Video games back in the spotlight... again.
2600Lives replied to STGuy1040's topic in Modern Console Discussion
It all boils down to religion and others forcing their own morals onto others, period. Personally, I'm all for nuclear armageddon that kills every last human on earth. That'll fix all our problems. Maybe the next species to evolve won't be so stupid. -
Undying was an AWESOME game! Great weapons, great abilities. Loved every minute of that one! My overall favorite is probably the REMake for the GameCube. Just so atmospheric. A few other ones... The Suffering - Some of the creepiest, most disturbing monster designs ever in a game, and fun as hell, too. In most SH games, you're at some sort of disadvantage, whether it's an inability to fight, or a lack of weaponry. Torque has neither. He blows the hell out whatever comes his way, and when he gets pissed, changes into a huge freakin' monstrosity and literally tears the monsters into pieces. Alone In The Dark - The New Nightmare - This one actually had me freakin' paranoid, as the monsters just sort of pop into existence. There's a scene where you're trying to unlock a door, and as you do, lightning flashes and you see several monsters behind you...BUT, it's just an illusion. I wheeled around and just started blasting all over the place. Man, good times. Clock Tower - The Playstation one (which is technically CT2, but since we didn't get CT1 for the SNES here in the states, it's just CT). Yeah, the first game to really give me nightmares. That little bastard Scissorman...man, I hated him. The fact that you were almost completely helpless didn't help things, either. The atmosphere in this game is just incredible, but sadly, the voice acting is shite. Parasite Eve - A good change up in the formula, and had some great monster designs. The music to this one still sits inside my head to this day.

I've found all of them at either GameStop or GameXChange, with only WH Anthology being somewhat hard to find. They're not out for the 360, S1500, but you never know, they may release them at some time in the future. I liked NGBC, actually. The graphics are really meh, but the system plays very well, I thought. Plus it's fun to play as Marco from Metal Slug!

Back in the day, Radio Shack used to be THE place to go, but now they hire any schlub that walks in the door. There's one by my house, though, that does have a good staff that actually knows what's up. The problem is that they shifted from electronics and hobbyists to mainstream stuff like cell phones and home theater systems and crap.

I just grabbed FF Battle Archives Vol. 2 and World Heroes Anthology (NEVER thought I was gonna find that one!). Totally AWESOME stuff, man!

The Halcyon - The REAL Holy Grail of gaming!
2600Lives replied to Zap!'s topic in Classic Console Discussion
Wow, that Jeff Dyer guy was so unbelievably awkward. I loved how he kept referring to the system as "he". Unfortunately, Thayer's Quest looks to be about as bad as Kingdom The Far Reaches. -
What's your favorite videogame songs?
2600Lives replied to lushgirl_80's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Man, too much to list. My overall favorite track would probably be from Final Fantasy Tactics, the one when you're picking your team to fight and the bagpipes start in. Beautiful. Here's a few, though. Mega Man 2 - Crashman Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Battle Theme Landstalker - Overland Theme Sword of Vermillion - Opening Theme Phantasy Star 2 - Battle Theme Final Fantasy 2 - Baron Castle Theme Metroid - Brinstar Theme Secret of Mana - Flammie Theme later in the game, don't know the name of it. Squaresoft games always had the BEST music during the SNES days. Unbelievable the things they could do with that chip. -
Yellowing plastic on SNES, NES, etc.
2600Lives replied to VideoFever1982's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Amazing isn't it? You ask a simple question, and all you get is an asshole answer. Beautiful. For the SNES, I always thought the prevailing theory was the plastic yellowed from the heat generated by the system. -
The Halcyon - The REAL Holy Grail of gaming!

Wow, a system with two games? Makes you wonder...is there an emulator for this system? -
Oh, yeah, Sam Sho Anthology is going to RULE. I can't WAIT for it, but I'm curious. Is it going to contain both SS5 AND SS5 Special? I'd be fine with no 5 proper and just the inclusion of Special, as it was basically just an updated game with more characters and such, but I'm kind of a stickler for owning the absolute best version of a game available, and if they left Special out, that would totally suck.

PS2 - United Kingdom - where to buy?
2600Lives replied to oracle_jedi's topic in Modern Console Discussion
You can get a "flip top" mod for you system. Pretty easy to install, you just unscrew the system and replace the top part of the case. Most of these come with a disc that lets you swap out games for imports or burns. You can get these for about 50 bucks. The PAL PS2 might cost you significantly more, and may not be compatible with your tv, whereas most of the software the comes with flip top mods will let you change regions. -
50 cents for Kung Fu Master is a great deal, actually. I think I paid like 4 bucks for mine.

