  1. I'd have to agree with PeenNPoke on this one - I play Jedi Arena most frequently. Excellent graphics, good sound, awesome special effects, and the computer is a great challenge. I only wish I had another human to play against...

  2. A model with a combo JAMMA joystick and built in paddle would also be very cool (very much like the coleco gemini stick, but with much better parts, although I would prefer a seperate button for the paddle, not rely on moving the joystick left ). You could use a regular atari paddle (the guts of it at least). I believe that the paddle and joystick can be hooked up simultaneously so it should be fairly simple to wire.

    Just a thought....

  3. Thomas -

I was playing your Asteroids hack with the DC, extra ships and tweaked gameplay (along with the vector graphics) and I must say you did a fantastic job.

Question: how difficult would it be to allow the Color/BW switch to toggle between color asteroids/graphics and b+w graphics (like the arcade)? I'm sure you've been flooded with these types of ideas but I thought it may be pretty neat...

Anyway, thanks again for all the "hacks", especially the Omega Race one using a standard joystick. Now if I could just get it on a cart...

  4. Hello -

Does anybody know what format and label BMX Airmasters was released in? I know there are a couple TNT labels and an Atari label - were there any others? Was this released as NTSC or PAL? I checked the Atari Age rarity guide and it had three listings:

NTSC - TNT - Red Label

NTSC - TNT - White label

NTSC - Atari - Red Label

    Are there any others?

    Thanks,

  5. Well, I was able to get to level 7 and score 23,275 points. Man - this game gets really frantic by then! I did some searches on the net and found some pretty scatching reviews on this game. I find the game quite entertaining and once you know what you're doing it can be very enjoyable and challenging.

I hope people give this one a chance and, more importantly, release this one on a cart!

  6. Thank you all for your help. I was able to save Mary three times in one game (standard skill level) for a whooping score of 12,685!!! Does anybody know if the difficulty switches do anything in this game?

I must say I'm even more impressed with the game now that I've moved on to level 2, 3 and 4. The different shaped blocks really give it a Tetris-type feel and really make the game interesting and certainly more challenging. Of course, the water rising quicker and the blocks coming out faster really get the blood pumping. Then, of course, is the moment of truth when you have to choose between grabbing the 500 point bonus or concentrating on saving Mary...

Today's poll: If you're playing Save Mary! and she's about to drown, is it more humane to let her drown or crush her with a block?

My vote: crush her with the block (the Ol' Yeller syndrome)

    Thanks,

  7. Hello everyone,

I have been playing Save Mary! on the PCAE emulator and I can't save her for the life of me!! I can get her to climb pretty high, but it appears that I can't get her far enough left or right to get out of the canyon. It seems that the blocks will crumble when dropped a certain way sometimes and not others. Does anybody know the rule of thumb to use here?

I can't stand to see that little girl die again... Help!!

PS Fantastic game! Here's hoping that this one is finally released with full color label, box, and instruction manual!

    Thanks,

  8. Hello everyone,

I am contemplating making the 280 mile drive from Connecticut to PhillyClassic 3. Can anyone tell me a little about what I should expect? I went to CGE 2K1 last year and had a blast; has anyone attended both and can give a comparision of the two?

Also - does anybody know what day the Bugs Bunny cart is being sold? If I go I definitely want to try to pick up that one...

    Thanks,

  10. Well, after some numerous 'tests' and observations, I come up with the following game matrix:

    |1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8|9|0|1|2| Game #

    ----------------------------------

    | | | | | | |X|X|X|X|X|X| Two Player

    | |X| |X| |X| |X| |X| |X| Fast play

    |3|5|8|3|5|8|3|5|8|3|5|8| Min/Qtr

    Left Difficulty:

    A - fouls are called

B - no fouls are called

    Right Difficulty:

A - computer plays intense defense

B - computer plays relaxed defense

    Hope this helps!

  11. Well, I played my first network Atari 2600 game today with my old co-worker. We played a game of bowling using the new PCAE and I must say it worked pretty well. My ping wasn't that good, so the response was a little choppy, but worked well with the turn-based game.

We wanted to try combat, but it kept saying 'waiting for players'. Anyone have success with this one?

    Thanks,

  12. Tempest - I was thinking exactly the same thing the other day. Even Atari's original basketball game was very popular; you think an update would have done very well. As for the hockey game, that still baffles me. I love Activision's version, but a full 5 on 5 or 3 on 3 game with 2nd or 3rd generation programming techniques would have been very cool.

    Oh well...

  13. Dutchman -

Haven't seen that one yet. I actually had Randy at Hozer video make me a cart of that one to play on a real Atari. I've played about 10 games against the computer and never had a foul called...

