Looks nice. Why no Sunsoft (back then Sun Electronics Corporation) copyright (Atari only distributed the game)? It looks like they had "licensed from Sun Electronics Corporation" on the flyers, but no in game copyright for Sunsoft, only "Atari Inc". Sunsoft definitely retains the rights, though. They recently licensed it to Hamster for the Arcade Archives on PS4 and Switch.

I was just copying the arcade screens.  If Sunsoft are the current license holder, I will need to change it.

  2. And while I am sort of stuck in a recliner, I did some more i.e. other two screens from the arcade.  None of these layouts/designs are final, but think it's not looking too bad so far.

I have added some sprites (as the monkey faces on screen four needed them), they are just hacked in and stationary so there is a bit of flicker evident at the moment.

I need to work on all the character animations, especially momma kangaroo.

Heaps of space left, 11k no compression used as yet.

  3. Been a bit unwell for a while (again), but felt I could use the computer tonight and quickly made a rom shell, with the graphics I showed above.

No sprites in this one yet, but good to see the screens running.  I need to do the other level.

Sample Rom attached for any who are interested. 9k so far, but haven't turned any compression on.

After picking up the most recent Windows 10 update and the corresponding .Net updates, unfortunately the sprite editor stopped working on my PC.  The app launches and I can see the icon in the taskbar with the focus highlight indicating it's active but there is no app window.  I deinstalled and reinstalled the app with no change to the behavior, ran it as administrator, no dice.  Is there any log I can look at or any other method of debugging I can employ?  The Windows update affected a lot of things it shouldn't have (isn't that always the case) and I fear that, in my case, the sprite editor has been affected by some security fix or other patch.

And also tonight there is a rather quickly pushed out 'Quality Update' for Windows 10 Version 20H2 :)

The application uses screen size information stored in the .config file.  Even if you uninstall this might be left behind.  Try uninstalling and checking that the directory is completely gone and then re-install.  I'll do some checks on the latest build of Windows 10, as  I just installed it yesterday as well.

My bad.. I didn't realize the NES version of Sydney Hunter - Caverns of Death is still a WIP.. Just saw Tony's latest video. 🤦🏻‍♂️

    There goes that idea. 😶

Yep sorry, been a fair slog getting past a few technical limitations, but it's definitely getting close now :)

I called amazon support today and the confirmed that the Kindle edition of the book is not compatible with Kindle devices (which seems counterintuitive to me). I missed it when I first purchased the book but there is a "available on these devices" link that you have to click on to see which devices are supported (figured I didn't need to since I was using a Kindle device). Only Kind fire devices or Kindle apps are supported.

I know that there are screenshots and images but I have comics and other books with pictures that work on the Kindle devices so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work.

It is what is called a "Print Replica", due to the listings mainly.  Selecting that must limit it to certain types of Kindles (who knew there were so many models!!).  You could still read the book using the Kindle App if that helps.

I think you fell into the same trap I did in the beginning.

Use his other thread then follow the link on the first page

    or this directly.

    https://www.electricadventures.net/Pages/Category/24

Best to go to his other Atari Age thread in case his direct link changes.

On his offsite page click on the "Download latest version"

It can be confusing because although the others are depreciated Tony has not found time to remove the buttons.

Remember to show Tony some love because it is an awesome program completely free of charge and he is still improving it.

I can't seem to get the application to run I am getting the following error:

Below is a summary of the errors, details of these errors are listed later in the log.
        * Activation of C:\Users\kynrek\Downloads\MSXSpriteEditor.application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected:
+ Application manifest has either a different computed hash than the one specified or no hash specified at all.
+ File, MSXSpriteEditor.exe.manifest, has a different computed hash than specified in manifest.

Yep that is correct, I need to clean-up the links in the older articles on my website, but my admin sections is currently not working.  Haven't had time to fix it with all the other stuff I have going on.  Make sure the old version is uninstalled as well, otherwise it can cause the new version not to install a short cut icon on the desktop and you will still be trying to run the old version.

And I am in Australia so my time zone means I am asleep when most of you guys are awake.

I purchased the kindle version and when I tried to read it it says that it is unavailable fir download and not compatible with my device (a kindle oasis I just got a few months ago). I can read other kindle books just fine. Am I missing something?

Have you updated the Kindle, it might need a newer firmware.  Otherwise contact Amazon support, there is nothing that I read in the specs of the Kindle Oasis that would stop it from working.

The only one I know there are issues are the Kindle App on a phone size device.

    How is this project progressing?

About 95% done, all game play elements are done, title screen, high score entry.  Just have a few bugs/inconsistencies to sort out over the next few weeks and it can go to full pre-release testing.