I tell you what I'd like to see, an HD Remix of some of the Capcom/SNK games, specifically SVC Chaos. A Darkstalkers 3 HD Remix would be way sweet, too.

Anyone else think Blackthorne on the GBA is a POS!
2600Lives replied to Crazy Climber's topic in Classic Console Discussion
There was an arcade Blackthorne? I thought it was made exclusively for consoles and PC. It's not like Castlevania, more like Flashback or Out of This World. I totally loved the game on the SNES. -
Street Fighter II: Championship Edition
2600Lives replied to Linkz1's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I took Blanka to a 9th national place many moons ago on SF2 Turbo, so for the early SF games, he's definately my guy. Right after him, it's probably a dead tie between Ken and Zangief (Ken for his ease of use, and Gief for his power and the fact that 99% of your opponents won't expect you to play him well). Third is a tie between Honda and Vega. -
Probably just a way to customize your profile, and nothing more. I chose underground for mine. Dunno why, just did.

Hmmm, then I wonder why a Capcom representative would say something like this? It's likely they hold the rights to the game as a whole, and would have to pay Marvel a percentage to do something like this. From what I remember, Marvel had little input in the actual game, just giving them the character licenses, and not much more. Still, this NEEDS to happen. I'd love to get HD remixes of MvC 1 and 2, X-Men COTA, Marvel vs. Street Fighter, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, SVC Chaos, and Capcom vs. SNK 1 and 2. Those would kick SO MUCH ASS.

The Rules of Video Game Collecting
2600Lives replied to Ransom's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Godslabrat, that is EXACTLY how I collect! The one thing I'm quite a stickler for, though, is cases for CD and DVD games, since they are so easily damaged, and for those, I only really want the originals and the manuals. Cartridges, though, feh, boxes and manuals are just extras (and I don't want boxes, I'd much rather have a hard shell plastic case to keep the game protected). -
Anybody else LOVING these? I've been snatching these up as soon as I see them. If you didn't know, SNK Playmore has been releasing compilations of some of their greatest fighting games on the PS2. Samurai Shodown, World Heroes, King of Fighters, Fatal Fury (2 different ones), Art of Fighting, etc. These are AWESOME, especially if you love old school 2D fighters like I do. There is also a compilation disc of various games, including some of the aforementioned, a mixed bag of shooters, side scrollers, etc., and of course, the Metal Slug anthologies. Man, big thanks to Playmore for giving these to us, and at a great price to boot! SNK really screwed up during their final days, but Playmore has really done a good job of keeping the original games alive, and making some great new games, too (NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, despite some graphical disappointments, is a DAMN good fighter). Here's hoping that maybe they will start releasing new installments of some of the old franchises.

Do you have your box hooked up to the internet? If not, it might be a good idea to do so just to download the current patches for the game.
-
Is the disc in good shape? If it's scratched all to hell, that would be the problem. If it's not, then it may be your box. I dunno, I've never had any of those problems.
-
Well, the PS2 is still cranking out games, so I'd say it's still current gen, so there's Capcom Fighting Evolution, which has the charcter of Hauzer from the Red Earth game.

Grand Theft Auto 4 - intellivision Vs. Atari 2600
2600Lives replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Yeah, this one's been around for a while, but it's still hilarious. I love the fat dude's face while he plays. Very, very funny. The mostly water guys are great. Check out their other stuff, like the "But I jumped" video. -
Weren't those tv/NES combos only for hotels or something?

Cammy is a good character, but you really have to watch your moves, and let your opponents make mistakes that you can capitalize on. She would seem, at first, to be an offensive character, with her speed and air priority, but I find her best played defensively, putting the game at your pace. The Cannon Drill is WAY easy to punish, and hard, as in Zangief Ultra Combo punish, if it's blocked. The Cannon Spike is very good at playing keep away, though, but some characters can hit you as you're landing if they block. What gives me trouble is her odd Hooligan throws, man, those will really throw your game off if you're not careful. The Spinning Fist is ok as a pressure move, but once again, easy to punish if blocked. Her super makes you block low, which seriously screws with me sometimes. Overall, Cammy is great if you have lots of patience and can force your opponent into doing stupid things. Seriously, guys, give the Traditz stream some love, it's GREAT fun. Played them twice tonight, three matches each. Went six for six, with a perfect to boot! Hehe. They're good, but they all admit that they have trouble with Zangief, and he's my main, so...They're also hosting a HUUUUGE tournament on April 4th, with 90 people already signed up, and the cap will be at 128. I can't play, unfortunately, as I don't know how long it will last, but if you have the time to spare, I suggest joining.
