  1. Come on Tom - I'm sure you can at least drop a hint or two? Not much harm in knowing something exists, is there? Waddaya say??
  2. Wow - glad to see this available for something besides the PS2!!! Question is: do I run out and buy the PC version or will an XBOX version ever be released? Thanks,
  3. Hello all, Has anybody taken on the rewarding task of desigining or creating a Kid's controller overlay for Grover's Music Maker? I have the cart (made by Hozer) and my two kids have just started getting into the CCW games (they love Cookie Monster Munch and Alpha Beam with Ernie) and I would love to introduce them to Grover but they really like the overlays... Anyway, if anyone is making these let me know - I'll be first in line to buy one.. Thanks,
  4. Ah yes - my original 2600 (heavy sixer from 77) and about 90 games. I remember it was 1985 and my new interest was the Atari 800xl - the 2600 was forgotten. My buddy wanted to "borrow" it for his niece - and I gladly let him take it all (just bring it back!!!). Well, 18 years later it still hasn't come back. I even tracked down the guy in the phone book and he doesn't recall me ever lending it to him (translation: sold it for 5 bucks at a yard sale). Still hurts to this day... PS On a positive note, I do still have my Atari 800xl and all of those games...

  6. My two cents: I think both are great, and Space Instigators certainly gives more of the "feel" of the arcade coin-op. The one thing stopping me from buying it is the extremely fast UFO - it ridiculously challenging to the point where it's not fun (IMO). My vote would be to have the UFO move at a more normal speed and have the 'A' switch make it faster. Either way, it is certainly an awesome achievement. Thanks,
  7. Hello all - After 8 years in storage, I broke out my 5200 for a test drive and much to my dismay I was having some major issues. - the visuals seemed ok - i was getting title screens for all games - sound was terrible - I was getting a constant "white noise" sound from the TV - controllers didn't seem to work at all - no matter what I pressed I could not start a game. I tried both controllers... Of course, back in 1995 the system worked fine. Any suggestions? Thanks!! PS - I did try my XEGS on the same TV just to confirm and it worked fine. I also tried Channel 2/3 as well (switch on the 5200)
  8. Hello all - I just received my Atari XE in the mail - pretty cool!! I was wondering what are considered the "top ten" cartridge based games for the system? Any "must haves"? Thanks!
  9. I'd like to see on cart: Star League Baseball (Gamestar) Star Bowl Football (Gamestart) Pharoah's Curse Realm of Impossibility Thanks!
  10. Thanks for the info. I guess I won't be getting those on cart any time soon... Anyway - the Star League sports games were pretty cool - here is a review of Star League Baseball: http://www.cyberroach.com/analog/an19/star_league.htm The football game was also pretty cool - very similar to Realsports Football by Atari. I haven't played either in about 20 years so I'm not sure if they've aged well... Thanks again!
  11. Hello all - I am new to the Atari XE GS scene - I just picked one up on eBay. I still have my 800xl (my original one from 1984) with tons of games on disk. I was wondering if these games were available on cart: 1) Star League Baseball and Football 2) Montezuma's Revenge 3) Boulderdash 4) Realm of Impossibility (aka Zombies?) If the games are not on cart, is there a way to do this? I recently bought a copy of M.U.L.E. from Sunmark so I know it's possible, just wanted to know if there is a service out there that can do it a la carte (like Hozer used to do for 2600 roms). Thanks for any info!!

  13. Hello all - This is my first browse into the 8-bit forum (I spend most of my time in the 2600 section... )and I noticed reference to the XEGS - it sounds pretty cool!!! (I had never heard of it before!) I have an Atari 800xl right now (same one I had back in the early 80's) and was wondering: 1) will my carts from the 800xl work on the XEGS? 2) will my 1050 disk drive work on the XEGS? If so, will the games? 3) is there a list of carts that are available for the XEGS? 4) and finally - is this worth getting? What is the general opinion of the XEGS? Thanks!!
  14. Hello all- Does anyone know whether the ROM for Galaxian Arcade has been updated with the correct colors? I recall the last post regarding this someone had directed the programmer to the TIA Colorchart available on the net. I would really like to pick up Galaxian Arcade from AA but I'd rather wait for the version with corrected colors to be made available (if it is indeed going to be made available). Thanks,
  15. Wow!!! I hope this is real!! Of course, if it is, I'll be kicking myself for a long time... I'm right next to Hartford and planned on doing the flea market circuit for the last couple of years but always thought that CT was not a "hot-bed" for prototypes... Live and learn I guess, but we'll see...
  16. Hello all - I'm trying to play Atari 5200 in Atari800WinPL but I can't seem to figure out how to pitch!!! Does anybody know what key emulates the "top" button? I use the arrow keys and the RCtrl key to bat, run, select runners, move fielders, etc., but for the life of me I can't figure out what key I need to press to re-activate my pitcher to get into "pitch mode". Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