This would take someone looking into the code to see if fouls are even called. I know someone a while back said there was a referee graphic in the game, so maybe they had the thought of implementing fouls too.

It's really too bad this one wasn't finished. The gameplay is OK and the graphics are good. Some tweaking, fouls, a ref, and who knows - this one could have actually been fun to play...

  14. Great job guys! I remember when I first played this game about 10 years ago the border really made me say *yuck*!!!

Any chance the colors could be changed to be more "arcade like"? The green guys at the bottom should be blue and the white guys up top should be yellow. Here's a pic from klov.com that shows what they should be:

    xGalaxian.png

Not sure how difficult this is, but I'm sure it would give it even more of an "arcade" feel.

    Thanks again!

  15. Does anybody know how to use the Kaillera net play support? I click on the icon to bring up the network dialog box but I'm not sure how to proceed. My buddy and I want to play - does one of us need to be a server? I don't see the distinction unfortunately. Can anyone give me a step-by-step on how two players on different machines could use this feature to play, let's say, Combat head to head?

    Thank you very much.

  16. For anyone who wishes to see the phenomenom I described in my first post "live" in an emulator, try to run the PAL or NTSC Klax ROM in PCAE, but change the ROM type to 16K instead of 16K with SuperChip. You will indeed see the WINNER! KLAX 100 message.

Well, this puts to rest the issue with the Klax game I had made. The question now is: What is this SARA extra RAM chip I've heard about? Is it something that can be purchased somewhere? What about the schematics of a Klax cart? Are they available? It would be nice to have the NTSC ROM of Klax with the SARA chip in a cart to play on an NTSC machine, but I'm not sure if the effort is worth it...

    Thanks,

  17. jahfish -

Thanks for the info. I'm actually looking for what the original title for these games were. Was Concentration originally called Hunt & Score, or vice-versa? etc...

    Thanks again..

  18. RangerG,

For me, my goal is to collect the following:

    - NTSC only releases

    - major label variations

This includes the Atari Club releases as well. I also collect what I like to call "label variation oddities"; for example, the yellow text Atari Blackjack (more commonly available in green) or the mis-spelled POLE POSITION end label, but I don't include these in my "goal".

I do not collect PAL games or pirate games.

As many will say, the goal I have set may not only be unreachable, but also undefineable, as there are many exceptions and ambiguities, but I do it just for fun so that doesn't bother me. I'm also not even close to my goal to worry about the little details, but I may someday!!!

    Hope this helps...

  19. Hello everyone -

I'm making a database of all 2600 games (as I'm sure many of us have) and had a few questions about "what came first". The reason is that I want to designate which games are orginal releases and which are clones or re-releases (i.e. Defender II was a re-release of the original Stargate).

    So, which came first?

BASIC MATH or FUN WITH NUMBERS?

    PELE'S SOCCER or CHAMPIONSHIP SOCCER?

    HUNT & SCORE or CONCENTRATION?

SUPER BREAKOUT (sears) or SUPER BREAKOUT (atari)?

Also, do Atari release Concentration as "Hunt & Score", "Concentration" and "A Game of Concentration"?

    Thanks!

  20. Good battle MoonlightKnight - I'm sure you'll get the next one. My quest for Q*Bert is over!! (anyone want a Q*Bert's Qubes? I have 6 of them now... )

Seriously though - wished I would have caught that auction last week - could have saved 40 bucks. Although the label on mine looks a little nicer (just trying to make myself feel better... )

    Until the next battle....

  21. Thomas,

Thanks for the help with RS Basketball. Can you explain in layman's terms why the screen rolls and what "it only displays 290 lines" would do? I'm just curious...

As for the palette, I have no clue. I do know that the game looks alot better color-wise in z26 than Stella - hope that helps!

Anyway the hack could be tested on a real Atari using a Cuttle Cart once it's done? If Randy burns me a cart, I (and he) want to make sure it's actually going to work...

    Thanks again!

  22. Hello everyone -

I just went to play a game of RS Tennis that I received in a "lot" of games on eBay and much to my dismay I discovered it's a PAL cart!! I get the scrolling screen/blue tennis court thing, making it unplayable... My concern is that I looked at the cart and there are no discerning marks on the label that clue you in that it's PAL until you play it!!

My question is: does anyone have an NTSC RS Tennis in decent shape that they would like to trade for a PAL RS Tennis in great shape?

Oh - and I also have a text label "Brain Games" in PAL if anyone wants to trade...

    Thanks...

  23. Monster -

That is exactly what mine says: Just TENNIS on the front. It also doesn't have the "Use with Joystick Controller" on it, and it's © Atari Corp., not Atari Games.

    Very weird...
