Well, I never said that I was making one, just curious about what would go into it. I thought it would be a good thing for AA in the future... But for your argument to be valid, I need to get $20,000 from various people around here and a few other places, make four years of promises, occaisional photos of some plastic pieces, a few dozen flame wars as a response to anyone asking questions, somehow a conspiracy to get me to stop making the carts, get a few people to promise games on it and have only one actually show any work, then get to postpone it indefinately several times, abruptly change my company and financial information with no expanation, and finally have some people post here about how great I am despite not actually delivering anything in all that time. Then you can come back to me with that argument.

I know the Pokey issue ups the cost and/or requires Ballblazer (etc.) repros, since I'm the one who DID that research, if you'll remember. A $10 markup for this particular cart doesn't seem out of line, really. What I don't know if the DK XM rom is in an arragement that precludes a regular 7800 cart. I also found emulated Pokey and SID chips much cheaper, so to bring up the 7800 Melody cart now seems more doable, but it would use today's tech, not that of 1985.

Look, my intention was just pointing out something obvious, Curt's not up to doing the XM. The is an indefinate delay and he has no idea when or even if he can get back to it. Given his reason, that's fair enough. Maybe someone else can take the reigns (GroovyBee sounds like the best candidate), maybe not. But, right now, the XM is on the back-burner for an indefinate time period. In any case, in all serious, Curt should probably let the XM project go. Health comes first, and this is obviously no longer beneficial for him. Given that, since this particular game seems ready to release, I didn't want you (Tep) to have to shelve it. I looked at the current delay as an impetus for a 'regular' version, not as a stick to beat the horse with, which is why I suggested a 'deluxe' version if the XM gets going again - adding the Donkey Kong 2 levels.

Hadn't played with the difficulty swtiches, which is my fault.. you MAY consider having the left switch reversed for this, then. Even though I know a lot of 7800 users make use of the 2600 stick, it probably still makes more sense to assume the doorstop as the 'default' stick and go from there. I'll play with the ROM and my controllers tommorow and see how it goes.

I'm sorry, I find it easier to shop through the AA Store than a lot of the third-party websites. I was under the impression that you're selling it here, so I wasn't seeing the problem. But, hey, if you want to have a big-ass battleline in the 7800 fanbase over the XM, that's your business. I just thought you were doing good work and was trying to offer a way for it to come to fruition considering Curt's current, very unfortunate, status. But, hey, if this has all actually been about establishing a 7800 fandom pecking-order rather than the love of classic consoles, games, and development, then I'm not interested. I'll get the game and the XM (when/if it comes out) on my own terms and leave the high-school drama to others, thanks.

I don't think he was aware of the code's release when he started.

Maybe actually have the second button be 'run'? I'm honestly not sure of the best solution here... the lag in running seems to be the biggest problem in that some controllers don't seem to pickup the run AT ALL for some reason. My pad does it fine, my old doorstops did not. As a quicker code fix, maybe have a longer check for starting the run so that he'll do it sooner? Like, a couple of steps then automatically run?

I want Tep to make as many 7800 games as possible and he will get my money as he does (or, at least, AA will). I also don't want to discourage him - which is why I asked if it was possible to put this game on a 7800 Pokey cart. I honestly have no idea. If it is, it may be in the best interest to do so, and maybe to something more expansive (like adding the Jumpman II screens?) for the XM version down the road. If not, it may not be a bad idea for him to knock out a couple of his other projects, which I will also gladly pay for, while things with the XM are in limbo.

You release this for the 7800 on cart, I'll buy it. I've bought most of the homebrews through AtariAge's store at this point (see my thread on being new to the 7800), so I don't know why you would think otherwise.
-
Well, I'm on record as not believing that the XM will ever come out, so I suppose most people here know where I am coming from. But we do have confirmation from Curt that the kits aren't going to be worked on for the forseeable future - and I would seriously hate to see your work come to naught because of it. :S Maybe I can bribe you to finish up one of your other games in the meantime?
-
Happy New Year, Bob! Good to see you around. The game difficulty, in my experience, really depends on the controller you're using and how finicky it's acting. The scheme you're using is fairly exacting, which can make a level really easy for someone with a good controller that's reading like you're expecting it, or really frustrating for one that you're not. You might consider softening up the scheme a little, giving a smidge more leeway in when the bear starts running, in particular.

