  1. This is a friendly place and most of us here like to help people that have questions

However ( and it is a big however )

LynxVGL reading posting like yours over and over again gets Damn old to those of us that have been on the ColecoVision forums for a considerable period of time...or people that are serious about collecting for the ColecoVision and actually plan to stick around. If 4 or 5 people asked beat to death questions a day...the forums would turn into a waste of time and the whole interest in the ColecoVision scene would be compromised.

I am convinced that we need a tutorial pinned on how to do a search. Threads that are the same shit beat to death need to be deleted, and a message sent to the OP telling them to use the search function.

Something that seems to be a problem here in this forum is people want to be lazy, type some BS question or 2 and then disappear. Basically be selfish gather data without contributing anything.

If I am contacted about the HSC moderator position, I am going to request that it be over the whole ColecoVision sub-forum and delete some of the non-sense and send PMs and warnings to people.

I appreciate your points. I really do. Next time I'll refine my search criteria better.

  2. I bumped a topic with your answer since you are the second person in a week to ask for this list without even doing a search.

Sorry a little grouchy this morning.

Thanks for the topic bump. When I looked through the forum I missed it. And I did a search with evidently the wrong criteria since it only returned 2600 results.

  3. Where is the best list of carts with a rarity guide for Colecovision? The FAQ over at GameFaqs is a little dated. My list of wanted carts is getting smaller, but I want a good idea what the rarity really is before I bid.

I recently dove back into my Colecovision and have been picking up a lot of loose carts that I missed on their original release back in the 80's (Galaxians, Gorf, Gateway to Apshai, Miner 2049'er, Star Trek, Tutankham, Frogger and Congo Bongo). I know a couple left on my list are hard to come by (Spy Hunter) and have no real good idea what to do about some titles like Pac Man & Space Invaders Collections from OpCode.

    Thanks!

  4. The Alien in Rescue on Fractalus

According to head developer David Fox, this shock moment made Rescue on Fractalus! "the first [computer] game to really scare people

I second that. First time that Alien appeared when I played Fractalus I dropped my controller! And then the tension from there on out of landing to rescue a pilot and not... knowing... until... the... very... last... moment.... if it was a human or Jaggi.

    Great 8-bit times.

  5. I'm in this rut, too. So much to play, but so limited time to do it.

I think Austin's recommendation to pick a game and stick with it is a good idea. (+1'd).

That's one of the reasons I'm on my Colecovision kick lately. Most of the 80's era 2600/5200/CV/INTV games are great because they are pick up and play. Play for a bit, and move on. Between my family and work, I have what feels like 0 free time. If I'm going to dedicate some quality retro-gaming time, right now I don't want to get stuck in 40+ hour RPG. (even though I love them,) My PS1 & PS2 Collections feature far too many unfinished RPG's.

I want to take some time to dedicate to Snatcher for Sega CD. Glad summer is finally here.

  6. By portable electronic games i am talking more like the tabletop games like astro wars, scramble, jetfighter, space invaders 1000/10000 etc as well as the various iterations of coin op games re-imaged in tabletop format (complete with coin op fascia's in most cases), rather then game watches (like the nintendo ones and similar) seeming as though the tabletop (as well as the game watches) market basically died out in the mid 80's

You can see a similarity between the portable/electronic gaming market (i.e lynx/gb/gba/gg/nomad/turbo express etc) and the previous tabletop/game watches market and the similarities with the programable gaming systems (i.e vcs, channel f/ves etc) and the previous dedicated single gaming systems market (i.e pong, video pinball/stunt cycle, telstar etc)

In that the tabletop/game watches market is somewhat likened to the dedicated single gaming systems market (i.e systems that could only play one game or one type of game) and the later portable electronic gaming market (i.e the lynx/gb/gg etc) is somewhat likened to the programable gaming systems market (I.E VES/Vcs Coleco etc etc)

I.e a typical lynx/gb/gg or turbo express cartridge game was the equivalent of buying something like a space invaders 1000/10000 or astro wars tabletop but in condensed form and not forgetting that the lynx/gg/gb/turbo express etc were technically table top electronic games

so the question is , did the lynx (and it's competitors) revive interest in the portable electronic gaming market, since that particular market had 'died' a few years earlier

I think the Gameboy and the Lynx were outgrowths of where Console Gaming and tech in general was in 1989. The original LCD watch style and LED games were dedicated systems, much like the first console systems were dedicated systems. I think Nintendo & Atari (and later Sega and NEC) saw this as the logical growth of the console market.

