  1. For retro-fans who don't know the original game, here is a link to a video with an owner. Maybe some of you know it, but for me, it was completely new; few arcades in the UK. Did you ever play this, or for that matter, does anybody know a retired tail-gunner? https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/10237/the-u-s-air-forces-last-tail-gunner-has-retired This is the sort of retro-reimagining which I hope to see for many titles in the future. 🙂
  2. That was originally a 2007 Wii game, and on Wii uses motion controls and it's colourful. It would be a good match with the Amico controllers. It was similar to Super Monkey Ball which came out on the Gamecube, then Wii. I'm not sure if such 3D games would be wanted on the Amico which aims at 2D. ???
  3. A surprise new release today - TailGunner game. - $4.99, 108 MB, and I already bought this one! I love the art-style on this... great. It's not anime, as such, but it's very cool. Lots of speech. There is a nice tutorial on using the classic joystick! Thankfully one can also inverse the Y-axis. 🙂 It is also, so far, quite difficult to get used to, but it also supports a mouse/trackball, and more. The classic joystick twist is used to change the direction, to steer the plan - that's super cool! Atari announcement on Facebook says... "Embrace your fight AND flight in #Tailergunner, now available on the #AtariVCS Store! Inspired by the iconic arcade classic of the same name, Tailgunner tests your aerial combat skills, featuring 10 modes! Do you have what it takes to avoid the watery grave?! Rack up high scores to become the most notorious gunner of all-time! Fully optimized for use with the Atari VCS Wireless Classic Joystick." The official developer web-site is here. https://www.grizzly-machine.com/tailgunner I think some historical reading-up makes this game even more interesting. https://www.usni.org/magazines/naval-history-magazine/2013/may/rear-seat-gunners-midway
  4. I got my unit 2 days ago. The power switch worked, but I had no games. Today, after a postal delay, I got some games. Of course, I pressed the power button, and it will hardly move. WTF. 😢 So now I do not know if my new console and the games work or not. I have bad luck with equipment generally. If it can be DOA, I get one, but I believe the seller when he said it works, but no display without a cartridge I believe - and now I can't turn the thing on. I'm sad now. This isn't quite new, LOL! "Made in France", no RGB socket, #802423.
  5. Personally I'd rather have a new VCS style case for my Atari 7800. It's so uninspired to me. I like the 2600 Jr case, but the 7800, just looks boring, and the slot location is inconvenient. All that flat angled plastic space on top? They could have used it for something cool / useful. Likewise, as much as I love my Jaguars, a VCS style case would be much cooler. Also black! On the other hand, since I put the VCS next to my Jaguar, I realised the Jaguar grooves are kind of the same retro tribute, as on the new VCS, but front to back instead of left to right. As a Sinclair ZX Spectrum also has a rainbow across the corner, when a rainbow just meant that the machine had colour, I like colours on a machine, but I much prefer the black 7800. I do like grooves though... The Acorn Atom case could inspire an Atari VCS all-in-one computer with integral keyboard!
  6. No official announcement for this... I just read (via Facebook) about another game coming for the VCS. No ETA yet. (Honestly I'm not a fan of the "art style", but I can see it could be a lot of fun.) "Muffed is a fast-paced top-down twin stick shooter for 1-16 players! Enter the Co-Op Campaign as a test subject to take down Dr Wolfe and anyone else in your way, or fight your friends in PvP games. Over 50 weapons, giant headphones that give you slaying power, and... is that a drone?" The developer web-site is here: https://muffed.kelsam.net/
  7. How about split-screen, that's the usual way we did it on older consoles before online play... I think 2-4 player split-screen would work really well for an Angry Birds type game... and each player could also see their own progress, any power-ups, etc. on their mini-screen. 🙂 Also I'd like a version where instead of button mashing, you could just shake the controller! Finally a version where you could do something like on the Wii, and blow onto the controller Mic.
  8. There is a likely a thread in this forum for useful topics, so a search should find the answers. 🙂 For the BIOS password, there is a whole thread... and it is listed in the thread, as Leech wrote.
  9. Watch this video while you can! It made me smile/laugh anyway. He combined 2 things I love... ha ha.
  10. Meanwhile, Atari are making significant new partnerships for that. Sadly, mobile only to-date. Shaun the Sheep, for a happier world. 🙂 https://www.aardman.com/aardman-atari-shaun-sheep-rollercoaster-tycoon-touch/
  11. This is a new article about the VCS, from a few days ago, and it's a much better idea of what it is. It's clear that developers already noticed it, but now it seems that bigger media also noticed what it is. https://www.techradar.com/news/atari-vcs-release-date-games-price-and-everything-you-need-to-know
  12. This web-based development platform runs as a native app via Chrome browser! I've been playing around with this tool. Very nice. (There IS a FREE edition as well.) You can build games and run them directly on the VCS, and build for other platforms. https://www.construct.net/en You can't run the tool in application mode, but it runs just fine in the browser mode.
  13. Another Backer's Onyx finding a new home, with a happy Crystal Castles player. After some confusion setting it up, it got hooked up to an HDMI projector. Yeah!
