  1. Nice find. I love my Commodore and Vic-20. Helluva great system for games, and many times it could easily outdo anything the NES was putting out in it's heyday.
  2. I love my 3DO. Guardian Wars is a great little RPG, very unlike most you have played. Foes Of Ali is a kick ASS boxing game. I believe it is the only system with a port of HELL on it, and of course, Super SF2 is just plain amazing...IF you have the 6 button controller that is. All in all it's a great system, and easy to collect for.
  3. The viewpoint depends on the situation. If you're using it to do some wall climbing, then it's usually from the side, but if you need to jump a chasm, then you usually get a "from behind" view. It's actually very natural feeling, really. And I believe you can get in about 5 or so jumps before it fails. There is this MONSTER gorge you have to cross, and I believe it takes about 5 or so big jumps with the screw attack to make it.
  4. Anybody else love these types of games? I find a game like this to be a welcome change of pace from killing aliens or hacking monsters to pieces. I love a good old fashioned point 'n click adventure. Currently, I've been collecting quite a lot of them as they are super cheap at most computer stores. It seems that The Adventure Company is the reigning king of these types of games. Right now I'm engrossed in The Black Mirror, and have just finished going through Jack The Ripper, and both of the Syberia games. Next I'm gonna order a copy of Missing Since January, as I've heard that it's one of the single most intense games of this type, where you track down a serial killer and he sends you e-mails directly to your own personal inbox and you have to visit websites the company has set up to decipher clues for the game. So, anybody have any favorites of this type?
  5. The screw attack works pretty well in 3D actually. It's mostly used to solve puzzles or jump across HUGE chasms, but if you're clever, you can use it against certain enemies, too.

An actual micro-burst hit my workplace during that huge storm. Our marquee was totally smashed and the neighboring convenience store had the awning completely ripped off from over the gas pumps. Next year I intend to donate a little to help Jesse out. Roomie has a good paying job that he intends on keeping, so it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe I can convince enough friends to come with me so I can get a table and possibly set up a tournament or something while still being able to compete in the other tourneys myself.
  7. I'd say it's two sides of the same coin, actually. Neither is better, they both stand on their own. I got a Cube specifically for the first Prime, and it's still one of my all time favorite games today. The one thing it really reinforced was the utter feeling of lonliness. You were ALONE on that planet of monsters, period. Only your ship guided you along. The second one kind of veered from that path with the aliens you help out, but was more fully realized stylistically I think. It had some very different things, such as ammo for your beam weapons, but I think it all came together nicely. One thing about 2 that kind of irked me, though, was that most of the boss battles seemed to have this sort of "special" thing you had to do to damage the boss, unlike the first one. Use the Spider Ball to climb and destroy this certain object which damages the boss, etc., etc.. Samus usually uses brute force to down her enemies, and that seemed a little off-kilter, but then again, the Ing weren't your usual enemies either. I'll never be able to decide between the two. As far as I'm concerned, they are two exceptional stand alone games.
  8. Oddly enough, one of the songs on that game sounds JUST like "The Mob Rules" by Black Sabbath.

Show's over, and what a show it was! I do believe there were many more attendees than last year. At times the place was positively PACKED. I managed to win the KOF tourney this year and walked away with a Japanese imported KOF technical manual and a deck of Japanese import SNK CCGs. Everything this year was just awesome. I bought the Sega disc from the OneUps (and the keyboardist put on quite the show). Grats to Joel on winning the classic gaming tourney (and from what I hear, he totally SKUNKED all competition). Everyone's tables were just great, especially Flack's and PDF's (he just taunts us every year with his awesome Tron and Q-Bert stuff). And MUCH thanks to Jesse for a great convention! Even better than last year! I'm definately looking forward to next year, too.

Well, the show is half over, and I've returned home for a few mintues to get a bite to eat. So far it's been great. Seems like there is even MORE people there than last year. I took 2nd in the Guitar Hero tourney, taking home a PS2 skin, and my but took first, winning a Game Crazy shirt (we traded though, hehe). Now I just gotta get stoked for the KOF '98 tourney...
  11. Hey now, no knocking Mystic Quest. That one still brings back fond memories, and it STILL has some of the best music ever programmed into a cart. I dunno, I just thought that FF8 was so...very...boring. There's no real urgency behind the character's actions. No world destroying baddies to face, really. Just a witchy-witch and her scar-faced flunky. I liked a lot of the ideas behind it all, but the story just didn't grab you like FF7s did. Add that to the fact that most of the characters were pretty bland and you have the game in the FF line that takes the short bus to school every morning.
  12. I got my new Full Throttle cd working just right with DosBox's help. The best feature about DosBox is that it emulates the old sound cards, so you can get full sound out of games like that. And hey, some of my best gaming memories are on the PS1. It IS over 10 years old now. Ahh, FF7, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil...
  13. I've had to physically remove jerks like that from places I work, too. Not too long ago at the pet store I now work at, some jackass took a swing at our GIGANTIC asst. manager. Guess what? I helped hold him down till the cops got there. Jail time! Idiots.
  14. Oh, and I'd LOVE to see some place tell me that I couldn't have my games back when there's nothing in the store I want. Lol. That's not the first time I've heard of that happening, though, especially with GameStop. Our local EB Games is pretty nice. I picked up some really good PC games there really cheap. I think I paid 3 bucks for a perfect condition copy of The Thing.
  15. I have a hard time trading anything I own in anwyay. I'm a serious packrat when it comes to the collection. The last game I traded in was Darkened Skye, and got fifty cents for it (I thought that was TOO much for the stupid thing). All the GameStops 'round here don't take or sell anything older than the current 3 systems, though. We had a cool little store called Banana Joe's a ways away from where I lived that had a crapload of older stuff (found some killer Sega CD stuff there for real cheap), but sadly they couldn't compete with the big boys and went under.
  16. I always liked the SNES version of EWJ. I saw no real difference in gameplay, as they were the exact same game, and the SNES had a major edge in the sound department. Still, if you want the ultimate Jim experience, nothing beats the Sega CD version.
  17. Actually, I've lived in the South all my life, and as far as I'm concerned, it contains bar none the rudest people there are. And the worst drivers. That whole "salt of the earth" thing about the South is all a joke as far as I'm concerned.
  18. I had heard he was supposed to be in training to be a pro wrestler, actually, and was supposed to be appearing on TNA. Man, I'd have LOVED to still be working matches with him wrestling. I'd have a match with him and stretch him out like a punk first timer. "That's for all that crap on Saved By The Bell!" I loved how they say it's "unfortunate" that his career went into the crapper. I call that justice, man.
  19. Well, the dumbass company MAKES the employees say that stupid crap, so ease up on 'em some. Some of them however take it too far. I'll talk about that in a minute. There is one GameStop here in town, however, that I hate. This ASSHOLE is the manager. He came into the Game X Change when I worked there one night. I was feeling kind that night, so I let him chill on the Playstation demo station while I closed the store down. 20 minutes after close, I was done and ready to go home, so I told the other guy working with me (I was the manager), to go tell him it's time to leave. I walk out there a minute later and the prick is yelling at my employee, cause he didn't want to leave. I had to PHYSICALLY remove him from the store. Anyway, next day he calls up my boss, blah blah. My boss understood, though, but he wrote up a letter of apology and had me sign it. Big deal. Anyway, the first time I saw him in that particular GameStop, some 5 years later, I was literally overjoyed. I went to the counter, and he said "Can I help y...". He froze in his tracks, realizing who I was. "Yeah." I said. "You can do two things. Shut the fuck up and never say another word to me again, and then take that letter I signed for you and stick it up your ass." I left, satisfied, but I've gone back a few times with friends. He always sees me and goes in back when I come in. My friends have called the GameStop corporate offices a couple of times to complain on him for the way he treats his employees in front of customers. The other one here has this one black guy who will just NOT shut up. I'm browsing their under $20 PC games, seeing if they had a copy of Jack The Ripper. I told the dude I was just looking at some cheap PC games, and he would...not...shut...up about this one game, Battlefield or some crap. I told him that wasn't my kind of game at all, but he just kept pestering me. Finally I had to just tell him to please leave me alone so I could browse. I don't like going to GameStop if I can help it. I prefer Comp USA MUCH better for PC games (I picked up City Of Heroes there for TEN bucks!), and I'll go say hi to my buds at either Game X Change or Vintage Stock for my used needs.

Actually, there's a little Chinese buffet just right down the street less than a mile from the hotel, right near Riverside. I've eaten there lots, and it's not bad at all. They don't have the Mongolian styled cooks, though, but still, it's got some of the best lo-mein and sesame chicken around. You can eat there for around 10 bucks a person.

Your setup is one I always look forward too, PDF. I loved last year's (especially the little tabletop games, I hadn't played one of those in YEARS). Can't wait to see what you have in store for us this year!
  22. Hell, I'll take Psycho Fox over any Master System rare game anyday. It is still one of the best platformers ever made. Ok, so maybe I wouldn't take it over Phantasy Star, but I already have that one. It kicked lotsa ass, too.
  23. I remember the day I bought CT. Our local Media Play was going out of business. They had, get this, 80 percent off ALL SNES games. Sweet. I picked up CT and RoboTrek for like 15 bucks or something. CT took me quite a while to get through, especially with ALL those crazy alternate endings, but it sure was fun. RoboTrek was surprisingly fun too for such a lighthearted game.
  24. If I remember correctly, both Zillion games are hard to find nowadays, as is the Fantasy Zone maze game. WB3 is pretty common, though. None of those Genesis games are really rare, though. TJ&E are both great games, however. I spent hours and hours on the first one.
  25. Agreed, a tie between the 800XL and the C64. I love my C64, and play stuff on it all the time, but the 800XL sure did have some incredible arcade ports. I still get a charge out of the Pac-Man port.
