I'll be curious to see how my SNES turns out. Its not the worst i've seen and its only on certain parts. Not the intire unit.

Was out driving the other day and saw something black sticking up out of a 32 gallon trash can. Thought it was something decent so stopped and found out it was a Sega branded Saturn wheel. Intact and in great shape. Stopped at a yard sale a few minutes later and picked up a SNES for $15. Not a bad day.

Goto youtube for retrobright tutorials. However, instead of using the recipe you can use Salon care 40 volume peroxide creme. A 32 Oz is about $3.00 at Sallys beauty supply. I just did this with my snes and nes 4 score. It brings the color right back by reversing the yellowing process caused by UV light. Good luck.
Nice! I'll give it a shot. Got any before and after pics of yours?

I'm curious. Has anyone actually discovered a color match for the gray and painted over the yellowing plastic? I'd be interested in what works and how.

Definitely must be for the computer line they had in the day. I wouldn't mind one for a console like the 5200 but wouldnt have any use for a display for a computer. Decent part of history worth saving.

I'll have to check. Not sure where the switch is. Tray closes and the eye bounces and moves like its seeking for a disc. What about the switch next to the motor that the eye comes in contact with when it comes all the way back? Does that have anything to do with it?
-
Was reading somewhere yesterday about this motor not spinning, a common problem on these all the way back to 1995. They said using a little oil solves the problem. Maybe i'll try that.
-
Went in yesterday and changed out the laser and tested, still nothing. Eye moves back and forth as if seeking but I noticed the disc doesn't turn. You can spin it but it wont turn on its own. Checked connections and decided to switch out the motor. Still nothing. What could cause this?
-
That is the correct drive. A Matsushita CR-563.
Sweet! i had a feeling. Picked it up yesterday for $5. Thought it was a bit much but if it'll get the 3DO working, it's well worth it.

Googled it and only came up with an old Creative cd drive. Not sure if thats what i'm supposed to look for or what. Im surprised there isn't more on this. I know i'm not the only one thats had this problem before. I'm sure it would be good to get this running again.

You probably just need to replace the laser. The FZ-1 uses the exact same drive assembly as certain PC CD-ROM drives from the period, so you can just find one of those and swap out the laser. I had to do exactly that with my 3DO.
Any particular brand of pc? Anything from around 1993? probably old 486 computers huh?

You try diddling any of the pots nearby while a game tried to boot? I'm sure there's vids on YouBoob outlining just what to do… here's one:
i already watched that video earlier......what i could of it. My current internet doesnt stream video very well. It looks like this guy ordered a laser for an FZ-10 and it was modified to work. Not sure what was done or how to do it.
-
A little hestiant about messing with anything seeing as it could actually make it worse and i dont have a meter for testing.
-
Did some cleaning and still nothing. Disc spins, laser moves, and after a few seconds, ejects tray. Running it without a disc, you can see the movement and a faint red beam but thats it. Not sure if i should look for a replacement laser or if there is some other problem here.

The controller is probably somewhere else in the store. haha If it's a place like BadWill or Salavating Amy, could be wedged anywhere.

I'll just have to roder one when i order my other controllers i need.

Yeah i know hoe they do things. Looked everywhere but nothing. They have a bad habit of getting tv sets in with remotes, pricing the tv with no remote and throwing the remotes in the bin for 50 cents each.

Made a random stop by a local thrift on the way home seeing as i haven't been in there for a couple weeks. Immediately found a Panasonic 3DO FZ-1 for $30. Theyre usually cheaper on this stuff but even at $30, i couldn't pass it up since i didnt even have one. I'll get a picture of it up later on.

Hmmm so if I drop a VGA graded case in the water, it can ruin what's inside by a lot? Be funny if someone tries to list a VGA graded game that was fished out of Mississippi river after all those flooding that still bears 95 rating but looks like (and smells like) a block of turd.
Maybe I should try to snag the cheapest VGA graded game that is 90+, drop it in my backyard pond, get it back in a few months, and sell it as rare VGA 90+ graded glob of mud and dead shrimps.

I actually like Hotel Mario. I think it's one of the better made games on the CD-I, FMV sequences aside. It plays well, looks good, sounds fine, and has personality. It runs smooth and actually feels like a genuine video game created by a group of individuals that actually knew what they were doing (something more than can be said for most of the library on the system).
Whats Hotel Mario about? I've heard of the game over the years but never seen one or had the chance to try it.

I like my CD-i quite a bit. It has some very apparent limitations, but it's an interesting part of video game history. As a beat-'em-up lover, I dig Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam, even though it lacks two-player support, the music cuts out during sound effects, and the controls aren't really precise. It just has a lot of interesting character designs, plus it has the notorious, hilariously bad animated cut scenes.
Defintely a part of game history. My main reason for hanging onto it. I'll eventually own most of the systems ever released. It'll be interesting to see this thing in action.

I'll keep an eye out for those.

Found a Sega Saturn steering wheel in a trash can!

In the past, ive found everything from tvs, to dvd players, and the occasional game system. Found a couple 2600's in the trash. Once found a Colecovision. A PS2, an Intellivision. I dont find as much where i live versus where i lived before but i still find alot of tv sets since i collect older crt sets. I recently picked up a 56" HDTV projection set capapble of 1080i. Just yesterday, i picked up an RCA 46" projection set manufactured in 82. Had a sign on it that said "good tv works free".