  14. Well, I don't mind waiting and staying alive. 🙂 I'm not so fanatic for video-games... 🙂 A younger female friend of mine was in hospital for 3 weeks, just avoided ICU. Other friends had it, but just sick at home. Here, in The Netherlands, far fewer deaths, but hospitals were almost at capacity, so we also have a 9pm to 4:30am curfew. Take care, keep safe, good luck!
  15. In other threads, discussions exist about the non-4K streaming of video via the Chrome "links" on the VCS. I'd just add some information on how this situation can improve, without native apps needing to be installed. Web-assembly, for those unfamiliar with it, is rather like a new version of Java, but it runs in the browser, not as an app. It's on-demand, it loads with the page, effectively, and it compiles into native machine code. A lead Netflix engineer made a presentation about how they intend to use it now it's mainstream, for speed. This old article gives some insights: https://thenewstack.io/ready-web-assembly-revolution/ I'm not saying Web-Assembly will solve the 4K streaming speed. I'm saying it could, and I think it's likely. I don't have the inside track any more than (most of?) you do, but I think this is the direction things heading! (Who would have believed a couple of years ago that we could play/stream AAA games, via a web-browser?)
  16. I don't own anything in the Sony PSn line, and as I have several PC/Xbox/Android Bluetooth controllers, I'm hoping to get lucky! If the 2nd-hand video-games store was open, I might take a walk along, to try that, but all such shops will be closed well into March... 😕 I'm hoping one will work without ordering online and praying to the post/delivery gods that I might get it before the shops reopen. Thanks for the advice though!
  17. I think this complete customisation of controls is the best for any game on the VCS to-date!
  18. Yes, it turns out that I had missed the control options in the game, but by default, A is jump, and B is fire, on the classic controller. (Not shown in the game, but it works with A and B as indicated.) (Phone screenshot...)
  19. Hi all, I was looking for a long time to get a Philips g7400 and now I believe I have a working one coming. I looked in this forum for some answers, without success, so I apologise if the answer is well-known. - if the keyboard membrane becomes faulty, is there a way to replace this? (I saw repair ideas.) - has anybody exchanged the membrane for a full replacement keyboard, even only as a project. - is there any way to get the g7420 to operate in the g7000/Odyssey2 mode, with Videopac+ games? - if I want to run my own code, is there any cartridge I can ACTUALLY get to do this, or only via eproms? - Has anybody made videos of all the Videopac+ games running in g7000 and enhanced g7400 mode? Thank you for any help. Richard.
  20. I'm not sure about a delay yet. German retailers still list it for delivery on 2nd April 2021. As Germany is the other Intellivision HQ, for Europe, maybe even EU gets the console first! https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/product/_amico™-first-edition-sonstige-konsolen-2651349.html Actually, I'd be very happy with a summer release, but I think reviewers need h/w earlier... I didn't get any news otherwise on my online pre-order, but April does seem a huge challenge.
  21. Did you try this also with wired controllers or Xbox controllers? I have not used this yet, and I planned to look over the weekend, but I was busy... maybe tonight. As you didn't supply a link I had to read-up a bit. Looks good. https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2020/08/18/geforce-now-open-a-chromebook/ I love the irony of using this Nvidia service with a specifically AMD partnered system, AMD APU...
  22. A useful video playing the game, by Retro Rob. He likes the game too.
  23. I never saw that project before - I have the first Rayman game from day#1 release on Atari Jaguar, but the prospect of that game on AtariOS looks slim, reading the FAQ for the game, but it will work fine I think on the VCS via PC-mode, and at least with the VCS, we have that option. I LOVE that... The frustrating with this is it says the game is made with GameMaker2, and that can build Linux binaries which would work on the Atari VCS. There is already a game on the VCS which was made with that tool. It would definitely be worth asking the developer, but they seem pretty clear. Yes, GameJolt might help. The game was released on 19.6.2020. The game was build and tested on Windows 10, so other compatability is not currenty guaranteed. FAQ 1. What is Rayman Redemption? Rayman Redemption is a fangame reimagination of the original Rayman game from 1995. 2. Is the game free? Yes. 3. What engine does the game use? Game Maker Studio 2. ... 8. Will there be a mac / linux / mobile / switch / ps4 /... -ports? No. If you're on Mac or Linux, try using Wine to run the game.
  24. The majority of people would say a Bluetooth Xbox controller. They work well. I found that that Nintendo Pro Controller works perfectly well as a substitute for most things. All is well, except for button names - A/B, X/Y swapped, but bottom button still bottom button. Oh, and a different position for the 2nd analogue stick, but that's a matter of personal taste. The - button is back, + is menu (=), and the Wii-U Home maps to the Atari VCS Home too. Also, it does not wake-up the VCS, so far, like the official one does, from sleep, at this time. There is a thread about controllers... with more details.
  25. I realised that this is not correct. The game has the 2nd button mapped to secondary weapon, but better still, all the controls can be modified in the options. I wish all the games had that... I thought before it needed a fix for the final version, but I had just missed the option...