If a handheld is going to get credit for getting interest up, I would have to say that it was the Gameboy, and not the Lynx. This mainly due to Nintendo's marketing muscle in 89-90 more than anything else.

  7. So I've loved my Lynx since I picked it up back in the day. (Summer of 91 I think...) Anyway.. I dug it out the other day to show my son how it was WAY cooler than his DS, and to my shock and surprise my external power supply seems to be dead.

Any ideas on getting a replacement? Can I use a generic Radio Shack power supply as long as the voltage and polarity of the plug is okay? When I search eBay I find systems, but never power supplies.

    Ideas?

  8. So I recently scored a loose Galaxians. I've read and seen reviews, and was anxiously awaiting its arrival. Wow. I agree, this is the best 2nd Gen Console port of the game. Are the other Atarisoft titles as good? I want to pick up Defender because I've always wondered how it plays with the "cheat" for programming the fast scrolling of the game. When I finally get around to getting a Roller Controller, I want Centipede for it too.

So, did Atari keep up the ridiculously good porting for their other titles? I'm not a big Jungle Hunt fan, and I know that one is usually expensive due to rarity.

I don't play on an emulator, so finding carts is my preference.

  9. One thing that pisses me off is that there where 100 made, not 50. This copy has been on Ebay for awhile, it used to have a huge BIN.

Hopefully before people bid a small fortune on this they will google "mario bros. colecovision" without the quotes, and get the facts.

Was this the one with the $900 BIN? That was so ridiculous I never tracked it.

  10. At least! This one seems to be in high demand and very short supply. I wish I had the cash to throw a hat in that ring!

Best of luck on your sale!

No worries, I'm planning to make another short run soon ;)

I'll use the "green" boxes this time :)

Maybe it shouldn't be such a "short" run afterall. :) Getting back into the Coleco Gaming scene and would LUV this cart.

    dear Sirs

have something similar suitable to Atari 2600 - 7800 - Colecovision game cartridges ?

    THIS THE REPLY I GOT

BUT IF YOU SAY THAT IT'S OK...OK FOR ME, I WILL DO A TRIAL ORDER

I haven't gotten any yet. Hold off before you dump $50 or $60 into this project. Let me do a little more research.

  12. So 2600 carts fit after hacking at the case? Pretty lame to have to cut at a new case that is supposedly universal. The company should have just made a mold that could be changed for making cases for each system individually.

It's my understanding that they fit okay unmodified, but they slop around a little. Snapping the clip makes them fit tight. I think they have to fit pretty good otherwise there wouldn't be a ton of 2600 UGC inserts over at The Cover Project. And there are a TON of them.

The reason I asked for a picture of a ColecoVision cart inserted into a UGC is that I couldn't find one with Google. I thought if you had some UGCs and a ColecoVision cart, you could snap a pic and post it.

This is a sample of the CBS Zaxxon release insert for a UGC.

  14. hi there

as collector I am really tired to collect games whose boxes always have some defect due to age, sun, postage or else...

would like to fit them all, with new covers, in new VHS holders but this not the best solution and now also VHS cases no more easy to find.

    I see this :

    http://www.mediashelving.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=W&Product_Code=USCG

have any idea if they also fit Atari 2600-7800-Colecovision carts ?

thanks for reply and sorry if same argument already discussed in the past.

    Any suggest welcome. Thanks.

    Max

You should change the topic spelling it is UGC not UCG.

Something that I am curious about is whether or not there is much interest in generic cases for cart storage and if so, what about an artwork insert?

