Well, got my RFU Coax Switch & AC adapter annnnnd - the plug on the brick doesn't fit into the console! Grrrrrrr. It's way loose, on close inspection it appears the very tip is slightly smaller than the original. Stupid me, didn't pay attentino to that auction & thought I was getting an authentic Atari adapter. Sigh. I guess I could snip the plug off the defective original & re-wire it to the new brick but that seems stupid. I've got an email into the Seller, I'll see what he has to say before I do anything drastic. How do you typically know that parts are the right thing? Trial & error I suppose.

Probably much for the same reason PC gamers do it - for teh blingz! Here's one at a recent event I saw that was just insane:

Probably, there's always some poor schlub who hauls a 19-20" monster out. I don't have a decent one any more, switched to all LCDs years ago. At least one of the local LANs is held in a guy's office/conference room & I'd wager they have a TV around someplace. I ordered this set of items yesterday to take care of the input & power issues, so hopefully by this week I'll know if she fires up! I appreciate all the advice against modding this unit, I'll definitely shelf that idea for now. Thanks!

Interesting, good to know! I stopped at RadioShack the other night & grabbed a Coax adapter to see if it even has power from the damaged AC brick, but couldn't get any results. Is it safe to use a Universal adapter if all the power specs match, or am I better off to bite the bullet & order a $15 Authentic one from Ebay? The only real reason I was thinking about a monitor hook-up was to take it to one the LAN parties locally, where hauling a TV isn't really possible.

I haven't, but I guess there's nothing to lose eh? Although, having nothing to attach it to I won't know if the unit is even functioning. (Can't seem to find one of those pesky A/B splitters in any drawers.) I've seen a few fairly inexpensive adapters that will let me run it into the coax, might be worth a few bucks to see if I should throw any more at getting it modded.

Stumbled on a guy this weekend selling a box that had a 2600, some controllers & a bunch of carts so I picked it up on an impulse for $25. Not sure what I've got myself into, reading through here for a few days! I know the AC Adapter is pretty much useless, the cord is coming out of the brick & I'm not even going to try plugging it in, I see them on Ebay for $12-15 which I guess is fair. Then I'm looking at the mod boards to allow a connection via S-Video, etc. (Are there any ways to connect to an LCD monitor? Either VGA or DVI would be fine.) I don't pretend to have the experience to make my own board, so I'd likely buy one pre-fabbed and install with a little help from my brother who's good with a soldering iron. Here's a few pics of the haul:
