First release of Resident Evil 3?
2600Lives replied to King Atari's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I'm pretty sure it was the one with Dino Crisis. I remember the day RE3 came out. I was working at a game shop at the time in fact, but we weren't getting any new copies, so, me being the manager, sent one of my employees across the street to Toys R Us to get everyone a copy (he wanted to go of course). He comes back empty handed. Why? The asshole running the game section wouldn't sell it to him because he was only 17 (and less than a month shy of 18), so I had to go get the damn thing myself, but I DID give that guy a piece of my mind. Too bad Joseph Lieberman wasn't there too so I could kick him in the beanbag. -
I believe it was a Japanese only release, as I don't remember seeing anything about it being released in the US, but I dunno honestly.

Video game crash: could it happen?
2600Lives replied to 7800Lover's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yes, Ubisoft who gave us the WONDERFUL XIII. Just finished it and DAYAM what a kick ass game. Keep it strong, Ubisoft! -
Video game crash: could it happen?
2600Lives replied to 7800Lover's topic in Modern Console Discussion
There won't be another game crash unless someone invents some new technology that totally reinvents the way games are played (say a TRUE interactive virtual environment or something similar), and that's a LONG way off, if even in our lifetimes. Games are too integrated into our culture now for the market to crash again. It'd be like the car market crashing. Not gonna happen. I don't remember there being a 100 million budget summer release movie being made about Yar's Revenge, but now there are and have been several VERY successful video game tie in ventures, such as movies. And look, one of the MAJOR players in the industry, Sega, all but died, and no real harm came of it. -
What you favorite early 90s doomed systam?
2600Lives replied to Towelie's topic in Classic Console Discussion
3DO all the way. I love mine, and still play it from time to time (AD&D Slayer and Deathkeep can still suck me in and keep me for days on end). Any attendees to this years OKGE can also drop by my table and try out a couple of 3DO games, as I'll be lugging it with me. -
WOW, good find on the Discworld! That's amazing for 5 bucks. I own both 1 and 2, and boy oh boy, was 2 ever hard to come by. I own Psychic Detective for the 3DO, so I never looked for it for the PSX. I guess I'm gonna have to check out GameStop's Playstation stock more often...

Hot Dog! Hot Dog! Hot Dog! Hot Dog! Hot Dog!
2600Lives replied to Jasoco's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I'm pretty sure I saw Jack Purvis in that crowd, too. You may remember him from the old (and absolutely WONDERFUL) movie, Time Bandits. And yes, it's one of the best commercials I've seen in a LONG time. Kudos to Nintendo for not totally pandering to the pre-teens in their ad campaigns. -
My first post: Soon, I'll play a 7800 for the first time
2600Lives replied to 52007800's topic in Atari 7800
I suggest you try Ninja Golf, too. Very few games today can claim to have such absurd subject matter, and I for one enjoyed the hell out of the game (despite what a lot of people say). -
GameCube controllers... which ones DON'T suck?
2600Lives replied to Jess Ragan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I recommend the official Nintendo ones, too. For the most part, I like third party controllers, but I have yet to find one for the GC that's as good as the original. Playing XIII, the stick is sensitive enough to let me juuuuuust inch the crosshairs along to line up headshots and such. -
It's an older game, but I highly recommend the Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast. VERY excellent Diablo clone, and with a decent storyline to boot. Tons of enemies on screen at once, too. For true duneon crawls, though, I go way back and get stuff like Dungeon Magic and Swords and Serpents out. Hehe. Nothing like the pseudo 3-D graphics and unbelievable difficulty!

Agreed that Double A should be in a legends game. And maybe Flair has some sort of contract barring him from being in a Legends game? Who knows. I'd like to resurrect the Brainbusters, with Heenan as manager and Anderson and Blanchard as the tag champs.

What new TV games would you like to see?
2600Lives replied to killersquirel's topic in Modern Console Discussion
A lot of people on these boards bash those little joystick games, but I for one think they're a great idea. They let a whole new generation of kids enjoy what TRUE gaming was all about, and without having to buy a whole new console to do so. Just plunk down a 20 and get some batteries and you're good to go. I don't own any (as I've got most of the games they have on those things for my consoles anyway), but I still think they're cool. -
At FYE (For Your Entertainment, used to be Camelot Music, mostly a mall store). I'm not sure if it's a nationwide chain or not, but I meandered in today and was perusing the GameCube section. I noticed a BUNCH of games on half price or more. The Return of the King was selling for 19.99, the cheapest I've ever seen it, and there were many more titles. I picked up Return of the King and XIII for 20 bucks each. Not too bad really. Speaking of XIII, who's played this? It's a TOTALLY awesome game. I'm just a few levels into it and I'm already completely hooked on the twisting conspiracy storyline, and the comic-styled paneled cut scenes are very well done. Any opinions on this game?

Now if we could only get GameStop to go out of business....
-
Actually, no, since David Von Erich is still alive (at least last time I checked he was), but because Kerry defeated Ric Flair for the title while I was IN the crowd as a very small kid, and could have had a career rivaling Flair's own had he not had that motorcycle accident. What do you consider legend material, then? Who are the legends? JYD? Roberts? Hogan? RVD? (laughs).
-
Well, while I certainly agree that Kerry and David Von Erich are true legends, yeah, Ricky Morton isn't exactly legend material. I think the biggest problem with the original Legends games were the lackluster gameplay. It's VERY boring to play, unlike say, No Mercy or WM19. The create-a-wrestler feature (one thing I always go to first as I use it as an indication of whether the game will be decent or not) also is really lacking (again, unlike No Mercy and WM19). Anyway, I too would like an honest review of the Showdown game if anyone has had any decent playtime with it.

What is this thing called for the Commodore 64?
2600Lives replied to Coleco Kong's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
I bought a working tape drive at a thrift store for 30 cents. Lol. I've got a few programs for it, but only a few of them actually work (and O....M....G...is it SLOOOOOOOOOW.). I think the magnetic tape has degraded on most of the tapes. -
Hey, don't be knocking Ninja Golf dammit! Any game that combines NINJAS and...GOLF, frickin' rules the universe! Hiiiiiyaaaa......fore! And honestly, I was never a fan of the "handheld joystick". Mounted joysticks are just fine and dandy, but I personally thought that the introduction of the control pad was a godsend, as your hand didn't freeze into a claw shape from gripping a joystick for hours on end. You just got sore and blistered thumbs. Lol.
-
That totally sucks if it's worse than the other Legends wrestling games. I've seriously wanted to get ahold of this, as I'm a wrestling fan from WAY back (I ONLY bought the first Legends game because you could play Kerry Von Erich). Oh, well, if it totally blows, at least we've got the new WWE game to look forward to coming out.

Great vintage video game commercials
2600Lives replied to doubledown's topic in Classic Console Discussion
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The Vanguard one is THE funniest thing I have EVER seen! "Luther destroys the Gond!" I'd have changed some of Luther's "dialogue", though. "HA HA HA! Luther like veedeeo games! HA HA HA! Football! Luther hungry! Eat little brother brains! HA HA HA!" -
I too find no humor in this. It's THESE guys who are the bank managers who deny the loans of people like US who post on these boards, folks. It's these "nerds" who own the hotels and retail stores and get rich off of OUR 9 to 5 money. I wasn't old enough to be in that crowd as a youngun, but I did own a pair of bell bottoms in the early 80's. Lol. And that black Defender shirt it SWEET.

What was your first video game system ever??
2600Lives replied to vintagegamer89's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Atari Super Pong Christmas of 79, then a 2600 Christmas of 81 I believe. Maybe 82, don't really remember. Anyway, the pong broke years ago, but my 2600 is the original one, except for of course, the joysticks. -
Midway doesn't completely hate the cube
2600Lives replied to Avid Fan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Well, since barring Star Fox 2, none of those games you mentioned are ones I have any interest in, I'll still wait for what I wanna play later down the line. And looking at an advert this month, it looks like the Cube will also be getting X-Men Legends, and that's VERY cool. Oh, the new WWE game for the Cube looks TOTALLY sweet. -
You've waited nearly twenty years for this!
2600Lives replied to Jess Ragan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Barring the horrible Evolution, I thought that the Turok games were all very well done. I will miss those, especially since they somehow managed to make a game license outlive it's comic book origin by a LONG margin. And yeah, they put out some horrible stuff, but it's still a piece of the 8-bit era that's gone forever, and I say that's a bad thing. -
Midway doesn't completely hate the cube
2600Lives replied to Avid Fan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Well, at least us Cubers are getting a FEW decent titles in the next few months. The Cube is the only next-gen system I own, since I mostly think that games coming out today are all flash and sound and NO substance. Metroid Prime changed all that the first time I played it, though. Now, we're getting Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 2, and Mortal Kombat: Deception. Two of those are console exclusives, too. I love my Cube, but I too wish more quality games were available for it. Oh, forgot about Paper Mario 2! How could I forget about that?! Anyway, I'll just hold my breath till the next Zelda game comes out and totally destroys all in it's path.
