  1. Hello, Just a reminder... You can get all the best Jaguar home-brews (with the exception of BadCoder's stuff which MUST be downloaded from his site by his request for tracking) from the Jaguar home-brew group. All the files are on that group by permissions of the authors as well. Join, and look under the files area. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jaguar-homebrew/ Cheers, JustClaws.
  2. Yes, I can understand that, but that does not mean that the GoodJag people (who should know better) should list home-brew code and commercially available titles as PD in any case! I think this thread should help... and AA has it for download too. http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.p...ghlight=ladybug Cheers, JustClaws.
  3. Hello, Perhaps each developer can update which demos are PD and which are not. I think that 99% are actually not freeware, but have the condition that agreed redistribution is permissable. BadCoder I know forbids redistribution, requesting that all binaries are downloaded from his site directly for tracking. I know he was very disheartened when this was ignored. (I know also that he cannot post messages on AtariAge.) Also, redistribution of GORF and things like that were not allowed, without express prior permission, and I think that Matthias and others had expressed the explicit condition that only free distribution (of some binaries) is allowed and nobody should profit from the distribution of demos. I remember reading that among other ROMs, T'bird has seen BattleSphere available on P2P services, as a dumped ROM, but (touch wood) to-date no post Atari release seems to be available for download or on a CD. Personally, this is what troubles me about emulation. It leads to uncontrolled redistribution of ROMs and of demos which are not PD, without respect for copyright. Regards, JustClaws.
  4. Hello, I think you're right, Goodset was mentioned. Badset to me though! I know from a fellow Jaguar developer that they ignore all requests. They likewise refuse to rename their .JAG extension used for Jaguar ROM dumps to something which does not clash with the standard for Jaguar Server/BJL uploads. .JAG is a file-type with a JS/BJL header. I previously suggested their ROMs be called .ROM or .J64, but it was also ignored without even the courtesy of a reply. If you have any idea how to get a reply, or to change the wrong (PD) tag, please do! I'm amused that tiny games like Franglais Bounce are not listed, but multiple versions of other binaries are, rather misleading eh? Thanks, JustClaws.
  5. Hello, Having seen an advert on Ebay for a CD-ROM with 139 Jaguar ROMs on it, for Jaguar emulation purposes, I've asked the seller for a list of the ROMs included. Here it is. As usual, many of the ROMs are not ROMs, and also not PD... Regards, JustClaws. 6. Hello Starcat, This is TERRIBLE news, you must go to the German police about this! I am sure that this refund, claiming no delivery, must be investigated. I had thought that the dealer maybe only intended to scare you, he could not possible get his money back when he has the goods, and you have proof of delivery. Obviously the dealer knows a loop-hole. I will be interested to read what the few nay-sayers have to say to you, I think everybody in the community should rally round you... no matter what deal was claimed, this is straight-forward theft now. Best regards, JustClaws.
  7. Hey! Doug / Thunderbird (Captain Awesome) is high bidder on the 3rd give-away-abuse-auction for Ocean Depths, and 6 days to go! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8106274645 No comment, it's a surprising turn of events to me. JustClaws.
  8. While I remember - I should tell everybody. The dealer cancelled all auction bids close to the first closing auction, saying as an excuse "error on auction listing" but it's relisted the same. Make of that what you will. Cheers! JustClaws.
  9. Sadly yes. I did though. At least you don't have to pay, Jason is picking up the hosting fee for the forum himself. No fear that I will leave JI-II development or AA though. Personally I think each topic should be mirrored between the forums, so everybody can express their views freely! (Not the posts mirrored, but some of the big topics.) Cheers! JustClaws.
  10. You really should read his amusing Rolex watch advert! I have bid on one with StarCat's approval, we will see if he delivers... I may also find out what he's saying to other purchases, very useful. Regards, JustClaws.
  11. The Hot Wheels/Matchbox physics would have been fine if all the scenarios had been designed for radio control cars. However, only one scenario (the house) is directly compatible with that scenario, and the stunt park might comply. However, San Francisco? Hmmm... selective memory applied I think... I agree though that an RC car scenario as later done with "Revolt" (itself an awful game, badly implemented), would indeed have been great. Just don't try to rewrite history to explain the faults of Club Drive as features! Two player mode is quite fun if you can get somebody to play it with you, but I usually find (even back in 95) that people shunned the offer due to the poor models, glitchy 3D models, awful textures where used... sadly. It was widely accepted at the time of release that it was unfinished, even with Don Thomas, and if you bought it on release you'd remember that! JustClaws.