I know this is premature....That's what she said....

But is there any plans to set the screen mode to 40 column mode.

It would be interesting to see how far one could go with the other modes.

I honestly understand that this would be going way off the reservation but I thought I would at least bring up the subject.

If you did that then there would be the multicolor mode ect....

Yeah probably don't have any plans for mode 0, as it only supports 6x8 tiles, no sprites and single colour for the whole screen.  Probably won't do multi-colour as it doesn't have tiles.  But a screen drawing tool for multi-colour could be something for the future.

Nice. I like that i can import my older coleco graphic data files and export tiles uncompressed if I wish.

I got the clipboard import to work but

I couldn't get the image import to open a windows file browser nothing happens when I click the 'import file' the new window pops up to select file. WHne I click select file nothing happens. If I paste the absolute address of the file it gives me a fail warning.

Should it be a png, 256x192 16 colour file?

    image.thumb.png.5705cf310fa8f07f54992401bf856db3.png

when i hit select file nothing happens or pops up.

Yeah my bad, I don't usually leave a button in that doesn't work, but I forgot that I hadn't put any code behind that button yet.  Won't take long, should be in the next update :)

For best results, it should be 256x192 (or smaller) and already reduced to 16 colours.  Even better if you have already mapped the colours to the TMS palette.  But it will try and do a closest match process.

So you can move screen layouts up and down.

I will check this out but how about being able to create screens larger than 756 tiles.

That way you can display your Kangaroo map all at one time.

I am thinking how Haunted House moves or maybe that Amiga Pinball game.  Pinball Fantasies?

More so you can adjust the screen as you design it i.e. you start designing and run out of room, and want to (in my case) move the screen down (loosing the bottom row), so you can fit more at the top.

I will add the ability to select an area and move it around in the future, just need to work out how to do that in a way that will be easy to use.

  14. Working on the graphics for a future Electric Adventures release for the MSX, Spectravideo and ColecoVision, a port of Kangaroo in the arcades.

Quite a decent multi-screen platform game, that I always enjoyed back in the day.
Different aspect ratio, so the layout can't be perfect, but I think this captures the feel of the game so far.

Image may contain: text that says "MSX/Coleco Sprite File Character Set Editor Edit Help Sprites Character Sets Screen Layouts Screen Layout Name: Level01 Sample Level01 UOODU Tileset Block tileset_1 Tileset Block tileset_ Tileset Block Del Prev Character Set lame tileset_ 030 Next 032 033 035 037 038 040 039 041 042 045 043 046 044 047 048 049 051 052 053 054 2014-20 Electric Adventures https://wweletridventures.net Display grid lines ove tiles Current Tile: 045 Version: Import From Clipboard Full Screen Editor"

More detail to be added to the greenery sections and of course sprites for our main player character, little Joey and Naughty Monkeys to follow.

    Original arcade screen for reference:

    No photo description available.

    More updates to follow...

  15. A nice surprise was sitting on my doorstop today, the 1st box of copies of my 2nd book  ‘Programming Games for the Colecovision and Adam’.

So nice to finally see physical copies in all their A4, spiral bound glory!

The print quality is excellent, #cotegamers did a really good job and the spiral binding makes it really easy to view and use the many listings inside.
Copies are still available from Cote Gamers or on Kindle from Amazon.

I will also be selling signed copies on my website soon.

  16. Thanks a lot Tony!!

I just sent you a little something via Paypal  ...  Happy Christmas!

Let me know , if you received it!

Thank you so much, very generous and appreciated. But also thank you for your feedback and assistance with testing.

I am still working out sound output so the new sound effects and music sections will take a bit longer.

i found a little bug in the way you save sprite pattern to C.

The Comma is missing at the end of the line.

and curiously i have a syntax error also when i compile on the "8"....   i guess it is due to leading 0.

If i change the generated code by that one it works

    const byte SPRITE_1[] = {
     0,0,50,13,63,28,58,56,
     56,024,121,214,170,215,234,85,
     0,0,192,160,0,128,0,0,
     8,48,152,248,8,140,204,122};

if you correct that, may ask to generate Hexadecimal instead of decimal?

    To have something like :

    const byte SPRITE_1[] = {
     0x00,0x00,0x32,0x0D,...
    };

If you do the same thing for Char Pattern , please check :)  I did not try yet.

    Thanks!

    c_error.PNG

    Version 1.0.7666.38689 Released:

    - C line endings in export fixed,

    - leading zeroes remove from Decimal output mode.

Note: You can output Hexadecimal instead of Decimal by changing the options.
