  1. This looks like a damn fine NES controller indeed! Do you know if they would work on PAL NES consoles as well? I'm located in Europe, that's why I'm asking.
  2. To anyone who's on a budget and wants to start their first retro gaming collection on authentic hardware and software, I would immediately advize them to go get an Atari 2600 Jr., get a pair of decent controllers and a box full of classic games like Missile Command, Robot Tank, Ms. Pacman, Frogger, Joust, Yar's Revenge, Berzerk, etc. The Atari 2600 was my gateway to retro gaming as a standalone hobby.
  3. Played Vectrex all weekend long. Mainly: 1. Berzerk 2. Protector 3. Solar Quest
  4. I used to play this before I had my GameBoy classic as a kid: SNARF for MS-DOS ! Anyone remember this game? :-)
  5. I sell the stuff I don't play any more. I'm probably going to sell my Intellivision collection.
  6. Wow.. Congratulations on this man. This looks wonderful.
  7. There, made my contribution the best way I could. Hope it helps. Great site by the way! Best of luck with that!

    VECTREX

I have 2 Vectrex consoles, one in working condition, one is dead but ready for major surgery to try and revive it. These are my games: - Armor...Attack - Bedlam - Berzerk - Cosmic Chasm - Fortress of Narzod - Hyperchase - Minestorm - Protector/YASI - Scramble (cart only) - Solar Quest - Space Wars - Spike - Star Castle (no box) Overall, I think the Vectrex is awesome. It has a gorgeous style that (for my taste) still holds up well today. There simply nothing like it. My only complaint about the Vectrex is that I can't play Tempest on it.... yet?
  9. I use an Excel spreadsheet. One thing I should still do is add realistic retail values of my games. I guess it would take me a while to complete that...
  10. The only thing that generally bothers me with iOS games are the controls. I like to feel buttons, you know :-)
  11. I would say I'm an other kind. And if I were to label it, I would say I like to be an "Improviser" :-) Generally, I like to make up my next move as I go along, in the heat of the moment. I like to stray away from the clear path the game dictates because this easily bores me, but I also like to keep the tempo up.
  12. Cool! Thanks for the heads-up! I might submit a few scores!
  13. This is so cool! Sadly, I don't have an iPad..
  14. I also have this same impression. It would certainly explain the price point of $200. I guess on one hand they perhaps don't want to step too much on the toes of people who invest a lot of money on AES hardware and software by setting the price high (even though we're probably talking about emulation here). And at the same time they probably want to "piggyback" on SNK's legacy of releasing expensive hardware and software in the past, in order to earn a few "easy" dollar in the present and future.
  15. Don't forget there are lots of ways to enjoy Neo Geo games. It's not all about AES. Personally I enjoy playing retro games on original hardware since I enjoy the whole experience of being able to touch and look at the old packaging artwork, using older hardware, using original controllers and what have you. But (and this is a personal choice) I can't bring myself to paying $ 200 per game (which would be the average price for a complete AES game - some are way more expensive though). So I preferred buying a Neo Geo CDZ instead. I think it's a great console. The load times aren't even all that bad, and mine has no problems with overheating or discs being unreadable. You can pick up Japanese copies of the games at a low to moderate price point, in good condition. Generally, I've your thinking about getting into Neo Geo (or a new console in general), I would advise you to play some games on emulation or buy some kind of current gen compilation, and then decide wether or not you want to invest the money to buy some original hardware and software. Or not, if that's not something you care about. I personally don't care about emulation, it doesn't really appeal to me, but I don't mind if other people love it. The most important thing is that you're having fun, regardless of your budget.
  16. I'll share with my personal top 8 (for what it's worth): 1. Tetris - what can I say. Perhaps the greatest and most iconic handheld game of all time. 2. Zelda: Link's Awakening - IMO the best action adventure on the classic Game Boy. I had a lot of fun playing this back in the day after falling in love with ALTTP on the SNES. 3. Wario Land - IMO the best platformer on the DMG-001 4. Metroid II - great handheld sequel to the NES classic 5. Kirby's Dreamland - first ever Kirby game if I'm not mistaken. Great fun! 6. Kid Icarus - solid port of the NES title. Difficult but still love this game to death. 7. Trip World - somewhat more obscure title from Sunsoft, but very original and great art direction 8. Batman - great music, solid gameplay, teriffic action platformer
  17. I wish I could play Tempest on the Vectrex one day
  18. Hey guys, I have a second Vectrex with a similar problem. The sound works, but image only shows a horizontal white stripe at the center of the screen. There seems to be some life in that stripe though. The Vectrex is now at a friend's house, who was willing to apply his skill in electronics to save the machine from certain death. So I showed him this thread, and based on the suggested solutions up here, we'll attempt to bring that Vectrex back to life. I'll post something as soon as I have more news.
  19. My NES and Neo Geo CDZ are both hooked up to a CRT and I love the crisp video they deliver on that tv. However, my TurboGrafX, SNES and Gamecube are hooked up to an LCD. Sure, image is not as crisp on LCD, but I can live with it though. the AV output from my TGX, SNES and GC seem to be of good quality so it translates fairly well on my LCD tv.
  20. While I'm not really into handheld gaming, I think I'll skip this one. It looks cool, and I'm a fan of the Neo Geo, but I think I'll stick with my Neo Geo CDZ collection I have right now. if I'd buy a Neo Geo handheld, I think i'd actually buy the NGPC instead. They have a lot of great and quirky titles on there, really unique.
  21. I would say that I play 99% of the games I buy and own. So that 1% represents the games that I bought just because they were so dirt cheap, not because I really wanted them. Generally, when I buy a new console, I do a bit of research to define what games are worth playing and owning. Those are really the only games I end up buying. So I'm not really a collector in that way.
  22. Looks awesome. I have Hyperchase, so I might consider buying one eventually. Do you know if he limits the quantity of the controllers he'll sell?