  12. Um... I've been on-line regularly all week, StarCat would confirm! So you're telling me you don't have the cable and CD then I guess. :'-( Oh [email protected] I do you a favour with a cable at < cost, and now I'm out of pocket on the postage and a cable. This isn't working well! JustClaws.
  13. Hmmm.... I sent you a hand-made BJL cable and CD-R over a week ago. Maybe they are in the same place where you lost my email address and ICQ number to ask me this question directly eh? Don't trust the Dutch post! JustClaws.
  14. Personally I think Club Drive graphics are OK (they would just have benefited from a bit of work to make sure the polygon clipping was better) but the problem for me is the camera, and the physics. The car is far too light, it all too easily flips over, and you can easily get into stupid situations where the car keeps falling off some edge, and the game puts it back on, and it falls off, and the game puts it back on, and it falls off... and you just have to sit and watch while the camera has a heart attack! I agree that the Club Drive polygon models are farcical though. The graphics used for the occasional texture mapped surface are dire too, (placeholder art left in the game due to Tramiel release date pressure in my opinion), and would have been better omitted - apart from the pong on the TV. :-) Really, the game was a graphical loser from day#1, it did not look as good as the Lynx version did, and that was what people were expecting at the time... Lynx Blue Lightning converted to Jaguar, taking advantage of the extra power... but instead the game looks worse, and the gameplay is no less simplistic. I remember the day of the JagCD release, and the feedback on the old Jaguar mailing-list was very very negative to BL. (That's *not* to say I don't enjoy playing it though, but it is a bit masochistic.) Some better attention to graphics would have helped though, they are just badly (hand) drawn in most cases - they could have been twice as good, more variety too, had the graphics for the destroyed versions been omitted completely - they'd have saved half the memory space for graphics - each item could simply have been replaced by a fireball (or better a fireball placed in front of the target graphic,) that stayed on screen a little longer - because most of the time the burnt-out tank or ship disappears off the bottom of the screen very quickly in any case. Imagine if they'd made each graphic a slightly larger pre-rendered (or photo sourced) half-frontal image, rather more like an iso-metric 3D image) and they'd cut-down the size of the big background graphics. (Also imagine if the colour scheme was a bit more subtle and planes had another couple of frames of animation to make movement more realistic - achieved by creating graphics for only half the angles and setting the mirror bit on each sprite when it's necessary - meaning no more RAM used.) Imagine if trees and rocks were photo sourced too! That sort of design decision in my opinion is what so disappointed... and why Blue Lightning as a game is fun but fundamentally flawed at a graphics level where Club Drive is fatally flawed by physics... Cheers, JustClaws.
  15. Hello, Yes, exactly! Like Carmageddon on Jaguar for instance. If it's that bad on the N64, with it's higher polygon rendering abilities, just imagine how bad it could be ported to Jaguar... Now you're getting the idea. Normally people fantasize about the games they have being better, I'd be quite interested to know if people really fantasize about their worst games as well... weird! Just imagine if new Atari Jaguar games were still coming from Atari, with the same questionable decisions being made. It's not about improving them, it's about looking again at old judgements! Cheers, JustClaws!
