  1. Oh, yeah, this needs to happen. Seriously. I LOVE MvC, even though it's pretty much all flash and no depth (for depth, gimme SF3 Third Strike). Still, way fun, and this would be a blast to play online.
  2. It's doubtful. You'd likely need to do some internal re-wiring of the system for it to work correctly.
  3. The best thing I've found so far for the beginning of the match with Zangief is to do a Fierce Banishing Flat right out of the gate. If they throw a fireball, it usually snuffs it and give me a hit, which I can sometimes combo into a SPD. If they stand still or back up, it allows me to close the distance very quickly, then do a SPD before they expect. If they jump straight up, I usually take a hit, and if they jump straight back, it just closes a bit of distance. If they jump AT me, however, I do the SPD motion, and it usually grabs them from the back side! I am really lovin' Big Z, he's actually one of the most fun characters to play I've found yet, and I NEVER played him back in the day.
  4. CDisplay is that program you want. It's a "comic book reader" program. Very cool, too, and easy to use. Just google it and you'll find it, it's free.
  5. Yeah, bending those pins is a pain in the ASS, seriously. I'd much rather plunk down a ten spot for a new one, and just replace it. One good thing is that I now don't have to push the game down for it to work (in fact, it DOESN'T work if I push it down), and that's just one step I don't have to do anymore. It plays all my Color Dreams and Tengen games perfectly, every time (I keep the edge connectors of all my games as clean as possible). Yeah, I hear you on the cleaning rituals. As soon as I get new cartridges home, I catalog them in Cart Commander, then clean them inside and out.
  6. Take it to a local game shop, or a place that sells CDs. Someone around you should be able to resurface it. Should cost no more than 5 bucks.
  7. Ok, so, I'm reading through an OLD book that deals with how to score high on some of the older home system games. While perusing the Space Invaders part of the book, I ran across something interesting. In 1980, a man by the name of Bill Heineman won the Atari Space Invaders tournament (the 2600 version is what was played, which is why it's in this forum). Ok, now, being an afficionado of trivia myself, I'm curious. I this the same "Burger" Bill Heineman that programmed the totally awesome Tass Times in Tonetown, then proceeded to have a sex-change operation? Inquiring minds want to know!
  8. TAC-2. Nothing comes close in my opinion.
  9. Greenberg was an eletist piece of shit (just like someone else..). Just another goddamned suit who thought he knew best about everything and only cared about the allmighty dollar, and willing to do whatever it took to get that dollar. Fuck him, plain and simple. I've heard those stories about Coleco for years, and an old buddy of mine's sister worked for them during the very final days. Though I've never met her in person, he's told me that she never had anything good to say about the place. Horridly low pay, jerkoff management, etc.
  10. My toaster plays almost everything, everytime, no fuss. I've replaced the 72 pin connector, and clipped the lockout chip, so not only does it work great, it looks much better with the composite out.
  11. Our local GameStops have this game in abundance. Just from the title, it sounds like just another shovelware title that I'd avoid like the plague (for the 360, at least, seriously, why spend money on this with RE5 is just around the corner?). Still, I like a good B styled game (Stubbs anyone?), and this certainly fits the bill. Storyline? Huh? Bewbs...story...booobs...
  12. Ok, as I was going to bed, I decided to go to GameFaqs and check some of the forums, right? Weeellll, I found this site rightchere. http://www.justin.tv/traditz They do a stream of matches. You send them a game invite, and you que up, then play them live on camera. Damn, was it ever fun! Only got one match in, but I totally OWNED with big Z! Almost perfected the guy in the third round, too and he juuuust barely got me on the second. He was GOOD too, using a very well timed Cammy. I watched these guys kick ass against everybody most of the night, and I honestly can't believe I won. Got a lot of compliments on their chat room, too. I'm going to be doing this a lot from now on, as it was FUN! Had to wait a while, but hey, it was totally worth it!
