  2. Hi everyone! So I've been really enjoying mine - 1009 games installed from actual carts! My go to controller has been my C+L Championship Stick for SNES or my official Saturn USB pads. I tried my X-Arcade DIY sticks with minimal luck. Player 1 UDLR worked but no buttons. It could be because I didn't use them all in my build; I opted to go 6 buttons per player. The guts are X-Arcade, but the buttons and sticks are better quality parts from an arcade vendor. Anyone try a different setup or have the PS3 adapter since PS3 is compatible? I'm guessing though the system is seeing it as a keyboard since they are not HID devices. Next question: Are there any english cheat codes to be found? So far my incompatible carts are only my 8-bit X-Mas carts, Repro NWC, and Repro Campus Challenge. Anyone know if anything from Retro USB will work? Still waiting for 32X support. It would be cool to see swap out cart readers for N64, Atari, etc.
  3. Great doc. I'll have to show my journalism students this.
  4. Awesome vid and very cool to see the process! Congrats on ressurecting the Fairchild!
  5. I've been dragging my new Retro Freak to work with me. I'm a high school journalism teacher and the math teacher up the hall and a room full of kids have been playing Mega Bomberman, NBA Jam, Off Road, and Contra at lunch. It really is great to see the kids having fun. I use the Retro Freak because it's safer than risking my original hardware and I can carry it in my pocket. All it takes is a usb hub and we play with my Saturn usb pads and a couple of SNES pads. Took forever to install my cart collection on that thing though!
  6. Got mine today. It is spectacular! Thank you so much! I have never enjoyed playing Commando so much on my 7800! This is my new "go to" setup!
  7. I used Happ buttons and microswitches with a DIY X-Arcade pcb in a custom 2 player stick I assembled in college back when I had access to my college workshop. I don't like X-Arcade's buttons and switches, but I do like the pcb/brains so I just used that with some quality parts. I haven't experimented with a custom trackball yet. I'll post pics later. My twin 1 year old daughters love to hammer on it.
  8. Do the games that require 3 button pads or the MODE button be used at startup like Ms Pac Man or Forgotten Worlds for Genesis work? Those are a couple of my favorites and I was wondering if anyone here had tried them out.
  9. Have you tried a new adapter? Are you sure your connection method works? Have you tried it with a different Atari or another system from that era? Not to be insulting, but I'm always surprised to see folks trying to connect to an incompatible flatpanel without the proper gear to adapt the signal. Good luck.... it can be saved!
  10. I think it is demand over rarity. Mega Man 2 is a must for many collectors; like Contra, it is the first cart someone goes after when getting a Nes collection started. If you're going to have 2, you might as well have MM1 as well. Also many gamers have fond rental memories of it; as a kid all my friends loved that game. None of us owned it; we just rented it.
  11. Basing this only on systems I have played, I have to go with the NGage. The original taco phone model. So clunky and slow and generally unpleasant to hold. I have Tomb Raider for it just because I'm to lazy to toss it out. I don't get the NES hate. Based on the time period, the controllers are better and more reliable than the competition from that time. I love my SMS and my 7800, but the SMS pad had issues and the ProLine was awful. The 7800 is absolutely the least reliable of the three and randomly hated games. One of mine hates Berserk and the other hates Choplifter... no reason I can tell. The SMS looks great, but don't breathe on it or that casing will chip or crack! The nes is a grey brick and we all had to blow the carts, but in no way was any of the three main systems far better or worse than the others in any way but their library. In that regard, Nintendo won. I had all three in my house and when Zelda and Metroid came out there was no comparing. Some people say, "well Sega had Sonic and..." I love my SMS, but many games people fawn over were dumbed down Genesis ports... after the Genesis was already out! If the Nes was the worst thing you ever played, you are lucky and have lived a charmed gamer life! Game.com... almost forgot... played it. It was worse than the NGage! Far worse than the NES as well.
  12. Thank you for ordering on Capcom U.S.A., Inc.. The release date for the preorder product has been confirmed. The product listed below is scheduled to be available on January 20, 2016. Got this today.
  13. Gamestop has it listed as well as Capcom's site. I ordered it at Capcom for my son's Christmas.... ugh. Gamestop says it ships on the 30th of this month?
  14. I know somewhere many pages ago I wanted in, but just in case... add me to the take my money list!
  15. I put the switch on the back. I used three pieces of double sided padded adhesive to pad and hold the button in place. Great work on the pcbs! So glad to have this in my collection! If only I wasn't completely terrible at Double Dragon! Seriously, what is the trick to that game? Ipads... of course the thumbnail is upside down.
  16. Did I need to specify US version? I sent payment yesterday or the day before.
  17. It is probably best to just get another at a second hand shop. I got two for 6.00 each. Even if yours is better, you can still swap the stick out to the better base.
  18. To use HDMI and wireless controllers in my living room. Yep. I keep my original hardware in my man cave hooked to a crt, but the living room is modern so yeah, it'd be nice.
  19. ALL of the Capcom fighters and 2D titles. X-Men Vs. StreetFighter - the PSX version removed the ability to tag in partner characters and loaded very slowly. SF Alpha Marvel Super Heroes Mega Man X 4 D and D Arcade collection Darkstalkers 3D was Playstations strength, Saturn rocked it on the 2D stuff.
  20. mbd30, Sandman in Punch Out is typically where it all falls apart for me as well. goldenegg, Sony is rated best for low latency AND you have good upscalers. Sony is out of the tv business now btw. I didn't intend for this to be a discussion on how to defeat lag with good gear. XRGB boxes don't come standard and most of us don't have that kind of coin. It is sad that classics like Punch Out are being ruined for future generations by "improving" technology. Of course most of us suck at Battletoads on a crt anyway. That game is the devil. Retro gaming is becoming like record collecting; anyone can get in, but to properly enjoy it requires obscure expensive equipment. One of my favs that is on almost every console that I can't stand to play on lcd is Robotron 2084. I get a good 30% drop in score on my lcd tv The ps3 and 360 versions hurt more because I have to use analogue sticks which seem to bother my reaction time, though it could be wireless controller delay. My favorite way to play is either ps3 on a crt w/arcade sticks or a 7800 on crt with 2 Genesis pads.
  21. Ok, we all deal with lag on modern tvs; some of us keep crts to avoid the problem, but all of us for whatever reason have dealt with lag rearing its ugly head in our games. So what games do lag just ruin for you? Of course for me Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! is at the top of the list, but the original Super Mario Bros is right behind it. Punch Out - NES - Darn near unplayable on Wii U virtual console. Super Mario Bros. - NES - jumps are just off enough to be a problem. Lode Runner - NES - timing is everything here as well Space Harrier - 32X - I average about four worlds worse than on a crt here. AfterBurner II - 32X - Same as Harrier and the canyon runs just tick me off. Kool Aid Man - 2600 - Don't laugh. The lag kills my score on this one. Overall I'd say playing on a modern tv is like playing with a cheap controller; you can do it, but it is really gonna hurt on some games. Which games just make you want to punch your lcd/led/whatever?
  22. I'll give you two top tens! My overall: Arkanoid - if you get the paddle controller! Batman Contra Double Dribble Duck Tales Zelda Mega Man II or III Metroid Ms Pac Man Super Mario 3 Now these are 10 games UNDER 10 dollars that are a blast that you should always get for your collection: They may not be the best, but they are essential and CHEAP! Bump n Jump Burgertime Donkey Kong 3 OR Galaga - very similar games! Excitebike Kung Fu Klax Popeye Qbert Spy Hunter Toobin
