  1. Thomas - great job on the hacks! I've always wanted to play Sprintmaster with driving controllers; now that this ROM is available I'm gonna have Randy at Hozer make me a cart... I tried the ROM under Stella and I'm having some problems - has anyone else tried this? The screen seems to be moved up the screen when you're selecting a track and the A and D keys don't seem to emulate the driving controller at all (although the spacebar does act like the gas pedal). I can get the car to turn a little when I press 'W' and 'S' (up and down), but that's about it... Thomas - have you tried this new ROM on an actual Atari? Just curious... Thanks again!
  2. It seems the Silver label generation of Atari games produced some fantastic arcade translations. Here is the list: Asteroids Battlezone Centipede Crazy Climber Crystal Castles Dig Dug Galaxian Gravitar Joust Jungle Hunt Kangaroo Mario Bros. Millipede Moon Patrol Ms. Pac-man Pengo Phoenix Pole Position Space Invaders Stargate Track & Field Vanguard Which are your favorites? Mine are Dig Dug, Gravitar, Stargate, Millipede and Crystal Castles.
  3. Pac-man by far. Still having nightmares over that one...

    Sports games

These are the games I play the most often: Baseball: Pete Rose Baseball Football: Super Football Basketball: Double Dunk Hockey: Ice Hockey I also enjoy Golf, Bowling, RS Volleyball and RS Tennis... Just wish I could play against a human sometime...
  5. I've always been partial to Dodge'em - a true classic... Bowling is another, along with Adventure. Gotta love the first-gen games!
  6. Great job with the Asteroids vector hack and adding the extra ships on the top! How difficult is it to make all of the objects white and grey (like in the arcade)? I'm sure that would certainly make the game even closer to the original...
  7. Just got my Subterranea in the mail and must say the game is awesome!!! Excellent graphics, sound, gameplay - this one seems to have it all! Any one else out there have an opinion about this rare Imagic gem?
  8. Well - thank you for providing such a great site for all of us - I used it all the time! I also bid on it but was swooped at the last second - I hope this guy who won is serious about keeping it going. Can't wait to see what he (or she) has planned!
  9. Due to an overwhelming demand for it (I received one request in the last 4 months ), I am posting a link to the AVI that shows how I paralyzed Yorgle (the yellow dragon) in Adventure using the yellow key. Paralyzing Yorgle Have fun!
  10. Cassidy - can you post pics? What label type did you choose for it?

    NTSC Klax

Thanks for the info Tempest - I tried the game on 4 other systems, all with the same results... Does anybody else out there have a home-made NTSC Klax cart that is exhibiting this type of behavior? I'd like to try to determine whether the cart is defective or not so I can get it working!! Thanks again everyone for all your help...

    NTSC Klax

OK - now I got it... the pics on your site are for your NTSC prototype, but not THE final NTSC prototype. The final NTSC prototype is exactly like the released PAL version (feature wise and display wise, I know the ROM will be slightly different) - correct? So it is more likely that the cart I had made does not work correctly than it being a PAL version. Is there any easy way to tell if the ROM I have is PAL or not? And the adventure continues...

    NTSC Klax

Well, my NTSC Klax woes continue... I asked the person who made the cart to send me the ROM image he used so I could test it in Stella... here is what I got: Is this correct? It looks like the title screen to the PAL version if I'm not mistaken. Tempest - I have visited your web site to look at your pics and I noticed your NTSC Klax has an Atari symbol on the title screen. Is this the only known NTSC prototype out there? Would you happen to have the ROM dumped? If so, could you post it to Atari Age so I could make some comparisons with it? I'm hoping that the erratic behavior I'm seeing is the result of running a PAL cart on an NTSC machine/TV, although I've heard that doing this usually results in a rolling screen and different colors... Thanks everyone again for your suggestions and help...
  14. Definitely Parker Bros. and Imagic!

    NTSC Klax

Tempest - Is there anything special I need to do to start a game? Have you tested your prototype on a 4-switch by any chance? Does this game use a joystick (left or right) or paddle? Do the difficulty switches need to be in any special position? Color/BW? I'm just trying to eliminate anything obvious I may be doing wrong. This is what I'm doing: 1) Power off system 2) Insert KLAX cart 3) Power on system 4) KLAX WINNER! 100 appears 5) Reset, Select, Colow/BW, difficulty switches, joystick 1 button and movement, joystick 2 button and movement do not have any effect ???

