  1. So I was digging through the forum looking for cohesive thoughts on alternative to the standard CV Controller and this is the consensus I have kind of reached: (A Bit of history: My CV Standard ADAM Grey Controllers work fine. Except for the toll they take on your hand. Space Fury = Pain. My SAC's are pretty much dead at this point...) Sega Genesis D-Pad (Great for one button games.) Atari 7800 Proline D-Pad (Great for two button games if you have the right Y-Adapter) Atari 7800 Joystick (No consensus based on the general hate for this controller) SAC (Love it or Leave It) Atari 2600 Joystick (Great for one button games.) I don't have any of the good ole' Atari Products anymore, and can't afford the wonderful new Arcade Controller that just shipped. What is the CURRENT feeling on alternative controllers? I'm leaning toward a 7800 Proline D-Pad but am confused by some of the posts. Is a Y-Cable really needed or can you use Controller 2 for game selection? Some say yes, some say no... Or is it better to get a Yurkie refurb Ball Joystick or a refurb or "new" eBay SAC. I'm in the minority but I kind of like the SAC's. (Mine have rotating joysticks and the triggers are not reliable at all anymore. I don't have the awesome time or patience or skill of many of the Retro Gang to open them up an rebuild them too.) Any other Controller Options that I'm missing?
  2. I have one of his terrific Turbo boxes. Perhaps the listing should mention that it's a Phattyboombatty box and not an original Coleco Box as well... Just sayin'.
  3. Late voting for a decent version of some great Gottleib arcade games: Reactor (with decent Music) and Roller Controller Support Mad Planets (would be great with the spinner on the SAC) Neither of these games (IMHO) get the love and attention they deserve. Qbert is stealing all the Gottlieb Video Game Attention of late (though he deserves the love too.)
  4. This caught my eye: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 281027815049 because of the price, and the "CIB". Looks like a repro box to me, since didn't Slither NOT ship with a box, like all of the pack in games? (Donkey Kong, SAC Baseball, Turbo)
  5. Added this classic to my collection today. Remember renting it back in '91(?) and thinking it was hard then. Whoa. Still hard today. I like how weapon selection can totally screw you over depending on what level you are on. Great game.
  6. I tend to agree. The 5200/8 Bit lines sprites are smaller than the 7800's, but most titles feel this way to me too. "Joust" for example as well.
  7. Penn & Tellers Smoke & Mirrors was never officially released, plus Desert Bus is only one part of the entire game. Desert Bus is 1/2 joke, and 1/2 social experiment. Cut it some slack.
  8. I think another improvement would be different rotation sprites for the Klingon Cruisers. Having the one rotation is the only failing of this great CV port. And no speech synthesis.
  9. I'm okay with loose, Niad. I've been having fun making UGC boxes for my loose carts. I've been toying with the idea of the Atarimax cart for awhile too... Between that, a Roller Controller, replacement SAC's and possibly a SGM, my wife isn't too pleased with the costs of my CV hobby.
  10. That's kind of my thoughts too. Maze games are not super high on my gaming list. Moustrap is different enough, and since it was a launch title I feel more confidant about that title than the others.
  11. I was also a typical 2600 user back in the 80's We upgraded to a Colecovision because it was "Next-Gen" before there was a next-gen console. The obvious improvement in graphics and sound sold us. "The Arcade Quality System" or so the tag was back in the day. I had an Atari 800, so a 5200 wasn't a discussion point. In the 21st Century, I enjoy collecting for it. When I pop in a cart that I never played back in the 80's and am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the game is always fun. When I started pursuing the Atarisoft games last year, each one made me smile to no end. What made the Colecovision great in 1983, continues to make it great in 2012.
  12. So I'm starting on a push on completing some of the missing titles in my collection. In general some of these are launch titles and some not so much. Please chime in on your opinions on some of these titles: Space Fury: Asteroids clone with some flicker issues. (eBay for $.99) Mousetrap: Should I hold out for a loose copy with an overlay or just go for a loose cart? I hear some comments on how slippery the control is on this title, thoughts? Frenzy: Need it. 'Nuff said. I'm on the fence about whether I should chase after a Pepper II, and a Lady Bug. Neither title looks particularly interesting to me at all. Imagic titles: I have both Nova Blast and Moonsweeper. I really would like to add Dragonfire to the collection as well. I played a little Wing War in emulation and have no real opinion on it. How much fun is it? Are the other CV Imagic titles any good? AtariSoft titles: I have Defender, Centipede, and Galaxians. How good of a port is Jungle Hunt? It's the rarest if the Atari titles, is it worth the prices? What about the protos of Joust, Dig Dug, Pac Man and Moon Patrol? Worth the pursuit or not? I'd prefer a Pac Man Collection and a Space Invaders Collection by Opcode instead... Let the debates begin!
  13. I missed a low eBay Auction for Dragonfire this week. Staring was $9.99 and it never sold! Seller has relisted at $45. Doh!
  14. Sector Alpha CIB. Loose Spy Hunter. Illusions CIB I need a Jungle Hunt to complete my AtariSoft titles. (Defender, Galaxian & Centipede already bagged.)
  15. PM me for a Quote, ok? I'm looking at the 3 carts, I mentioned. Does anyone know if the Sega CD Backup RAM Cart has a battery onboard as well?
  16. Yurkie have you done battery replacements? My soldering skills with PCB's are really poor. I've seen some online instructions but I'm wary of ruining my carts.
  17. Started playing "Shining in the Darkness" again last night, and really started to think about battery backups. I have a couple of carts with onboard batteries, when should I start to worry about them? "Starflight" "Shining in the Darkness" and "ShadowRun", I'm looking at you. All seem to play and save fine.... for now.
  18. I made a UGC Box for my copy of SAC Baseball. I used the Rocky SAC Box for the rear template, and modified an Intellivision MLB Baseball Cover for the cover art. I was going to upload them to TheCoverProject but haven't gotten around to it yet. If there is interest, I can upload them here this weekend.
  19. Can you shoot me a PM about this?
  20. I have yet to get it to work. Followed several online tutorials and nothing ever clears the Sega CD Boot Screen. Snatcher was done by friend on a PC using Toast.
  21. That was my point about "alternatives" for Sega CD. That's what my copy of Snatcher is. If there was an easier way for Macs to burn the ISO's I'd have a full Sega CD library. LOL
  22. I agree 100%. I tried Darxide & Spider Man on an emulator and was shocked at their quality. Especially after reading about them. Let's face it, Darxide is basically Asteroids 3D. And Web of Fire is not the best Spider Man game on the Genesis. Not by a long shot. I find my 32X to be a goofy machine that I really love. I have about 1/2 - 2/3 of the titles, but I don't think I'll ever score any more. Maybe a Pitfall if I can find one for cheap. And cheap being under $20. (Dream on I guess. ) I lucked out back in the 90's and lived in Chicago, and had good access to the games. My NBA Jam, T-Mek, & Primal Rage were store bought. I got Corpse Killer on a BlockBuster close out, and have added some of the other arcade ports off eBay. I think Night Trap cost me $20, and MKII was around the same. Sega CD titles seem to be a little more steady in their prices. But I will never pay $100 (or up) for a copy of Snatcher. Not when there are other "alternatives" to enjoying those Sega CD titles than buying a CIB copy.
  23. Nintendo has announced that there will be a way to move VC Titles and WiiWare over to a Wii U. They haven't said HOW yet. :/ If you send a Wii in for repair, Nintendo will transfer VC and WiiWare to a new unit for you however (Wii that is). You have to beg, scream, and make a huge deal about it though.