  16. Hmmm... I have a question. I was just wondering... somebody is selling a copy of Blue Lightning on Ebay, as if often the case, and describes it as "so bad you would [not] believe [it]! buy it for a laugh" http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=8104070365 So my question is... what is the (hypothetical) WORST game you'd buy? --- Club Drive - The Lost Missions (e.g. Club Drive with all the faults, the awful handling, jittery graphics, but all new (bad) locations maybe, such as the upstairs of a house, a New York park, and a racing track. --- Trevor McFur - In the Galaxy Beyond (e.g. Trevor McFur with new graphics, some new (but similarly unbalanced weapons) and more of the same type of "last minute ideas for a boss" style end-game levels! --- Night Thunder - (e.g. Blue Lightning clone with night missions, but the same crummy 2D as 3D cardboard cut-out graphics and a whole host of new missions. The same awful voice acting included.) Obviously if any of these games really existed die-hard collectors would snap them up, but I wonder for most people, what would be a game that they would snap up today. Would you still buy Blue Lightning today if it was released, and would you really pay $50? Let's be clear - no wish lists for Club Racer (e.g. Club Drive with all bugs fixed, 2-player mode, and texture mapping) I'm talking about the very same games that were worst on Jaguar (or were even OK games, but you didn't want to show your friends because they were too inept and might damage your Jaguar's reputation) either released new today, or in a new version with same faults. Imagine if Telegames said tomorrow that they have Graham Gooch cricket (complete with 256 colour graphics and low-res graphics) would you really be keen to have it, or would you be only buying it because you'll buy anything as a collector. Well? Just wondering... I'd buy Blue Lightning still if I didn't have it, not as a collector, but because I think it's quite fun actually... not sure if I'd buy Night Thunder though for all night missions, but the pop-up and near horizon would work better at night... lots of things could be disguised and excused perhaps then!!! I bet you'd not buy them for your Xbox would you? If a port of Blue Lightning came out, would you buy it, glitches and all? No? If you answer no, I guess you're not so keen on the game really! The worst I game I own is on N64 - it must be Carmaggedon! What's the worst game you own on any platform, and would you like to see it on the Jaguar? Hypothetically only of course! Just wondering... JustClaws.
  17. Congratulations! Perhaps you can celebrate by adding the missing "L" to the word "controllers" on your profile sub-caption/motto. :-) It's been good seeing you around here too. Cheers, Richard.
  18. I'm not sure it's totally dead, I think Fred was working with some French developers (among the French Connexion group) on projects, this may be one of them. Fred was working with me in Team Franglais, on Bounce+, and JTO was related to the same code-base, you might see something yet. Personally though, I'm not a sports fan, so I couldn't code a sport game, you'd need to be really keen on some sport. How about "Pro Bar Tour" TM. Pro Bar Tour Game Concept ©JustClaws. You get to control a pro-drinker, taking him or her from bar to bar, in each bar you face new obstacles to the basic game-play. You start off simply enough in a nice friendly local bar, where you can either drink alone, or buy a round. Just remember whose round it is, and who bought the drinks. Other drinkers will come and go, and you have to watch your pint does not get taken by another drinker, or the barman. Play as a man and you have more capacity for booze (at least at first), but play as a woman and you'll get drinks bought for you more quickly, so you can drink for free more often, which will help you score higher fast! Each evening is a new level, and you can also choose your bars, and at a few levels, progress to a new town. A nightclub offers extended gameplay in all the bigger towns, but drinks cost more, and there are more risks. After a while you have to take the bonus round, of a visit to the toilets, but don't take too long, or you'll miss out on somebody else's round, or worse, lose your bar stool. In some bars, you may face extra problems. e.g. a cabaret act, perhaps an erotic dancer if you've entered the "adult code" first. These will only make your course to the toilets more vague! In all the bars, you may get chatted up by a woman or a man (you can play as a man or a woman), be nice, you don't want them to complain to the bouncers. Also be careful walking through the bar, bump into too many other drinkers, and the bouncers will throw you out, and you may or may not be able to get into the next bar, or you might have to take the rough bars rather than the nice bars, and there the other drinkers can be rough, and there may be more pick-pockets. You'll have a budget for the evening, of course, (so make sure you look after your wallet, watch out for pick-pockets) and so to achieve a high score you need to maximum the drinking before the other bar players buy their rounds. If you've still got a drink when they buy, you'll miss out. Run out of money, and have no round credits, and the level ends early. As you drink more, you'll have to visit the toilet more, or if you want to increase your consumption, you can switch from beer to shorts. With shorts, you can drink more, but your player will become much more difficult to control much more quickly, so your "capable drinking time" meter will drop much more quickly. All the time you play, you'll be getting more drunk, so the controls will become much harder to use. As