Back in the golden oldies 80's, I remember the careful choice I would make before selecting a Skill Level on a CV game. Out of the box with DK, I always thought that skill level #3 was "arcade" difficulty. Use skill level #1 to get familiar with controls and games, and then bump up to #3 for "Arcade Quality." I remember being cheesed that Parker Brothers Games seemed to go 1-6 instead of 1-8. Was "Star Wars Arcade" on #3 harder than the Arcade or the same?
What surprises me more though, is reading through threads and seeing how many people enjoy skill level #1, and don't make much noise about moving up to the "intended" skill level. "Mousetrap" for example, is VERY different with the birds for example. I assume the birds are in the Arcade (I only have seen "Mousetrap" in the arcades ONCE, and that was back in the 80's for s couple of weeks, and I was not a Pac Man/Clone fan back in the day).
Today, when I power up my CV, I still move up to #3 on the new games I add to my collection and the great originals.
What is your opinion on bridging the skill level gap?

I always wanted a copy of "Congo Bongo" back in the 80's and didn't score mine until last year. I think control is the biggest issue with this title. The 2nd level is full of cheap hits IMHO. It doesn't have a high rotation of being played in my collection now.

Noted, so the question now is, is it the most complete on home consoles in general then?
In the original 8-bit Era, I believe the Atari XEGS/computer line version of DK has all screens. The 7800 only had 3.

As we wander into MetalHead discussion, my only gripe with the game is the ad copy on the box that is false! Where exactly are the "bombed out farmland and scorched forests" in this game? I'll give them their interpretation of "war torn urban streets & bullet-riddled burbs." But forests and farmland? They can't possibly mean the opening slide show?

I love the early 3D flat-shaded polygon look so I'm glad I found another game.
Flat shaded polys rule. Texture mapping is over-rated.

Just reply here if you want to be on the reservation list

The website will be updated once the new batch is ready

Each game will cost you $50 + shipping
Bonus! I'm in for a Mario then.

Is it better to reply here or through the Collectorvision Website? Both LotD is marked as sold out on the Website for instance. Both Mario & Lotd would be great for my collection, but I need to know the final cost before confirming.

I also love my 32X. There definitely are title in the library that show the potential of the system, and the above mentioned market fragmentation that Sega seemed deeply in love with before '95 was the systems downfall. Remember that before the Saturn launched, Sega had plans for Mars, and Neptune too. (All in one Genesis/SCD and all in one Genesis/SCD/32X units) If Sega of America had gone on with this plan, they probably would never have survived to launch Dreamcast.
It goes back to developers the gamble they have to take on which platform to develop for. Both the SCD and the 32X show that developers in the early 90's were perplexed and wouldn't commit to fully develop for the Sega Add ons, and with todays development costs, there is even less of a chance of this happening.
Some are saying that the Xbox One and the PS4 may be the last Consoles (as we know them) to be unleashed on the public. Time will tell. The Kinect and the Wii Balance Board are the best examples of Add-on success (and Failure if you take in account the Playstation Eye) for the current gen.

I feel like Phantasy Star II was pretty close to launch (I could be mistaken). I remember it costing something ridiculous like $60 - $80 dollars but it was mind blowing.
A Phantasy Star title would be nice, but I have zero time for 16bit (or modern for that fact) RPG's anymore.

Sauron, as far as you does the 800 still work? No mention in the Auction posting about whether it works or not.

When I added my own Genesis to my collection back in the early 90's, I didn't get a pack-in title. I have a 2nd Generation model and have a nice collection of Genesis, 32X & SCD titles. For the past year I've been adding launch/early release titles to my cart collection.
Currently my launch/early release cart collection includes:
Altered Beast
Super Thunder Blade
Golden Axe
Ghostbusters
Super Ghouls & Ghosts (Goblins, whatever...)
Herzog Zwei
Sonic
What are other quality launch/early release titles that you can recommend? Alien Storm needs to be on my list soon too...

My kids really like MouseTrap too. I keep it on difficulty #1 or #2 max for them. The bird gets nasty fast.

I love the art style in these Epyx releases. It is so 80's and so very neon-crazy-cool.

Shark Attack by Apollo. Bad Pac Man rip off with the worst collision detection ever. Just try navigating the map without getting stuck. Blech.

I don't understand the spiral on Pitfall prices. I've been debating picking it up, but might go for a Sega CD version instead of the 32X version. I "Would" like it for 32X though...

Go here:
Nice article on creating iconic 2600 box art images.

I recently found a TV/VCR combo on Craigslist for ten dollars. I own the first three Indiana Jones movies on VHS and have refused to upgrade them to Blu-Ray because I don't want the fourth movie.
Kind of off topic but the BluRay upgrade for the Indy movies is totally worth it if your only option is VHS. Or hunt down the DVD box set on eBay that came out before Crystal Skull came out. Is there a widescreen version of Indy available on VHS?
I'm a retro gamer all the way, but for watching movies, don't stay 3 generations in the past. A great example is also the ALIEN bluray set. I could care less about Alien3 and Resurrection, but the Blu version of ALIEN and Aliens was totally worth it, plus it has the work print version of Alien3 which is a different movie than the release version. Do Indy a favor and upgrade. (The Blu Special features for Indy are great BTW.)

Check the link:
Cliff Spohn who did a lot of the original 2600 Boxart is getting the credit for the UK Movie Poster for the upcoming movie, "Computer Chess." Someone on here was looking for info on the original box art for the 2600 titles, and this may be another step in tracking Cliff down.
After re-reading the article, this is original art, and not the 2600 Chess Art. But they sure do share the same lineage.

Is it possible to compile a SCUMM game down to CV cart size? Yeah, I know Maniac Mansion was squeezed into a NES cart, but isn't this a little different? It would be another reason to think about investing in a SGM though.

My copy arrived in the mail yesterday. Yeah, the flicker can be a little annoying, and there is no Ferrari engine noise, but boy is this a good game!

I want to like the Genesis version, as it has great graphics, but the animation is so lurchy that I keep thinking the game is going to give me epilepsy. You want a really good home version, get a Sega Saturn and the Sega Ages disc.
I have the Sega Ages version for the PS2. I need to limit the actual number of Consoles I own, though a Saturn and a Dreamcast "would" be nice.

Well, it got better. After watching eBay all Summer, I scored a boxed copy for $10. Boxed, with instructions, still average in the mid $20's - mid $30's.

"Outrun" is one of my all time favorite racing games, and I'm always sad Sega never did a 32X version of this game (based on how good "Space Harrier" & "Afterburner" are on the 32X).
So I'm looking to add a copy of "Outrun" to my regular Genesis collection, and I notice that on Ebay, it lingers in the mid $20's for most auctions. Was the Genesis release a limited run or something?

Do you have a system you keep (hooked up) for three games or less?

I rarely take MULE out of my NES. Even with it available on the iPad now.