As mentioned in another thread there is a database for storing and downloading these artwork box inserts. However all or most are CBS and not the US releases. Would the members of the ColecoVision community be interested in scanning, resizing and cleaning up the scans so they look nice and building a collection to use with UGCs?

I think the lack of inserts greatly reduces interest... on the other hand if a complete or near complete set of artwork inserts was available, or at least being worked on, the interest might be a lot higher.

I am not sure if I am all that interested in what is basically a fake case, with fake artwork....however having between 55 and 60 of the original US ColecoVision releases it might be cool to use UGCs with art inserts as fillers until I acquire the real CIB. Also since Turbo, Baseball and Slither don't have boxes a UGC with an art insert would be nice for rounding out a CIB collection.

Anybody care to comment and/or interested in working together on an artwork insert collection?

They work great for 2600, 7800, INTV, and Sega Carts. I don't know about 5200 Carts. To house NES carts you need to trim off a tab in the UGC. And needless to say CV carts. ;>

I have a good collection of original US Boxes, and a good chunk of loose. I plan on using existing online art, and creating new for my missing boxes. High Res Scans of Original Boxes would be great. When done properly, the UGC boxes read like classic plastic Sega Genesis Boxes.

I was playing with my 2010 box to get it to scan, but to do it properly I'll have to cut the glue on the bottom, so the box can be flattened for best scanning. I'm torn on this. My boxes all have torn tops, but cutting the bottoms will pretty much zero any value in them.

This thought process started with me to do something for my loose original carts, like DK, Turbo and SAC Baseball. I have lost my Imagic boxes (NUTS!) for Moonsweeper and Nova Blast. As listed in my other thread, I've been buying loose CV carts and this is the logical (for me) progression for storing and display. My plan was to do it for my Sega 32X boxes as well, because the Sega Cardboard boxes never were very good (IMHO).

    Would love scans of:

    Star Trek

    Tutankham

    Gateway to Apshai

    all the Atarisoft Titles

    all the Imagic Titles

    Gorf

    Frogger

and Spy Hunter (I'll get a SPy Hunter eventually.... eventually... LOL)

  15. The Cover Project (www.thecoverproject.net) is an online database of game box art remade for printing new DVD cases (for current gen systems) and UGC's for Old systems. Check it out.

Do ColecoVision carts fit properly in the UGCs? A picture of a ColecoVision cart seated in a UGC would be appreciated if you get a chance to post one.

If the carts fit well in these cases, I think it might be a nice alternative for homebrews.

The only carts that don't fit (or I'm told) is NES games. A minor mod to the case lets NES carts fit snuggly. Pics to come.

  17.

$20 for a Galaxian loose cart is a heck of a great deal.

Something is probably broken with the joystick and not repairable. The fire buttons can be dissembled and cleaned and put back together.

What is UGC's ? What is The Cover Project?

UGC's are Universal Game Cases. Plastic Cases that let you print a new label to store carts. Kinda like what carts used to be in at Blockbuster.

  18. Hi all. Been on a retro kick lately and got my CV up and running and enjoying some great Carts. I've had my CV since release and it has been a ball recently getting "new" carts for it. So I troll eBay looking for title to add to and complete my collection.

    Recently I've added these classics:

    Gorf

    Gateway to Apshai

    Miner 2049'er

    Star Trek (AT LAST)

    Tutankham

    and Frogger.

Most I've been trying to keep under $10 in the purchase price, loose.

Today I bit the bullet on a loose Galaxian for $19.99.

I prefer to play with my SAC controllers instead of the normal ones. My CV came with white ADAM Controllers. WHen I pulled my SAC's out of storage, I found one doesn't have functionality in the buttons, and one joystick is sloppy to say the least. My question is how hard is it to repair SAC controllers?

Also, I keep toying with bidding on a roller controller, so I can add Centipede and Omega Race to the collection, thoughts?

This summer I plan on making covers and using UGC's for my new loose carts, it bugs me that over a The Cover Project most of the box art is from CBS European games and not the US releases, any hints on some good sources. I want that great Star Trek box art for my loose cart badly. :)
