annnnd colecoboxart.com comes through AGAIN with just adding a scan of Moonsweeper! Yes!
-
And finally onto an Imagic cart. Nova Blast is available on Thecoverproject.net and was one of the first covers I printed. Imagic carts, however, are a little longer than Coleco manufactured carts, and do not fit into an UNMODIFIED case. However, even when they are loose in the case, there is little slippage, and I find it a better answer than having loose carts floating about. My remaining loose carts are Moonsweeper by Imagic (combining the Nova Blast CV UGC with art extracted from a 2600 box is a fun challenge), Gates of Apshai by Epyx, Star Trek Strategic Operations Simulator (The Coleco boxart is some of the best Star Trek box art, but I can't find a decent high res, non-watermarked scan to use for it. I dislike the Sega boxart, but it will look OK next to Congo Bongo if I have to go that route), Frogger, Gorf, Tutankham and Super Action Baseball. Anyone in the community have a decent Baseball Boxart they've done? With a little effort, this is a great way to plus your collection.

Next up was Miner 2049'er using scans of the boxart applied to the UGC proportions on a template. The Microvision cart also fits snugly, horizontally in the case. I'm a fan of the original North American Colecovision boxart featuring the Game Cabinet on the front. Unfortunately (for me at least) for later releases Coleco moved away from this style. For Congo Bongo I repurposed a 2600 UGC Cover, and an NES Spy Hunter Cover. Not perfect, but this is for my own collection & I'm not about to try to pawn these off on anyone.

So the real move behind this project was me starting to collect loose Carts for my collection, and a desire to have them look nice. Now, some of what I have to share some will cry foul on, but hey, they do look nice. I started with my Atarisoft titles; Centipede, Defender & Galaxian. IMHO the original Atarisoft orange boxart is downright fugly. So I took the 5200 UGC covers available on Thecoverproject.net and did a little retouching for a Coleco collection. The screenshots on the rear are the Coleco screens. The Atarisoft titles also fit snugly when put in horizontally in the case.

Awhile back this thread... http://www.atariage....-for-old-games/ was discussing the ins & outs of using UGC's (Universal Game Cases) to store loose Colecovision titles. So after much hemming & hawing and generally wasting time I finally took the plunge into UGC land and thought I'd share some of the results with the community: First up, your friend and mine "Donkey Kong." On the left is the cart in the UGC with a label from ColecovisionBoxart.com, on the right is the excellent repro box by Phatboombatty for comparison. Also attached is the rear of the box, and the interior of the UGC showing an UNMODIFIED UGC snugly holding a Coleco Brand cart. (more on other publishers in the next posts._

Once I got the controls down I didn't think it was that hard, just boring. And confusing.

I'm wondering about the decision not to do an Ebook? I've been toying around with a project for some time now and was strongly considering Ebook instead of "traditional" publishing. Is it because you feel the book is so graphic intensive that an Ebook isn't a good fit? I'm really interested because I may have some similar issues with my project.

I played DarXide on an Emulator and was expecting a lot.. more. The Hype around the game had me anticipating a very different experience. Is there anything else to it besides basically being 3D Asteroids? Web of Fire is very meh in my opinion. Again not worth the crazy prices people are offering for a CIB copy for a game that just isn't very good (IMHO).

I didn't know anyone was making DarXide repro's. Do you have a line on this?

So back in the day ('95 I think, maybe '96) I picked up a copy of then new Metal Head, ran home and tossed it into my 32X. It then promptly failed to start and the next day I exchanged the cart for another and was soon on my way with unique pleasure of 32X Mecha action. Cut to 2010. I put my copy of Metal Head in and it fails to start. I clean the contacts, all seems well, it just won't start. Black Screen, no Sega logo. All of my other 32X games start with no problem. So I pick up my 3rd copy on eBay and back to Metal Head we go. So what is the deal with this title? Is it just me or does this cart die more often than others?

I do have a T-Mek & a Primal Rage. (IMHO T-Mek on 32X is pretty good.)

Super Macho Man, no left hooks, play with the controller upside down- oh wait. Best. Reply. Ever.

So I'm toying with the idea of replacing my 32X Cardboard Cart Boxes with UGC's. I have a nice collection of 32X titles, and the boxes are just falling apart or crushed. Should I toss the old boxes? Flatten and keep 'em? I dunno... I wish that the plastic boxes existed like they do for my copy of NBA Jam...

SSX is where I am right now. Loved "Tricky" on the PS2, and this game is seriously crazy/fun. I didn't think the online/RiderNet would be any good, but it is surprisingly addicting.

I remember tuning my TV Color so my copy of Donkey Kong would look "right" back in the day. Only problem was when you went back to watch broadcast TV and everyone was orange.
-
I second that. Both Slither and Super Action Baseball need these boxes!
-
No problems with 4 Player Slime World. Man, those were the days...
-
Just got my Turbo and Donkey Kong Boxes in the mail.. They are AWESOME. Turbo has wanted a box since back in the day. It will be a happy Cart now. Now I have to decide which DK Cart gets to live in the box. Decisions decisions...

Steve Jobs was full of it then as he is now..
LynxVGL replied to Keatah's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Read the Steve Jobs biography for the details. Apple II was the bread & butter at Apple until the Mac comes along. Even in '84 the Mac has problems internally at Apple about splitting sales of platforms and OS. -
MIdway Arcade Treasures 2 for the PS2 (and #3 with the racing games) has some problems with the Emulation being over clocked. The Atari Fighting Games (Primal Rage & Pit Fighter) are unplayable in my opinion. It destroys STUN Runner on the 3rd disk, which was the entire point for me picking it up. I don't know about the Xbox or 'Cube versions. Was VERY disappointed in Digital Eclipse and what happened to some of the titles.

Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters is a game that needs to see the light of day on ANY system. I'm more than annoyed this wacky later Atari Coin Op hasn't gotten it's due.

Another vote here. I loved Mad Planets back in the Arcades. As far as I can tell, no port exists of this game. Is it even playable on MAME?

I almost bit and picked up a 5200 for my collection this year. I was an Atari 8bit computer fan as a kid, and wanted to get new hardware to play some of my favorites (Star Raiders, Fractalus, Ballblazer to name a few). After doing the research on the system, I decided to pass precisely because of the controller upkeep/maintenance/replacement issues. My original Colecovision still is pounding away, and I've never had to replace my controllers. So now for those great 8bit Atari games I'm searching for an XEGS or XL model. I totally respect modern 5200 owners, for their dedication to keep their systems up and running. I just don't have that kind of time to tinker with my consoles to keep them up and running.

Intellivision Classic Games PS1 question
LynxVGL replied to atari2600land's topic in Classic Console Discussion
One disc. I was stupid enough to buy this looking for a better and better implementation of the InTV controller. No such luck. I had it on the 'Cube and the PS. I understand there is an iPad app which FINALLY has the controller dealt with appropriately. Meaning you can actually play the games.