you get more drunk your romance bonus meter will rise, but your romantic appeal meter drops. Thus, if you manage to attract a suitable player to you, you'll score big-time bonuses, next time you visit that bar you'll get bonus drinks for sure. Generally avoid more than one romantic connection in each bar though! To achieve these romantic connections you need to respond to random events which pop-up over other players. Reaction time, and pressing the correct button for the action is essential! Too slow, or the wrong button, and you might get the wrong reactions... To down a beer quickly, you'll press two keys, like the classic sports games, to make the drink go down more quickly. To down a short, it's all to do with timing, you get points not for speed, but for style. Keep the rhythm, or you'll spill it though, and if you drink too fast, you could be sick. (The bouncers will throw you out, and the fresh air affects you...) The game can be played by one player, or up to 4 players using a split screen. Each player can see how drunk they look with a little cameo pop-up picture of themselves using drunk-o-vision distortions. (Use your own photo-fit image, or on a suitable system, a photo from a webcam!) At the end of the night, you've got to go home to your mother or spouse (you can choose, different risks depending on the play options), and depending on your performance it will be game-over, or through to the next level! (Remember, each level is an evening. If you complete a level when too drunk, you may have a hang-over the next day - cut scenes show you that, and the danger is you'll lose your job. You play a test to keep it.) The game can end in various ways, of course, but it's going to be classic arcade action when somebody codes this cool idea into a real production! I've got all sorts of bonus rounds planned out, things like the "hey I'm so drunk I think I can dance" bonus, the "hey I'm so drunk I think I can sing Karaoke" bonus, the "How fast can I eat the bar snacks" round, the "Must have a take-away" end of level bonus game (if you're sober enough, and have still got cash), the "how about a game of darts" round, the "how about a game of pool" round, (both high-risk, big score rounds, because if you hit somebody with a dart, or tear the felt on the table, you'll be out of the door with the help of the bouncers, and banned from the nicer bars), and finally, the "how about a game of table-top Alien Intruders" round. No first-person 3D graphics needed here, 2D and some isometric 3D and cut-scenes will do just fine. It will make a nice complement to Tapper. :-) If any video game company staff are reading this, I've had a ton of similarly cool adult video game ideas from time to time, I'm willing to license my ideas in exchange for a modest sum. :-) (Or free Humvee!) Cheers, JustClaws.
  19. The error has gone away, seems USANetHosting fixed their server issue. Hurrah! JustClaws.
  20. Hello, I just found this fault too, so came looking to see if I was alone. Having checked the server logs, it seems that most of the time the server cannot run CGI scripts, due to some non-JI2 fault. Sometimes it works, but the server gets "permission denied" internally, and fails without even starting the script. There was no change to the code on the system, it's purely server side. :[email protected] I hate AtariHQ having USANetHosting.Com as their host... JustClaws.
  21. In part, I can agree with you on this, in the future I will need some shells to use with new PCB's containing game code, and it seems that no shells are available unfortunately for such projects, so getting hold of some broken cartridges (and I've never had a broken cartridge - ever!) would be a great option, as I don't want to scrap any existing valid games either. My problem with your proposal would be making copies of games which are really (still) available from retailers, they've supported the Jaguar in bad times and hung onto stock taking the risk that the price would rise. I bought most of my games new from a UK retailer as they came out, and I paid 60 GBP for several of them, because that was Atari's UK price. (The same price for Iron Soldier II cartridge just a couple of years ago...) So if anybody has such cartridges, I am not alone in having a use for them, Matthias Domin also needs them I think, and other Underground developers may too, all for new original games, and not for "copies". I do see what Greenious means though, there are people out there with Flash ROMs who undoubtedly use them only to play games they don't own, rather than to play lost betas, or development, I see the issue. However, that does not make piracy acceptable, and it seems really unnecessary when you CAN get Jaguar games affordable if you hunt around, and there's satisfaction in finally tracking a title down isn't there? Cheers, JustClaws.
  22. Hello! It's b--a--c--k--!!! It lives again... Why not welcome AtariHQ CGF back with a message there... http://www.atarihq.com/wwwboard/ Remember if you have classic gaming links, (it's not just Atari 2600), then you can ask JustClaws for Brian or AtariHQ editor, we'll add it. We want the links there to be the premier jump-off for classic sites. Cheers, JustClaws.
  23. It's b-a-c-k !!! JustClaws. http://www.atarihq.com/interactive/
  24. The AtariHQ server has run out of space. Therefore the JI2 board cannot function, I cannot even upload a page saying "Sorry, JI2 down pending more space!" because it's too full. There is nothing I can do about this, my authority runs only to developing JI2 there. I hope they can come up with a solution, I've tried to help do so. It's sad to see my traditional favourite board incapacitated still... Cheers, JustClaws.