I'm with Cupcakus - give us an Xbox version!!!
  18. Cupcakus - Great pics - what is this thing supposed to do anyway? From the descriptions it sounds like it can be used for loading in ROMs - but from what source? Thanks for any info -
  19. Hello all - I may be wrong, but I remember reading somewhere that Activision was against using flicker of any sort in a game, and therefore designed games that the hardware could accomodate without this technique. I think most maze games on the Atari (or at least the exciting ones) use flicker (ie. the Pac-man games) to simulate more than one foe on the screen. Perhaps this is why Activision steered away from these types of games. Just a thought...
  20. atarian1 - Thanks for the tip!! I found a website that sells plastic enclosures: http://www.pactecenclosures.com/index.lfml The model CF-175 or LH129-250 look like good candidates. Question on making the holes: does anybody have any ideas here? The circles for the AV jacks, buttons, etc can be done with a drill I'm sure (on slow speed) but what about the rectangle for the cartridge slot? How about mounting the cartridge connector? Thank you everyone for all your help! [/url]
  21. CPUWIZ - Thanks for the tip - I actually do have an old non-working VCR that I can use, but I was hoping to use a "clean" case to make it look a bit more authentic. Maybe I'll use the VCR for my prototype... Thanks again!
  22. Thanks for the ideas!!! Paul - that link to the rack-mounted Atari is exactly what i'm looking for (as far as the inside is concerned) - now if I could only find an empty shell to put it in so I can proudly display it in my stereo cabinet!!! Does anybody know where such a generic case could be found? Are there resources that actually sell these things? (just a black case the size of a VCR that I could drill holes and mount the Atari in) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
  23. Hello all, Last night I was playing my X-box and it got me thinking about a custom case for my Atari 2600 so that I can stack it in my stereo component cabinet. Here are my thoughts: 1) put the Atari in a component case (much like a VCR) 2) Wire the cartridge slot to the front of the case (like where a VCR tape would go). This would probably have to be recessed a bit so the cartridge wouldn't stick out so much. 3) Wire the power switch, Color/BW, difficulty switches, select and reset to the front of the case 4) Do the video/stereo mod and add the connectors to the back (including the power adapter) 5) Wire the controller ports to the front also Other ideas (a little more difficult) would be to include either a custom controller port for remote control of reset/select/diff./colorbw (with a custom controller) or even an INFRARED port and a programmable remote control (not sure if this is do-able). I would also use extension cables for the joysticks. I guess I'm just looking for a way to have my custom Atari "on display" in the stereo cabinet (along with my other hi-tech components like my VCR and XBOX) and be able to play it without pulling it out of the cabinet all the time. Does this sound like something that can be done? Is it possible to buy generic component "shells" anywhere? I'm not sure if I'm adept enough at soldering and cutting cases to do this but I thought it would be cool...
  24. Chris, This mod sounds fantastic. Here are my recommendations: Personally, I would use the stereo out with s-video, but would like to have the option to use composite for TV's without s-video. Also, not hard-wired - I would prefer jacks on the outside of the system (1st choice) or jacks inside with cables that can be replaced. As for cost, I would offer 2 models, a basic and advanced. The basic could possibly have mono/composite and the advanced would have stereo/s-video (or switchable). I'm not sure what your costs are but a low-end/low cost solution would probably be very appealing to some people. Maybe even 3 models: Composite, Super, and Switchable. Again, your costs for each part would determine that. I have modded my 4-switch with Ben's mod. In your opinion, how does your mod compare to this one? What are the main advantages? Thanks again!
  25. Ken - What are the chances of Anthology I being ported to the XBOX? Any plans for II to be XBOX compatible? Thanks,
