My guess is Major Havoc.

Wow - this sounds fantastic!! I'll be buying a couple for sure. Here's a question: Can you use the Driving Controller to play Tempest on MAME??? That would be awesome!!! If not, I know that it's a software issue and that MAME would have to be updated to support it. Great job to Joe, Albert, the staff at Pixels Past and everyone else involved in finally bringing a product like this to the mainstream!! It's much appreciated! Thanks,

Thank you everyone for your input. I just tried another game of SC with my stock controller and was able to clear all the stages in 3 continues (about 30 minutes). Only hit a couple snags in the tunnel with dropping mines and the maze. I do remember playing this ALOT when I was 12 so maybe some of that skill is still with me - who knows??? Anyway - glad to hear some people like this game as much as I do. My only complaint is that the game doesn't get any more difficult the 2nd time through the tunnel. Oh well... I should try to play with the redepemption controllers and see if I can make it through with NO continues!!! Thanks again,

First off - I must say I generally agree with the Video Game Critic. His site is awesome and I visit it often. With that said, I read this review: http://www.videogamecritic.net/5200sz.htm#Super_Cobra Seems pretty harsh to me. I love this game - great graphics, sound, and once you get used to it - the control is pretty good to. With my old controllers I was able to get through all the stages with about 10 continues; with my new gold rebuilt ones I was able to do it in 3 continues. Mind you - I've only played this game about 5 times since 1983. So what does everybody else think? Is this game really that *bad* or am I seeing this game through rose-colored 1983 glasses???

Hello all, I received my all-gold replacement CX-52 controllers in the mail yesterday. Right off the bat - I must say they look brand new! I tried them out on a few games last night and the difference is incredible!! I'll post a more in-depth review when I get more time. Back to the games!!!

I hate spam as much as anyone else, but I cannot see where this would be considered SPAM. I'd assume if you're ready an ATARI forum you would be interested in an ATARI related contribution. This guy isn't trying to sell us this video, is he? Can someone please enlighten me?

Hey Cassidy - one day won't kill anybody. And Happy Birthday!!! Can't wait for the cart!

What titles would help fill out the 5200 library?

Hello all, I recently installed the s-video upgrade for my 5200 from 8-bit domain. Sound and picture are great, however the opening music in Kangaroo seems distorted (as does the sound in Ms. Pac-man). All other sounds seem fine. Does this sound right? I turn the volume down low and it's still distorted. I'd like to know if maybe my soldering is a little off (I split the stereo jack into two RCA jacks) or if other people are experiencing this (either with the upgrade or with the RF connection). Thanks for any info!!! -
-
I had this same exact problem with my 5200. It has something to do with the RF connection because once I installed the 5200 s-video mod the sound (and picture) were perfect!! For 28 bucks, I HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Details! Details!! Don't leave me hanging!!!

Hello all, Now that I'm waiting for the CC2 for my 7800, I was wondering if there are any composite/svideo solutions for the 7800 out there? I have the Cybertech s-video upgrade for the 2600 (and the 8bitdomain s-video upgrade for the 5200), but haven't heard of anything similar for the 7800. I heard somewhere that you can upgrade the video for the 2600 mode of the 7800 using a 2600 mod - is this true? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

one PCMCIA memory card reader/writer: $23 one 32MB MMC card: $17.00 one Cuttle Cart 2: $200.00 being able to play all the 2600 and 7800 ROMS on a 7800 with one cart, with a sleek menu-driven interface and instruction manuals to boot: PRICELESS!!! (thanks Chad!!)

Chad, Just to be clear - I don't expect to be able to pay extra $$$ to have you dig up a POKEY chip, rip it out of a cart, etc. My question is if I pre-order a CC2 and send you a POKEY chip prior to the assembly of the CC2, would you put it in the socket so I can avoid opening it up (and possibly damaging it). Thanks,
-
Chad, Thank you so much for making a product like this available. I will definitely be pre-ordering one!! With that said, would you consider having people who pre-order send you Pokey chips to be inserted into the sockets before the carts are put together? I have an extra Ballblazer cart that I can rip open. I'm a little nervous about popping the CC2 open - breaking tabs, etc. and would like to avoid it if at all possible. Thanks again!!

