What? Geez, I really like Superman.... Way better than either Pacman 2600 or E.T.... Ok, trainwreck is a little of an over statement. I don't like the screen navigation in Superman. Going off diagonally can get weird. Graphically it's a step up on Adventure, but the limits that Adventure and later Haunted House put on you I think help in these early adventure games. ET has a little of that as you move about as well, but Superman flying moves so much faster than Eliot plodding along makes Supermans navigation feel sloppy in comparison. (IMHO).

Did you see this? http://www.1up.com/features/ten-most-useless-consoles 1Up lists the Lynx in one of those hideous "worst" console lists. I don't think I have ever seen the Lynx on a list like this. I was shocked.

My two cents is ET as well. Pac Man hurts my eyes with the constant flicker and hurts my ears with the sounds. I also never had a problem with ET as a kid. Not as elegant as Adventure, but no where the train wreck of Superman.

This is such a fun thread to read. I love the enthusiasm everyone has for this project. I really hope it comes together.

Defender Stargate need some help with Inviso
LynxVGL replied to Bountybob's topic in Arcade and Pinball
When using Inviso, you can still "see" your ships thrust. Use that to determine where you are and ram enemies. I believe with Inviso on, you are invincible. Is Hyperspace redundant when you have Inviso remaining ? You have infinite Hyperspace usage, Inviso is limited. Next to the Ship count, & smart bomb display is a line for Inviso. It depletes as it is used. I've never liked hyperspace that much. It's a gamble in Defender, but in Stargate there are SO many more enemies at one time I feel like I always appear on top of an enemy and explode using Hyperspace. -
Would a Community funding site like Kickstarter be a good place to start seeding a project like this?

Anyone stumble upon a working F-15 Strike Eagle or BOTSS (Battle of the Solar System) Machines? These machines are exceedingly rare (or so I'm told) and I haven't seen one, or their ROMS for MAME either. We can always use more flat-shaded polygon goodness.

Open Letter to all Coleco Progammers and progammers in general
LynxVGL replied to 65Gamerguy's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Also a shout out to you, 65Gamerguy, and your EXCELLENT Colecovision YouTube Channel. -
Thanks for the info folks. The RF out info is important. For me, it is less about Classic Computing and more about a few Classic Titles. I need a dedicated "Star Raiders" "Ballblazer" and "Rescue on Fractalus" machine. For me, emu's don't cut it. Thanks again!

My first PC was an 800 and I dearly loved it. Recently I've been toying with the idea of picking up an 8Bit machine and am waffling back and forth between an XEGS or a Computer. I know the XEGS is basically a repackaged 65XE. Looking back through the lens of time, and with the eye toward what enthusiats have found, which hardware solution is better right not? WHen I do eBay crawls, the price point usually hangs right around the same level. Thoughts?

Two more superior 5200 Only (ish). Ballblazer (though it did appear on the 7800 and (shudder) the NES). Rescue on Fractalus. (8 Bit Atari Computers as well). You won't be sorry.

So I have my Colecovision, NES, PS2, Genesis/Sega CD/32X using the same power bar, but I never leave any of them plugged in. On my other gaming rig, my PS2 and Wii are plugged in all the time. Is it a good plan to keep my retro's unplugged until needed? The power strip is surge surpressed, but I don't want to cook the transformers. Thoughts? What are the best strategies to NOT fry the power supply? Or with the age of them, is it an inevitibility?

Wow. Thanks for the great link too!

Just go my loose copy of Defender in the mail and through it in my CV. Another above average Arcade port by Atarisoft BUT.... since I got mine loose with no manual, silly question: Is Hyperspace implemented in this version? I can't seem to get it to work with any keypad press. Do you have to fly beneath the landscape ala the 2600 version of the smartbomb? Admittedly this was on my first play through (bout a half hour) and I do know that my SAC controller is a little wonky. I'm going to try it with a standard CV controller after I mow the lawn (groan) but it also seems there is a weird lag thing happening when I change direction (left to right and right to left) and the player ship doesn't seem to want to thrust until the screen updates the postion. This has been a great summer for me to pick up loose titles to add to my collection. Started with the standard loose ones (DK, Turbo and SAC Baseball) and my copies of Moonsweeper and Nova Blast that I lost the boxes for eons ago. After 3 months of avid eBay raiding, I'm up to 17 loose carts really nicely rounding out my collection. As per usual, thanks for the info folks.

Ozma Wars posted on another thread about a dream of "Rescue on Fractalus" on the CV. Wow. That got me thinking. "Fractalus" and "Ballblazer" are among my top 8-bit games of all time ("MULE" too). Could the Colecovision hardware handle these titles? "Ballblazer" has super fast scrolling and a top of sprite scaling. And then there is the whole fractal generating landscape in "Fractalus". Let's not talk about RAM/ROM limitations, but could the hardware handle ports of these titles? I bet a great version of "Maniac Mansion" could be in the offing.... Ah... to dream.

+1 on a decent Reactor Port. Surprised Parker Bros. didn't do this.

Any hope of publishing that Turbo box, retro? THAT is the box I want my copy of Turbo to live in.

I think this art is Sega Promotional Art they used for Zaxxon back in the day. I remember seeing it in other gaming magazines of the time. Just not in glorious poster size.

Thanks for the info. Glad to know I have both versions. Are there other carts that exist in a fat and cut version?
-
I have two DK carts, one being from my original CV, and one from my second unit. The second copy of DK has a label that is different and adds the "For Colecovision and ADAM Computer" tag that is prevalent on later carts. Are there any differences in the ROMS? Or is it just the label? I've been following the discussion about DKA that Opcode is working on and there is the ongoing discussion about the differences in the Arcade versions. Did Coleco rev. their software as well over the lifespan of the console? (I know it's a slim chance.)

What are the real numbers for Space Invaders Collection? Are they long gone too?

What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?
LynxVGL replied to Ross PK's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
