You know, I was just wondering about what RPGs/RPG-like games there are for the Atari 8-bit. And now I have a new one to look forward to! I love Rogue-likes, and I'm really excited for this!
-
That's a nice little demo! Have you had any specific ideas for games using this technique?
-
Those are some good thoughts and ideas on a custom controller. I really like that design for the hybrid paddle/joystick/driving controller! Way more ambitious than the joystick I made for myself.

I'd love to hear that familiar and classic piano soundtrack of Vince Guaraldi's musical arrangement, but sadly I believe it is too complex for the Atari 2600.
Haha yeah, I don't think the Atari would be a good tool to replicate an epically talented smooth jazz trio

I'm not sure if diagonal movement would work here.. I think I need to clean up some of the code, because I'm sure there's probably lines of code in the physics loop that aren't needed. I originally wanted to make a full game out of this, but like I said, I'm not sure if what I was intending to do is actually possible on the 2600...
I wouldn't say that! I'm sure with some clever code cleanup you could totally turn it into something resembling your intended game.
-
Nifty! I actually had a similar idea, except the goal was to smash a large truck into smaller cars a la destruction derby. This could turn into a really cool game!
A couple thoughts:
- Is diagonal movement a possibility?
- Full speed seems to be awful fast. I assume though that it wouldn't be difficult to tune it to a particular game's needs.
All in all though, pretty cool demo!

Of those four, I'd say Elevator Action, but my personal favorite is definitely Zoo Keeper. Someday that game will have a classic console release...

It is a pretty interesting list, even if I don't necessarily agree with it. After all, it is just a few people's opinions. But I will say, that top 10 is pretty close to what my top 10 would be.

Enjoying Funspot. Lots of new games, some I am playing for the first time (the actual arcade).
Also have a few news about the project, but I guess I will leave that for later.
Yeah man, the news will come when the news will come. For now, video games! YEAH!

It's f-ing checkers. That one is tied with the Haunted House alt. title in my book.

Hahaha, sweet. Literally!

Yes, I think your #1 point is really most critical... the brain is quite willing to fill in the rest of the details when you make the right color hints.
Here's the extreme example - Can you guess what show these single pixel-wide characters are from?
(For more, check out Something Awful's Abstract Pixel Art article.)
Futurama! Do I win a prize?

Ha, yeah - I used to love Shane Monroe's rants, whether I agreed with them or not. I don't know why, but for some reason it's fun to listen to people complain.

You can get a light gun to work with flat panel tvs and projector tvs, but doing so requires A LOT of tv tech know-how.
-
And also, if you don't mind, the projected price?

Price isn't a problem. I have learned that ColecoVision people are a very wealthy bunch, they spend hundreds of dollars every year with ColecoVision games, mods and accessories. So I was thinking of $200 for such a advanced piece of hardware. But that would be for the module only, if you want the documentation that is going to cost you another $50. Add another $50 to have it shipped inside a box, otherwise a padded envelope will be used.
Ok, j/k. Projected price is $50 for the SGM, $40 for Donkey Kong, when it is available.
Eduardo, you damn near gave me a heart attack!

-
Shoot, $2? That's a damn fine find.

And also, if you don't mind, the projected price?

That would be excellent, as I am technologically backwards. I don't even have a facebook.I so would attend that. If needed I would host the website for the event for free.
Hot diggity! Well, let's get this ball a-rollin'!

100 extra bytes, eh? Congrats on being able to squeeze such a quality game into less than 4k!
-
The only site I'm aware of is Psytronik software. Is there anywhere else to pick up the myriad of homebrews released yearly for the C64 in physical form? Thanks!

Cool cool. Hey, have any of you Western New Yorkers ever thought about starting up some kind of retro video game gathering? I've always toyed with the idea...

A short list in the monroe county area-
Game craze, one in all three of the malls, and about 4 or 5 around the county
Game Players unlimited in brockport/batavia
Heckle and Jeckle Collectables in Chili, lots of crazy stuff, but his prices are laughable on most things. every once in a while something slips through, but the guy who owns it is kind of a tool

And Game On in greece.
So, yeah, I guess your missing out
.Game On, huh? How does it compare to Game Craze?

Got the first rough quote this morning, not too bad. So I believe the SGM is a go...

Hot diggity daffodil! Can't wait!

After 7 years, I am just tired of this project, I want to move to new things (other games, the CV2, who knows). All my fault though, had I not kept changing the specs every month the SGM would have been released years ago. Oh, well...
Although I haven't accomplished anything that cool within the realm of my hobbies, I know how you feel. I like to do woodworking, and when I'm halfway done with a project, I get sick of it and move onto something else and don't end up coming back to it for months. Jeez, that little joystick I built took me a year to accomplish, even though I maybe worked about fifteen hours total on it, if that.