Thank you all for your input. Since this is the only game I'll probably ever finish, I'm going to go with the sentimental pick and go for #2 (it's called Mountain Raider btw). Here's my big chance to show those fat cats down at Atari that they made a big mistake when they rejected my idea!!! Ahhhh - revenge is sweet... I'll be getting my web site up first with some pics/details etc in the next month. Stay tuned!!

You must get a 5200!! It's the coolest looking system around, and the stock controllers really do get a bad rap. With the gold-contact ones available from Best Electonics, you can avoid all of those issues that have plague an otherwise awesome game system for two decades. Join the revolution!!!!

Hello all, I've been dabbling in 2600 programming for a bit and I've started 4 games with my limited knowledge. Starting games is easy - finishing them almost impossible. With this in mind, I'm asking the community to take an informal poll and rank these game ideas in order of which one you would like to see finished. Of course, this is no promise it will be finished, but I'll give it my best shot... 1) Strategy action/adventure game based on the board game Dark Tower. Mostly strategy, turn-based up to 4 players. I want to incorporate some action into the battle scenes with the brigands. 2) Side-scrolling shooter where you land and kill creatures with your man. Think Scramble meets Berzerk. I actually submitted this game idea to Atari back in 81 - they rejected it unfortunately. I still have the game design though!! 3) A conversion of the arcade coin-op Mappy. 4) "Realsports Hockey". It's currently a vertical scroller. Thanks for any input!

RangerG - I did the mod and ran into one problem that I finally figured out. When inserting the GTIA chip into the 5200 video mod board, make sure it's the right way!! (the circle and square imprint on the chip matches the direction in the picture provided). I unfortunately put the chip in using the TEXT on the chip as a guide which a bad assumption on my part. Besides that, everything worked out great!! I am very impressed by the mod and it's ease to install. The pictures show *almost* everything you need to do!! Good luck!

Hello all - I'm doing some video mods to my 2600 and 5200 (the Cybertech and 8bitdomain ones, respectively) and I'm looking for a good place to get some electronic parts as my local Radio Shack doesn't seem to carry them anymore. Specifically, I'm looking for a panel-mount gold RCA video jack and a panel-mount gold S-video jack. Can anyone recommend a reputable/reasonable place in the CT/RI area or online? Thanks!!!

Hello all, I just got my 5200 vid mod in the mail and can't wait to hook it up. I had a few questions I was hoping someone out there could answer before I proceed... 1) does the 5200 produce stereo sound? If so, could the single stereo phono connector be replaced with 2 RCA jacks for stereo sound? Would this be as simple as soldering the red wire to a jack, white wire to the other jack, and ground to both? 2) the three leads coming off of the video mod are composite, luma and chroma. Could the luma and chroma be connected to a standard s-video jack for s-video? I know there are 4 pins - is it as simple as soldering the luma and chroma to pins 3 and 4 (top) and the common ground to pins 1 and 2? 3) here's the dumb question: I really want to test this tonight but I don't have the proper drill bit. Once a wire is put in the molex connector, can it be removed? If so, how? Thanks in advance!!! [/url]

Survey: First Atari, first game, best Game ever
johnnywc replied to starraider's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
1. What was your first Atari (or any other computer) and when did you get it? Atari 800, 1981 2. What was your first game? Missile Command & Star Raiders (in the Entertainer pack) 3. And the best game you ever played on the Atari? Montezuma's Revenge -
Hello all, I just received the CyberTech S-Video Card from Atari 2600 today and I plan on installing it tonight in a 4-switch model (can't wait!!)... Anyway, I had a few questions that I was hoping someone could answer: - the mod is for s-video. I have s-video on one TV, but only composite on the other. What is the best solution to be able to connect to both? - the cords supplied with the mod seem pretty short. I'm not against drilling holes in the case for jacks - has anyone done this? My ultimate solution would be to have 4 jacks on the back of the Atari: one for s-video, one for composite, and the two for l/r audio. Is there a proper way to "tie" the 4 leads of the s-video together to produce a proper composite signal? If so, is it "safe" to have both s-video and composite hook ups simultaneously? Thanks for any help!!

UPDATE: I figured out how to get the drive to be recognized - I insert the disk, turn on the drive, and then turn on the computer without holding down OPTION. At the READY prompt it now trys to load when I type LOAD "D1:SORCERER" Unfortunately, after about 10 seconds it starts beeping really slow and finally I get a message: ERROR - 144 AT LINE 0 Anyone know what this means? Is my disk hosed? I tried to load a few other files but with the same results... Thanks again!
