I have a question @AndrewHyperkin,
Will you be offering firmware/software updates for bug fixes etc via the SD card slot?
The biggest need I see out of the gate is getting SEGA pads working and Pitfall II.
-
What about 7800 games via the micro sd card slot? Doesnt 7800 work under Stella? Just curious; sorry if it is a dumb question.
-
I would volunteer to covert sprites. This and Popeye are two of my favorites from that era.
I mean, its pretty much Galaga. I would think the 7800 could handle it just fine. Pokey or Yamaha would be a must.

Indy 500 uses a driving controller not a paddle controller. Would be cool if they find a way to make it double as both but I highly doubt it.
The driving controllers are paddles with a stopper. A switch would likely be all it takes with some internal programming. Fingers crossed; I love Indy 500! Even if the R77 had some code that told it to run Indy 500 with a paddle; that would work too.
-
Stoked to hear about the paddle! 2 questions:
1. Will the paddle work on Indy 500? That game had its own driving controller but was still basically a paddle.
2. If this does well can we hope for an upgraded version in in the future that will have 7800 compatibility? Even a cart adapter to plug 7800 games in to the existing R77 would be a happy upsale for me.
Thanks for answering our questions and checking in!

@Metal Jesus: Hey man, love your vids! Can you test a Melody cart like Berzerk VE (the version from the AA store that has voice)? Also can you confirm that 7800 carts wont fit the cart slot?
Thanks for what you do!
Does anyone know of any wireless solutions like the 8bitdo Bluetooth for nes and snes controllers that are compatible with SEGA/Atari ports?
-
Andrew, you said peripherals. Would new driving/paddles be a possibility? Most of the originals need at least a reconditioning at this point and the paddle games represent a good enough portion of the library that many of us would jump on a new paddle controller with maybe a switch for the Indy 500 support.
It would be nice to play those games without jittery inputs.

It will when it does. You only know what you know. I know what I know. I didnt take any preorders, so I suppose my coder and I will keep our own schedule.
Thanks to those who took time to share kind words. It is always moving forward. My partner thankfully is way better at programming than I am spritework, so well get there.

Bob, any chance of bumping the table? Bumping is a big part of pinball strategy with the risk element of tilting the machine. Even if the table graphics dont move, being able to nudge the ball left or right would be a big gameplay plus.
It looks amazing! Im down for one for sure! This game was a fond memory for me; Ive always wanted to get one for my house. Thanks for doing what you do!

Map is complete. Cant show more without spoiling points of interest. Been touching base with my programmer; I actually gave Pyxel Edit a stroke (crashed) by throwing too much in the file! Thank goodness for saving early and often!
Separating tiles into solid/background layers now for the tile ripper. #notalwaysglamorous

I have always loved this game! Thank you Bob! I love pinball!!! I may never get to play a real BPM again, but this will definitely fill a void in my gamer heart!

Shouldn't commando grass look more brown?
Any chance to get a mod that fixes the weird NTSC of the 7800?
By that I mean automatic "tint" adjustment:
I think the Commando coloring is very much affected by the 7800 warmup effect. It does change as the system warms up vs a cold start. Commando on any 7800 modded or not is typically a dark game which looks different on almost every tv Ive ever played it on.
I have 3 7800s and the UAV modded one from Crossbow is by far my best output.

Just to give options; two Genesis arcade sticks work great for this on a table top. That or two SEGA pads if playing without a surface like that. I got my best scores with dual Genesis 6 button pads.

My 2 gamer loves: Pin and Pac. Take my money. Bob, you are a wild man. Im down for a copy for sure. The 320 PACs as well if those get carted.

So Crossbow modded my 7800 and just wanted to thank him and recommend him to anyone needing a mod.
He recapped it, installed UAV (restored it after taking out the Longhorn mod), added pink LED, replaced my worn out power buttons, modded it to accept a SEGA Genesis power supply (runs cooler than the other side of the pillow), and even still works with original power supplies and the original rf out!
Just wanted to give him a shout out because there arent many modders out there and especially not that do work this good!

My dream once upon a time was to mod a Virtual Boy controller as a two wire/one controller for Robotron and Indiana Jones. That way it would be a twin stick one controller solution solution for games that require players to use both controllers. It would have to be plugged into both controller ports, but hey, problem solved.

Sometimes you can get the picture a little cleaner by passing through a vcr or dvd recorder first. DVD recorders usually up the res to 480 so the tv doesnt have to think about it and solves some image issues.
I also recommend getting a Genesis game pad adapter so you can play 2 button games with a better controller than the pro line.

So best option is to remove the longhorn for the uav? Who is my best choice to get the operation done?
-
Thanks! I was worried my system was about to die. Anyone around these days that does an alternate mod?
-
I have three 7800s. One that is unmodded, one that has an av mod running into an internal hdmi adapter, and one that has the longhorn av mod. The longhorn av modded system has very obvious rolling bars going up the screen from bottom left to the top right. Any ideas what causes this? Is it an easy fix?
Any recommendations for a mod or repair service? Id like to get this one fixed to use as my workhorse for the XM and other projects.

Not for nothing, but you can use an off brand sensor bar that is battery or usb powered and 8 bitdo already supports Wii motes. I have three crts, but they wont last forever nor do I want to drag them out for game night at a friends house.

Maybe release a second upmarket version with additional built-in gen-2 analog output thus enabling working with a 32x and the additional sideport or additional FPGA headroom to allow for potential expansion in future. I know its a pipe dream but how nuce it would be to have what amounts to a sega Neptune
A Neptune type all in one would be the way to go. I love the Frankenstein monster that is my SEGA 32X CD, but to drop for a new hdmi SEGA console, it would have to be an all in one solution.
While we are pie in the sky, I would love to see a workaround for light gun games. Some kind of onscreen reticule for WiiMotes or even a gun that supports variable refresh or a locked refresh that the NT and Super NT or even the AVS could support.
Love the fact that this hardware exists! Thank you Kevtris and I cant wait to see what is next!
Btw. Somehow my phone spell corrected hardware to fat dwarf! Wtf!

Kevtris,
Im a SEGA junkie, and will be there on day one for a Genesis FPGA, but for me, I need some kind of CD/32X solution. I dont mind a core system that can simply use real existing CD and 32X add ons since I have two or three of each, but it would need to still be able to at least run the 32X video through hdmi somehow.
Kevtris, could a real 32X or SCD piggyback a FPGA, or is that too much of a nightmare?
I know youre in neck deep with the snes firmware, but I thought Id ask. I know some are dismissive of the add ons, but they dont and shouldnt speak for everybody. There are more than five good games.
I do have one question about the nes and snes FPGAs. Is there some kind of workaround for the gun games? Could they be patched to work with wiimotes through the retro receivers? Mouse support with a crosshair? Even a new hdtv compatible light gun? Just wanted to know your thoughts.

I wonder if it would work with one of the SEGA to 7800 adapters for two button functionality. Those in effect turn it into a 7800 pad. Fingers crossed. I have one and will be testing it on day one.