  13. Ok, so I wanna spew some more hatred towards those fucking Shoto characters. One thing that is giving me SERIOUS trouble is the damned heavy jump kick. HOW do you guys defend against/attack it? Most times it's jump in with heavy kick, I block, they hit it and go into a three hit combo with a damn fireball that chips my life gauge, then jump away. What is the best defense against this? Again, it seems to have absolute priority over ALL ground based attacks, and I'm getting goddamn good and SICK of fighting these guys over and over and over (so much so that I'm SERIOUSLY considering returning the damn game, no joke, and I'm apparently not alone in this respect, as I've read a LOT of players are so tired of losing to these characters time and again that they're doing the same thing). I rarely take guys that have purely air defense moves (and if I did, they'd NEVER come out when I needed them to, seriously). Zangief seems to have serious trouble with this. I know his spinning lariat is supposed to be his air defense move, but against ANY Shoto character, it doesn't work. If I take Honda, the Sumo Splash just goes past them, giving them plenty of time to attack when I land. The kick even seems to knock Blanka out of his air roll, and I SWEAR it knocked me out of a shock once! ARRGH! It's maddening! I never had this much trouble against the stupid Shoto characters back in the day. Capcom seems to have just dumped all the winning tools on them, and it sucks, as I've always hated those characters (though I am very proficient with Ken, I never play him because of how much I hate FACING him). I really hate having to take a specific character just to counter another, as nine times out of ten, my opponent waits till I pick a character like a pussy (they should have made it so you can't SEE who the other person takes! Capcom, wake UP!!), and the guys with nice air counters, like El Fuerte and Abel, suck so badly that all it takes is a quick change of strategy to beat them (and again, I know the fireball/uppercut characters have great anti-air moves, but I simply refuse to play them). So, I need some ideas, as I'm stumped about how to go about this.
  14. Bag of douche. I don't care if there is ONE in existence, a homebrew game will NEVER be worth anything even close to a rare commercial release. Wow. Just friggin' wow. Too bad ebay doesn't just nuke guys like this from their site.
  15. X-Men: Children Of The Atom. Seriously, look at Spiral closely sometime. It's SO unbelievably fluid. While the Marvel games got better as time went on, the animation seemed to suffer, as more and more characters were added and new gameplay features were introduced, but the original X-Men arcade was just BEAUTIFUL in it's animation.
  16. Hmmmm...I have my preferences set to "same skill" level, right? Well, tonight I fight a guy using Ken (of course), I take Zang, and SMOKE him hard, as in two round run, and an UC finish both rounds. So, at the end, he has like 7000 some odd points?! Damn! That was a nice little ego boost! I got a nice chunk added to my battle points from that win, too.
  17. I had heard that the PS2 port of Chain of Memories was VERY well done. Haven't played it personally, but a friend of mine who loves the KH games said it kicked ass, and I've read lots of positive reviews.
  18. Is that the one by the poker player Ken Uston? If so, I have the sequel to that book, Score! Beating the Top 16 Video Games. It gives such useful knowledge as arcade etiquitte, and tells you to make sure to bring the book with you to the arcade if you want to score high (as if games weren't considered geeky enough in those days, why not bring a BOOK with you to the arcade!). It's pretty stupid all around, but it does have some decent information.
  19. In your Live settings for the game, you can choose to have people challenge you when you're playing through the one player game, just like the arcade game. If it says "lobby", then they've created a lobby for someone to challenge them, if it says something else (I don't remember what it says, honestly), then they're playing through the one player game and you can challenge them. Set it to OFF, though. Nothing is more annoying than aaaaalmost winning a hard fought match, only to have someone challenge you and bugger it all up. Had a LOT of fun tonight! Lost more than I won, but it's cool. I learn more that way. Only had one guy talk shit. Looked at his gamer card. He had...82,000 gamer points. Eighty...two...THOUSAND. I have just over 3000! My god! Remember the South Park episode with the fat Warcraft guy? I'm sure this guy makes him look cool! Anyway, he was insanely talented with Zangief, and schooled me, but who cares? Someone like that winning is like losing a basketball game to Michael Jordan, except this guy is a serious loser and Jordan is perpetually cool. Had one guy tell me that that was the scariest Zangief he's ever faced (every time he'd jump in with a kick, I'd SPD him, and I hit it EVERY time, too!). I'm playing Honda much more now, especially against Blanka (Zangief takes a hit EVERY time when attempts to sweep the electric shock. It's bullshit!). Only fought one Akuma, thank GOD. I get so sick of seeing him. Sagat still gives me trouble, though. Can't for the life of me figure out which character to take, as they all seem to get punked. Thinking of giving Cammy a try, as she can go under his fireballs with a cannon drill, and the cannon spike pushes her far enough back to avoid retaliation from a tiger uppercut.
