Name the consoles you dislike (and why)
hepcat replied to ElectricTroy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The only system I really disliked was Colecovision. People used to rave about the games in my neighborhood, especially Donkey Kong, but I was never impressed. (To be fair, I think Donkey Kong is probably the most overrated game of all time, so even an arcade perfect port wasn't going to impress me.) But none of the other games seemed interesting either, with one exception, Looping, which I found impossible to play with the Colecovision's horrific controllers! The only thing positive thing I can say about them is that didn't break spontaneously, which is the only reason I rate them higher than the 5200 controllers. --Jason -
I Jumped into the Realm of Intellivision today....
hepcat replied to Mintyfresh's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I agree! Intellivision Burgertime is not only favorite Intellivision game, it's one of my favorite games for any system. --Jason -
I've heard it's a good idea to lose deliberately when you're close to a multiple of 1K. But I've never been able to implement this strategy effectively because as soon as I take my eyes off the bombs to see what my score is, I die! Tonight, I'm going to try following the bomber instead of the bombs and see what happens... Jason

999,999!!! No offense, but this is something I would have to see to believe. Does TG have videos of this accomplishment? --Jason
-
I feel alot better after reading this thread! When I practiced this game regularly a couple years ago, the highest I managed to get was 17,000. Now I know that wasn't so bad! What is the record on this one anyway? --Jason
-
I'm shocked that the 5200 controllers don't have a commanding lead in this poll. A friend of my got a 5200 back when it first came out and within a few weeks one of the controllers wasn't working. The only games I was able to play with any success were Dig Dug and Joust (on novice level). The Intellivision controllers were bad, but with practice you could get used to them. I did not own an Intellivision, but my friend did. We played it alot and he even lent it to me a couple times. After about five years, the controllers still worked perfectly! --Jason

Ebay ordered to pay 35 million in Patent case
hepcat replied to Kung Fu Guy's topic in Auction Central
Ebay would fight suits like this even if there were only one dollar at stake. There is now a judgment against Ebay saying that Ebay ripped off somebody's idea/patent re: online auctions. The blood this decision puts in the water will attact even more litigious sharks than Ebay already has to deal with. --Jason -
Ok, I admit writing that BEFORE I checked and saw that the final price was an astonishing $1,375. Still, I would probably open it to make sure I'd gotten what I'd paid for. --Jason
-
I would open it, check to make sure everything is there and throw away the shrinkwrap, even if I already had another loose copy of game. Shrink-wrapped games seem pointless to me; how do you a Combat cart isn't in there? --Jason

What's up with this BIZARRE feedback left by this person?
hepcat replied to MrRetroGamer's topic in Auction Central
Caution_Horse is obviously a Tori Amos fan. --Jason -
I don’t know if Atari made them, but I did get an extension cord in an Atari 2600 lot I won on Ebay a few weeks ago. I tested it with a few different joysticks and it worked fine. It’s pretty useless though for someone with eyes as bad as mine. --Jason
-
Yeah, that works too.
-
Just be patient Zeus. Almost every Atari item you could possibly want appears on Ebay over and over again. I probably lost a dozen auctions before I got my first 2600 off of Ebay. --Jason
-
I got my complete copy of Omega Race in a lot with a bunch of other games. I'm glad I didn't get caught in this free for all! It's an excellent game, but the booster controller does take some getting used to. --Jason

Hmm...maybe some people do have these kinds of problems with Mame32, but I never have. It probably helps that I have a pretty fast machine (PIV 1.3GHz) and rarely play games that came out after 1985. Of course, I'm happy to hear that I shouldn't have much trouble with the Atari 2600 emulator once I get my GP32. --Jason
-
Doesn't the GP32 emulate both NES and SNES? Then you could not only play SMB3 for NES, but also the version on SNES super mario all stars... And then you wouldn't have to wait for nintendo to hopefully release SMB 3. Emulators sound great in theory, but as a practical matter I’ve found them tricky to use (except for Mame32). I am well aware that the 2600 and NES emulators are works in progress for GP32, and I’m not expecting to have them up and running 5 minutes after the mailman delivers it. I’d rather just buy SMB3 for GBA now that Nintendo is finally releasing it rather than mess around with an emulator, at least for that particular game. --Jason
-
I couldn't agree more, MMF. Nothing should be changed except the addition of a save option. Here's hoping... --Jason
-
Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of the greatest video games ever made. I don't think it's overrated, indeed I can't praise it highly enough. About the only thing that could have improved it was a save option, since the game does takes about 8 hours to complete if you play every board. As for Nintendo's failure to release this game for GBA, I'm baffled and have been closely following the "debate" on whether Super Mario Advance 4 will be SMB3. The rumors that it will be SMB3 is the only thing that has kept me from selling my GBA to help pay for the GP32 I want. --Jason
-
Has anyone here dealt with a website called Play-Asia.com? I'm considering buying a back lit GP32 from them and they seem to be a bit cheaper than Lik-sang.com. Thanks! --Jason
-
There's probably quite a few people selling Atari items on Ebay solely for profit, but I'll bet most of them aren't happy with the results. I'm happy to almost break even buying and selling, and increasing my collection bit by bit along the way. I think I've gotten about 170 on Bowling. It's one of those games that must have a trick to it and I just haven't figured it out yet. --Jason

If you were to choose ONLY 1 Imagic game, what would it be?
hepcat replied to Osmeroid's topic in Atari 2600
That's the part I'm talking about. It goes from moderate difficulty to virtually impossible in one freakin' board! --Jason -

hepcat replied to Osmeroid's topic in Atari 2600
I'd have to go with Demon Attack. If we were including Intellivision carts in this, I'd go with Beauty & the Beast. Speaking of No Escape, does any have any hints/strategies they'd be willing to share on this game? Frankly, I think it's impossible. I don't think I ever made it past the third wave when I was a kid, and I spent a signifcant amount of time practicing it. --Jason -
Your favorite arcade game to play in an emulator?
hepcat replied to Room 34's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Mr. Do! My current high score on this one after practicing it on and off for a year and a half is 643,000. I've tried to download inp files from MARP to see how people who have scored over a million on this game do it, but I can never get the files to play back! --Jason -
Does everyone hate Intellivision or something?
hepcat replied to Brad2600's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I like the 2600 much better, but Burgertime alone is reason enough to own an Intellivision. --Jason -
name 2600 games you bought that sucked but you still played
hepcat replied to Shannon's topic in Atari 2600
Pac-man. The worst 2600 arcade port (after the hideous Donkey Kong Jr., of course). But I didn't have a choice because Asteroids was the only other game I had for months after getting my Atari. --Jason
