Hello everybody,
I've been following this Barnstorming thread regarding Todd Rogers for the last few days and, except for a few lame comments, actually enjoyed the entire discussion and found myself following the story like a soap opera ("I wonder what happened today?!")...
Anyway - like many people I'm sure - I tried my hand at Barnstorming and was able to get 32.97 - not too bad! I'm anxiously waiting to see Todd at CGE and get some tips/tricks on getting 32.50...
This whole debate led me to twingalaxies.com to check on the record for the game I played alot as a kid (and was pretty good at too!) - Activision's Skiing, game 3. My best is 28.01 on what I thought was pretty close to a "perfect run" (I only have a couple digitial photos as verification). According to tg, that would rank me 3rd - again - not too bad!!
Of course, the top score is from - you guessed it - Todd Rogers - with an incredible score of 27.51!!! Now, I don't want to open up another can of worms here - but does anybody have any idea (tips, tricks) on how this can be accomplished? I've spent numerous hours on this game and I can't for the life of me see where I could shave off a half a second from my time...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have a few rare ones:
Q-Bert's Qubes - 9
Mr. Do's Castle - 8
Crazy Climber - 8
Death Trap - 8
Robin Hood - 8
Hoping to get my hands on a silver label Gravitar and a Quadrun someday....

Great work Paul!!
Stan - I just made my hotel and flight reservations for CGE - I'll be picking up a copy for you when I get there!! (thanks again for the Bugs Bunny...

Hello all -
I have heard rumors that at CGE this year they are doing away with the "wait in line" fiasco that was CGE 2K1 (I was one of those waiting in line for EA and Combat II). Does anybody know how it's going to be handled this year? I heard it's supposed to be some sort of raffle ticket method. I am considering going again but I'm a little weary that the new method may keep some people who attend out in the cold when it comes to getting these games. I would be quite upset if I spend a thousand bucks to fly out to Las Vegas just to lose the luck of the draw for a copy of Save the Whales...
Anyway, I know that standing in line doesn't gaurantee getting these games, but I would certainly feel a bit more "in control" of whether I got one of these games (last year I got up extra early and was 2nd in line on Saturday morning!). Just curious what my chances are - I've heard that there may be as many as 1500 people at this year's expo.
Thanks for any info...

The cooless thing I ever did in Adventure was freeze Yorgle with the yellow key. Also, I liked using the magnet to pull the chalice into the gold castle (to win the game) without putting it in their myself!

Steve,
Currently I'm using PCAE 2.6 under Win 2K. I use the keyboard to play. I was going to buy the cart from Hozer until this Thrust+ announcement was made - now I'm waiting (and hoping) for a chance to buy one of those!! I would love to play it on a REAL Atari...
Good luck!

To get back on topic, here is the REAL reason why Yorgle runs away from the yellow key:
He knows that if you drop the key right on his head, he's paralyzed forever!! (or until the stupid bat takes the key... )

Wow! That's awesome news Thomas! Now I REALLY want one!!
How is the contest shaping up? I didn't want to join because I didn't know what an average score is... I was able to (on game 1) get all the way to the reverse gravity levels (about 70K). Is this even competitive? If so, maybe I'll give it a shot...
Thanks again and please consider making that 2nd production run if you can!!

Sorry - a little off topic:
Where can I find out information regard the status of Marble Craze?
Thanks,
-
Well, being a "johnny-come-lately", I put my list on the 51-99 reservation list, hoping that enough people join with me and a 2nd production run is made...
Anyway - here's a question for Thomas: can Thrust+ SE be controlled by a joystick or is it specially programmed to use the driving controller/foot pedal only?
Thanks!

I always loved Pleiades too - the docking level was really cool... Hopefully whoever owns the ROM packages up the game for an official release...

Hey - this competition thing is cool. How about throwing in Skiing (game #3) or Grand Prix (game #1)?
PS I suck at Dragster, so I'll let that competition pass me by... Hey Stan - what's your best on Stampede? Mine is somewhere around 4000 - not sure exactly...

Stargate is awesome! I'm still amazed that it's a 2600 game when I fire it up, it's so close to the arcade. I'm trying to make a custom controller so I can have easy access to hyperspace, inviso and the smart bombs...
And, I also think that ET is very underrated as well!! The pits aren't THAT difficult to avoid...

I was big into Demon Attack back in the day- the graphics and sounds were top notch and although it was repetitive, the different types of aliens gave the game a sense of "levels".
At first, Phoenix turned me off probably because it seemed bland (especially compared to Demon Attack), but after a while it grew on me. Today, I'll play Phoenix for an hour but haven't played Demon Attack in a looong time...
As for the question on the arcade game, it does give you two shots in the 2nd level.

That's great news Cassidy!! Be sure to bring a copy of your Polo game for him to see. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of the fact that people are STILL making Atari games...
Have fun!

Hello all,
I recently read a positive review on Spacemaster X-7 for the 2600 and wanted to give it a try in PCAE 2.6. After playing it for about 20 minutes, i gave up on what was a very repetiive game - all you could do is blast that one thing in the middle OVER and OVER again!!!
After reading the instructions on Atari Age, i noticed a lot of things mentioned in the game that were not in the version i played. I decided to fire the game up in Stella and presto!!! You could now destroy the base, the energy meter moved, there were shields and many different kinds of enemies!!! Needless to say , I am very pleased with this game and I'm gonna try to get it in cart form...
Anyone know what the deal is with how PCAE emulates the game? Is there a particular setting that needs to be done?
Thanks,
JohnnyWC

Cassidy,
Thanks for the info. I did not know the story about the cross-promotion with ralph lauren - that's really cool!!!
Anyway, I think 40 bucks is a great deal and would be interested in buying one after Philly3 if you still have some left.
Let me know and thanks for a great product!

Hello everyone,
Just had a few questions on Polo - does anybody know how much it's gonna be sold for? Also - I've looked at the pics (which look fabulous) and noticed the cart says "ralph lauren polo" but the box and instructions say "polo". Any ideas why?
Thanks,
JohnnyWC

Looks great Cassidy! How much are you gonna charge for it? I won't be able to make Philly3 but would be interested in getting one after the show...
also - do the actual carts say "polo" or "ralph lauren polo"? If rlp, why? I get the joke, but are you doing that for any particular reason? Just curious....
Thanks,
JohnnyWC

And speaking of Ewok Adventure - has anyone put together a manual on this? I tried to play it yesterday on PCAE but I had no clue what I was doing. Was there a manual contest for this that I may have missed? Any tips?
Thanks....

Cash for CGE
in Atari 2600
Posted
Hello everyone,
I'm getting ready for CGE and taking out a second mortgage on my house to pay for all of these 2600 exclusives being offered at CGE. Is there a resource that lists all of the exclusives and their prices? I'm interested in almost all of the games, especially Marble Craze!!!
Thanks for the help. I'd rather not go 100% LTV if I don't have to - better interest rates ya know....
Also - I've noticed that Thrust Plus is listed as one of the products at the Atari Age booth - will this be for sale? If so, how much? Will it come with a nice label/instructions/box?
