[INSERT CRYPTIC-SOUNDING NONSENSE HERE]

I've noticed it's usually about computers...I think anyway...I don't know, I prolly need Keatah to translate...Or maybe it's one of Bluejay's 15 Status Updates of the day...Or involves plugging something into something else, something new into something old more than likely, or it's for XBONXXONEXXX or some other obscure modern system...Or maybe it's got that McWill upgrade so you can plug it into your Wheaties box before the Mayan crop circles spell out the word Dimwit on your front lawn signalling the end of times...Or just some bonehead complaining about GameStop (again)...

hey, even if that is true, it's pretty wild seeing a flight simulator get this level of interest outside of the existing flight simulator niche.

Sublogic Flight Simulator II, 1984- one 90KB disk for base game. MS Flight Simulator 2020 - 154GB download for base game. *sigh*

I think the last version of MS Flight Simulator I bought before this was in the early-mid 00’s. 2002? 2006? I don’t remember. My kids were busy growing up and I didn’t spend nearly as much time with it as I wanted. But I’d been flying sims casually for decades up until then. And since then, I’ve flown lots of aircraft in Kerbal Space Program, plus combat flight and space simulation in many other games. Speaking of which, Star Wars: Squadrons will be a lot of fun this fall.

Bought a WDC “Mensch Microcomupter” SBC a couple weeks ago & having a blast writing ML right into the Monitor to blink LEDS ... It’s the simple things sometimes.
-
Banging machine language opcodes directly to registers on a little WDC Mensch SBC is remarkaby satisfying. Who needs code when you can write directly to the chip via a serial terminal?

Wife’s coworker seriously ill with COVID-19. Took a week after testing, but my wife’s ‘rona test came back negative. Whew.

Opened a CRT and discharged the tube for the first time today - I didn't die. #Winning

Yeah, I don't know. I started a thread in the ST forum about this a couple days ago asking if anyone had pics or a service manual but no dice. Another forum member said the same had happened to the knobs on the one he had gotten a few years ago. I wonder if there was dielectric grease inside the pots that dried out over time? And given the very, very small surface area to move them when they're installed, it might just be that there's not enough leverage to get any torque. The pots also all have a center-detent position, which is where all three appeared to have gotten stuck.

Ordered some EPROMS from China a month ago. Tracking shows arrival to my local PO on Saturday. Still not out for delivery. Grrr.....

Just discovered the STRANGER SYNTHS channel on Youtube - a mother load of darkwave to wile away the late-night hours ...
-
After fooling around with it a couple years ago, I finally broke down & sub'd to Roland Cloud - holy shit, the VSTs are INCREDIBLE. Synth-heaven ...

@GoldLeader The XP-50 is a synth in it's own right... it's pretty much a keyboard version of the JV-1080. My JV-2080 can do really good synths. Sure the oscillators are samples but it has a full synth engine... filers, envelopes, LFOs... etc... you can even create PWM sounds using two saw waves + one of the structures modes.

Somehow only just today realized that CYBERPUNK 2077 is delayed until September. Damn it - I was looking forward to something good next month. *sigh*

Hair clippers arrived today from Amazon. My wife gave me my first haircut since at least February sometime. Holy shit, I had a lot of hair.

I normally keep my hair pretty short and it was a bit overdue for a cut before we went into isolation. My best guess is it had been 13 - 14 weeks since my last cut. These clippers are pretty great, btw. My wife bought these based on reviews vs. price vs. availability and I gotta say, they had zero trouble with my mop:

My bro-in-law's tabletop group met via Zoom tonight to play a game of the DUNE strategy game. Holy hell, what a convoluted, bonkers game! Messy but still really fun. We have too many people in the group for everyone to play, so a couple of us got to drink and kibbitz the players. Great way to have fun under less than ideal circumstances.

The UAV is a video mod board that replaces the stock video output circuitry and creates an excellent composite video signal, as well as separate chroma/luma signals if you want to use S-video. It was created several years ago by @Bryan but is now produced and sold under license by @MacRorie. I have them in a 2600, a 7800, and a bunch of A8 computers already.

Four more 5200 analog thumbstick controllers built this weekend. That's 19 in the last 8 days. Gotta catch up with that backlog!
-
https://www.maker-matrix.com My pal and I did a thing. We hope 5200 fans love it as much as we do.

When the same person posts 7 times in the same thread - several times in a row without any other posts in multiple cases - it’s time for me to step away from the forum before I say something that gets me in trouble.

Building 5200 controllers this weekend. Lots of very fine, meticulous work! My eyeballs hurt ...