Er, he explictly stated that it's indefinately delayed. The 'not in 2013' was a guess on my part, and I'm thinking it's a pretty safe one - but, I'll tell you what, how much money are you willing to wager with me otherwise? In the meantime I would hate to see some real work on an XM title go to waste because the XM is now back in development limbo (no matter if the reasons are justified), so it's a perfectly reasonable question if it could be brought to a regular 7800 in some capacity.
-
I'm hesistant to ask this, but since the 7800XM is now indefinately delayed (as in, likely not in 2013 either, folks)... is there any chance of an extended cart for the 7800 itself?

Scramble Another great game from the master. Scamble is a port of the arcade game involving flying through canyons and blowing shit up. The gamepad makes this play smooth as silk, and (for the most part) we've got an excellent translation of the arcade machine going on here. Only down side is the scrolling technique is visible, resulting in 'bands' appearing on the left and right of the playfield as you go along, which can be a little distracting until you learn to ignore it. Solid entry in the 7800 lineup and amazing for a homebrew.

That's pretty much what I figured, honestly. Hopefully we can get it out so it can be wrapped up! (Same goes for Frenzy and Armor Attack...)

MLip > I don't know about anyone else, but I certainly plan to make 7800 games, though I have a learning curve in front of me.

Yeah.... Can someone just lock this puppy before anyone ELSE makes a complete ass of themselves?
-
Look, you're the one who wants to pretend that there's big cabal out there that's somehow stopping Curt from doing his thing. Can I just ask you one simple question: How on God's Green Earth can anyone, even a small cabal of people, on AtariAge.com stop Curt from making the XM by posting crap on the internet? I mean, that is what it takes to be a conspiracy... and I just don't see that happening.
-
Could you do me a quick favor and go to dictionary.com and actually look up the word conspiracy?

There are many points of order to bring in here... but I want to start by pointing out that I came to this forum because I miss the games that I played in high school.. not the drama that I had in high school. Remember, I don't really have a dog in this fight here... 1) Bob (PacManPlus) did not throw a hissy fit and quit the forums due to a flame war. He quit because his real life career is going to require a large amount of his time and resources in the future. Far from taking his ball and going home Bob posted his source code, wished us all well, and gave us all a big hug on his way out to his new endeavors. 2) Just because someone asks about the XM does not mean that they're part of a 'conspiracy' about it. Neither Curt, Benny, Fernando, or the XM are important enough to have a conspiracy around them. Seriously, as soon as you throw that word around, you look like a convicted felon protesting his innocence. "The man was out to get me!" 3) It is not unreasonable to inquire about the lack of updates and information after it has been repeatedly promised with no follow-through. Once you give your word, you do your absolute best to keep it. Even the biggest XM hopefuls have had complaints about the lack of communication - and everyone has shown remarkable patience when that much money and time has been invested. 4) It is not unreasonable to figure that Curt has gotten in over his head with this project considering the number of delays and lack of updates involved. It is also not unreasonable to assume that this project is 'in limbo' until there's something more significant coming in the future that says otherwise. (For the record, THIS is why I don't believe the XM will actually come.) 5) Your "True Atari Fan" status is not at all dependant of if you're going to support the XM or if you're going to be against it. That is an insanely juvenile approach (on both sides) that reeks of Junior High cliquedom. We're all on the internet discussion 20 year old (or older) video-games. Our 'geek cred' is pretty damn well secure at this point. 6) If Curt manages to get this out, despite everything, then this is a good thing all around, and I promise to not only be pleasantly surprised, but buy an XM as well. Hell, if I can get the time, I'll even do an XM game myself! If it doesn't come out, there will be palpable dissapointment for a lot of fellow fans on here. It should not be used as an 'I told you so' moment, either way. 7) To Curt, your post did you no favors to anyone not already 'in your camp' and most certainly was not professional. You look like you're about to 'give an excuse' to either push back the project some more or just outright cancel it. As I said to you personally through PM some time ago, this could have all been avoided if you had kept in contact - at least as much as you repeatedly promised that you would. There's my two pennies. Enjoy.

I'm looking for the code. I should have a couple of weeks more or less 'free' coming up before Christmas... and thought I would try to get back into assembly. Obviously I'm not talking about /finishing/ anything in that time, but GORF is one of those projects I would like to take over if possible.

Ew... ew... ew... ew...ew.... and probably starting to violate the forum rules.
