I want to get this beast back in mint condition (which I know I can do), I guess it's a personal thing, so like I said before, Dremmel will be the final solution! Oooer I sound all evil.

     

    I will take pics, however my camera is my mobile so don't expect fantastic pics!

    Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me out with this one. I've been given a Vader, which has unfortunately been stored in moist conditions :roll: She works perfectly, thing is I want to go inside and make sure everything is 100%

     

    Here's where the problem starts, the four screws underneath have corroded so badly I've only been able to extract one. The screw heads have basically turned into nothing, i.e. the screw + on the head no longer exists :x So any ideas how to get these suckers out without causing too much destruction would be greatly appreciated.

    I know what you mean with kids etc. when my three stay over every other weekend, they are just too curious about why I lock all my stuff away.

     

    I bought them a second hand PS1 to just to keep 'em quiet, no surprise that it only lived for 48 hours before they killed it.

     

    Sadly I don't have an Atari room, just a lockable cupboard under my stairs...

    Just before Christmas I packed up all my Atari stuff, I'm getting to the stage were I constantly fear breakage, I know that Atari's and the carts are pretty robust, and I know this is just a phase lol.

     

    Do you ever get paranoid/protective about your Atari stuff?

    I doubt Cameron could exude much influence in the 2-3 hours Soderberg spent making this film... :lol:

     

    Bwahahaha I like that, that was good.

     

    JC's ok in my book, at least he did us all a favour and didn't do T3, I read some stuff on AICN about Jimbo being a major pain in the ass all the way through the shoot of Solaris.

    Most of that I already know, just that I get really :x because there's all these different standards, it was just a bit of "what if".

     

    There's so many cool games that I would love to get, but I get put off because they're not PAL.

     

    And I hope that my post didn't come across as making it all sound trivial, full respect goes out to those who developed the games, and uber respect goes out to those who still develop and hack.