  20. No David Crane? Blasphemy! I don't own a Wii, but I do want one, if for no other reason that Metroid Prime 3 and the upcoming Punch Out game. I'm fairly happy with the 360's downloadable content, though. They've got some GREAT stuff on there, too.
  21. Good to know. I don't play on Live very much, so I'm not familiar with all the ins and outs. Every time I play someone that gives me an actual challenge without just fireball/uppercut all the time, I prefer them, too. The coin has two sides. This is especially true if someone takes a character not normally played, too.
  22. I think they retain the points, as it's basically a "bad connection" type of deal (and I have actually had a legit lag out disconnect when playing someone with a slow internet connection). Didn't know about the XBox.com thing, though. Would be nice if you could actually remember the other player's name, eh? Most times it's just a random string of numbers and letters for their gamertag. What little wussies, man. Just play the game and take your loss. Every loss translates into learning how to play better!
  23. Definately a good find on the ECS, for sure. Wish I had one! Sewer Sam and Beamrider are good finds, too. Nothing spectacular, but semi-rare. Worm Whomper is a good find, too. AD&D is my favorite game on the Inty. LOVE it! Very difficult, but very worth the time playing. I'd say keep it, honestly. The Inty II is a little harder to find than the original, and the ECS makes it even cooler. Pick up an Intellivoice and snag the Intellivoice games, too. Those are always fun for a laugh (B-17 Baaawwwmer!).
  24. Had a funny occurance tonight. Playing against another damn Akuma player. I'm Zangief. I managed to get inside and cross him up to dizzy, then spd to finish. Next round, he tries to jump in, I counter and get him in cross up again. This time, super finish. Two rounds, damn near perfect every time. Not my fault he doesn't know how to counter a cross-up. It's practically Z's bread and butter. Guess when one of those guys can't use the damn uppercut, they have no idea what to do. So, what does he do? I get a message saying "Worst Gief ever." Wow, even when they lose, these little XBox live peckers talk shit. Maybe if they actually TOUCHED a female breast occasionally, they wouldn't be so damn angry. Well, avoid and block communications. Too bad you can't just report these little assholes and get their gamertag banned. Oh, also had my first encounter with a disconnecter. Ugh. Asshole quit just as my ultra combo went off for the win. I know there's a report button for that, but since you actually have to FINISH the match to send a report, it doesn't quite work. Anyway... I've been playing Honda more and more. Damn is he GOOD. Almost a perfect counter to Akuma. Try that damn air fireball! I'll headbutt you to the ground! Gouken still gives me trouble, though. I can occasionally manage a win with Blanka or Vega, but using Z or Honda, and damn, he just annihilates me. My mains are Zangief, Honda, Blanka, Vega, and Balrog currently. Vega I usually use only as a counter to a character I'm no good against, such as Gouken or Akuma. I every so often use Ken when someone takes Sagat, but it's rare. I'd rather have Honda or Z when facing Sagat. Gotta disagree on the balance though, Keilbaca. I've seen this series progress for years, and they STILL have trouble with balance. Some characters are still just too good, and since those characters typically are easy to learn, and worse, easy to learn how to abuse and spam moves, it makes it easy for an unskilled player to learn 2 or 3 techniques and dominate. Look at Dhalsim from SSF2T. He SUCKED in the earlier games, but holy cow, he was almost untouchable in that game. Capcom dumps all the good stuff on the storyline characters, and bugger the rest. Lol. Still, it's MUCH better than some games I've played (namely the KOF games, man, the balance issues in those was just ridiculous). I'd say that overall, Garou still has the most perfect character balance of any 2D fighter I've ever played, period (not my favorite game, but it's got almost perfect balance). Every character has a good chance against every other character. I took on the world champion some years ago with my Hokutomaru, and it was CLOSE, but his Rock ended up finishing me by chipping me with a super.
