Any kind of shoot 'em up! Like Aleste!

Now that is cool! What are some examples of other students projects? I always love seeing what kids create when they're given those kind of tools.
-
I still like it! And it's so simple, you could really go pretty much anywhere from where you already are.

Just got a few games from him in the mail. I sent in my paypal on Friday, and they showed up in my mailbox on Monday! That's speedy! A-ok in my book

Met up with him at a coffee shop in Rochester to make a quick transaction, and couldn't have been more pleasent. A+ checkmark gold star!

It's definitely worth seeking out! If I had an extra, I'd totally sell you one.

Just saw this again while doing some digging to check out some neat old demos. Is this still on your radar?

Interesting reviews. Have you tried the Wico Command Control? That one is my favorite vintage joystick (my favorite joystick is, of course, the one I custom made for myself
) -
Seawolf and Oystron are also two awesome homebrews.
Ooo, yeah, those ones too! The 2600 has a wealth of amazing homebrew games.

Freaking Juno First. That game is pure awesome.

An interesting tool to use is http://videogames.pricecharting.com/. It's not really something to use as the definitive price of a particular item, but it is good to use to see what certain items are going for. As for the best deals, I would say the Marketplace here is really amazing. Lots of great people just trying to spread retro gaming love (and earn some food money

Hows the weight on it? Is it able to sit on the table like an arcade stick or is it mainly for holding?
It holds its place pretty well on a table, but it's also really great sitting on your lap. I think I lucked into the perfect size! I thought about tacking felt onto the bottom of it to help with keeping it stable on a table. Looking neat on your seat.
Clean on your jeans?
Is it fair in a chair? I bet it's not like crap in your lap.
YES! I was hoping I could get a couple more out of someone.

@ save2600 - Haha, nope, no splinters... I sanded the crap out of that thing. I had to go to my folks house to build it since my workshop at my apartment consists of a hammer, needle nose pliers, and some screwdrivers. My dad kept coming into the garage periodically to make sure I was spending enough time sanding. Some things never change
@ keilbaca - I'll have to wait till I get home to check up on the dimensions, I don't remember them off hand. But I really did luck into those dimensions; I had no idea it'd turn out so perfect!

I was a lot of fun to build this thing... I'm thinking about making one for the NES next.
-
I actually was thinking about this the other day myself... I think the trick would be in recreating the tension from the iPhone game when a rock just barely kills off that last green pig. For that to happen, the pigs and structures would have to move precisely and subtly. What would be used for the structures? The background was what I was thinking... but I wonder if that would be too clunky? I'm sure if you spent enough time with it, you could find a good solution.

Sure thing! Do what you gotta do.
-
Sounds awesome opcode - just keep doing what you're doing and take all the time you need! I am so excited to see this come to fruition!
-
Nifty! I'm all for joystick creativity.

Just wondering if there were any of you AAers out there from around Western Ny; I myself am from around Rochester.
I currently live in Rochester (a little west of it, actually) but I'm originally from Southern California. I'm moving back to CA in late August/early September tho'.
Cool! I'm a big fan of Rochester, but I'm sure that it can't really compare to SoCal. While you're here, you really gotta check out the Game Craze chain of stores. I'm friends with a couple guys who work there in the Eastview mall location, as well as the Galleria mall location.

The buttons and joystick are sanwa brand arcade sticks. It cost a bit more than Happ controls, but it was totally worth it. As for the casing, most of it is just plywood, but the top is pine with a bit o' staining.

Cool. Are both fire buttons the same or is it a two button controller?
Both fire buttons are the same, to accommodate both a right-handed and a left-handed player. The stock Atari sticks always felt like they were completely right-handed in design, and I happen to be left handed. I also grew up more accustomed to having the directional control on the left and the fire buttons on the right as opposed to the stock stick which is reversed in that aspect.

The homebrew Dungeon is very rogue-like, IMHO.