    NTSC Klax

Well, for all who care to see here is a picture of my "accomplishment" Seriously though - has anybody else had this problem with the NTSC version of KLAX? I'm running in on a 4-switch model and this is all I get!!! I really want to play this game sometime and actually clear 100 levels legitimately! I'll try it on a 6-switch, 7800, Jr. and a Gemini to see if I get any other results. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    NTSC Klax

Hello everyone - Does anybody know where I can download the NTSC version of Klax? I thought it used to be here on Atari Age but it's not anymore (or at least I can't find it!)... The reason I'm asking is because I had a NTSC Klax cart made and it doesn't work! A title screen comes up that says "KLAX WINNER 100" and a white dot moves from the lower right hand corner of the screen to the center of the screen, but nothing else happens - it's completely unplayable.. ( Tempest - I know you own the actual NTSC Klax prototype - does this actually happen when you turn on the game? What differences have you noticed between the NTSC and PAL versions? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,
  18. For me, a quick game of Dodge-em (both switches on 'A') is always a great challenge (537 is my high score). I always have a favorite game of the week, this week it's Mr. Do's Castle (which is quite fun I might add...). Of course, a game of Pete Rose Baseball is never too far away... Stan - have you beaten the computer yet? I'd love to play that game (and Double Dunk) against a human opponent sometime...
  19. Just had a 2 hour atari marathon yesterday: River Raid Moonsweeper Midnight Magic Moon Patrol Mario Bros. (first time, excellent game!) Gravitar (got my high score at 45,200!) Crazy Climber (excellent) Jr. Pac-man (got to level 3) Reactor fun fun fun...
  20. Has anyone tried this video mod described in the FAQ using the CD4050 video buffer? I already did Ben's mod to my 4-switch but was not pleased with the results. The picture seems to bleed and have ghosting problems and the video signal is too weak, requiring amplification through a VCR (ugh!). It appears this new mod, although more complicated, amplifies the video signal and even uses a video buffer for a clearer picture. It also provides separate leads for luma and chroma (for S-video out). Before I take this on, I was hoping someone else on this board had tried this and could confirm whether it was worth doing. Also, I had a few questions on the schematics and combining the luman and chroma outputs to a composite signal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I plan on posting my findings (with plenty of pics and step-by-step instructions) once I'm finished. Thanks,
  21. Thomas, Thanks for the input. I figured it wouldn't be a trivial job. I am planning on trying to make my own 2600 game someday (like most people it seems) so maybe I'll be the one to make this mod - who knows? I was thinking that whatever code is being used to read the booster grip (I believe it's reading the two pins that are used for the paddle) could be replaced with code that polls the joystick inputs, but it's all just a theory right now... Thanks again,
  22. Thanks for the info Thomas - I visited Hozer and looked at the XYPE section - does anybody know what kind of labels are included with these games (most notably Gunfight, QB and Thrust!)? Are they nice color labels designed by XYPE or standard labels from Hozer? Thanks,
  23. Another quick question: is this modification Chris Wilkson's mod that I've heard such good things about? Does anybody know? Thanks,
  24. Thomas - Any idea when the new version of Stella will be released? How about the new features it will have (besides illegal opcodes)? Also, do you know which versions are being updated? Is StellaX on the list? Thanks - looking forward to playing Thrust! BTW - are there any more copies available (with a nice label and all...)?
  25. Does anybody else out there like Omega Race? This was always one of my favs back in the day (I used to play it on a Vic-20 at Service Merchandise) and was pleased when I found out a version existed for the 2600. Unfortunately, as we all know, this game requires the "Booster Grip" controller add-on (which I do not have). My question is: is it possible to alter the code of Omega Race so thrust can be done by pushing up on the joystick (ala Asteroids) and firing can be left to the button to remove this un-necessary Booster-Grip requirement? Any programmers out there willing to give this one a shot? Thanks,
