That does look awesome! I've always thought about building my own console casing for a famiclone; with just the bare electronics to worry about holding, you can turn the casing into a real work of art!

Yeah, floppy disks! I love those things! Unreliable, yes, but they have such a charm about them.

The 2600 is pretty light on the light-gun games, so I say go for it!

Well, Sanwa is kind of an expensive brand, I think all told it cost me about $50. You could probably do it for less with cheaper joysticks and by asking your neighbors for scrap wood.

I actually went ahead and built one myself with sanwa arcade parts. It's big and bulky and it's far more comfortable than any other joystick I've tried.

I got mine the summer of 2001, after my 8th grade year. I had wanted one for a while since I found out about, having been interested in video game history for some time before that. I had asked for it for Christmas for several years, but my parents said they couldn't find one (this was before internet shopping really hit the mainstream). I finally decided to just save up my own money from mowing lawns and whatnot, and bought a refurbished four-switch, which I still use to this day. I think I still remember the first six games I had for it... Berzerk, Donkey Kong Jr, Asteroids, Joust.... ehh, not quite

I'll give you that they do name drop a bit, I really don't agree that it's as bad as you suggest. Not to be outright defensive, but they do have some published works on the subject, something that I certainly can't claim for myself. The good news with Retronauts is that it is very easy to skip over the subjects you don't care about and only listen to the specific ones you take interest in. But hey, in the end, you like what you like, and our discussions here will hopefully inform someone who is looking to find a good retro game podcast find the one they like best.

Man, you guys are digging on Retronauts pretty hard. I still like it quite a bit, and though they do talk about FF on occasion, it does only feel like an occasional thing to me. Have you guys listened to the Famicom Dojo podcast? Not really a lot of pre-NES/Famicom stuff, but they do know what they're talking about, and they're a lot of fun to listen to. And they stick to the topic instead of going off on youtube nonsense or whatever it is that destroyed the potential of All-Gen Gamers.

It's a pretty great game! I come back to it all the time. There is great satisfaction to be found when you finally finish the game and get the good ending.

Curt you're... just the best. Also, since I, like many people here on this board, have never actually seen a 3200, what is it's size like? I'd prefer it not be too girthy - something I like about the junior model. But hey, I'll probably buy it either way

My college roommate holds the same opinion. I can't say I understand though, since there are several teams missing from the original Tecmo Bowl (where are my Buffalo Bills!?) and there are less play options. Why does the original appeal to you more?

Tecmo Super Bowl hails over all. Never been topped, in my opinion.

Are you going to change the scoring? As in a multiplier for however many lines are cleared at one time? Becuase if you just get one point per line cleared, there's not much reason to go for multiple line plays. But I gotta tell ya, this is turning out wonderful!

What I would prefer is to just pick out your favorite cabinet, find out what the dimensions and specific measurements are (many are listed throughout the web), grab some plywood or other preferred wood source and go for it! Then again, I love to do woodworking, so if that isn't your bag, then the gutted cabinet is the way to go.

There's actually a really nice chain of used video game stores in the Rochester area called Game Craze. I'm particularly familiar with the Victor locaiton, and have gotten to know the folks there quite well. Rarely does an Atari cartridge go for more than 4.99, and for the most part, they're all only 99 cents. Some of the NES titles are little overpriced, but I can't really blame them, since people are actually willing to pay those prices. Even still, the most an NES game will go for is 19.99. Heck, I picked up Adventure Island for 4.99.

Batari Basic is a lot of fun. I have yet to come up with anything remotely of note myself, but there is good chunk you can do with it. I believe there's a major update in the works that will increase it's versatility.

My old roommate used to play the flash version of this game constantly my sophomore year of college. This port is sweet.

Actually in the manual it states the E.T.'s name was actually Earl Turner. Thus, the title of the game is really "Earl Turner: The Extra-Terrestrial." You know? This sounds like a bad 70's cop drama. One, it shouldn't go without saying, I would gladly watch.

Or, now here's an idea... We could learn. Pfft, learning's for looooosers
