  1. Many years ago I had a heap of books, much like the ones shown here: http://www.btinterne...ll/music/books/ I've been searching my many boxes of junk, and just can't find them. Anyone know of a site that does scans of these types of books? I'd slowly getting into simple BASIC programming for the C64, spent some time today programming a simple calculator and want to learn more! EDIT: Also, anyone know of a code to find out how many bytes I have used/have left available in my coding?
  2. SNES and Mega Drive era. Absolutely loved a lot of the gameplay and graphical style. Worst: the era just after that.
  3. I'm wanting to track down a keyboard for my XEGS, and was wondering if the keyboards from the 65XE and 130XE are the same/compatible.
  4. The only one I really had in mind was the C64, purely for nostalgic reasons. But I'm open to suggestions on other platforms if enough people wanted that over the C64. EDIT: I've also had the Atari XE in the back of my mind.
  5. A while ago I started writing out a text adventure (interactive fiction) reminiscent of the old Zork, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and such. I've done this entirely on paper. Lots and lots of sheets of paper. It's quite the epic. Anyway, it's almost time for me to program it onto a platform. I don't have too much programming experience, just a little bit of C about 8 years ago. Anyway, I'm trying to decide on what classic home computer I'd like to release it for. I'd like it to be something popular, that can handle large text games. I am very partial to the Commodore 64, as I had one growing up. Any suggestions on the coding, and what system you would like to see a homebrew text adventure with a good physical release? I should note that this is a project that I am really going to take my time with, and you shouldn't be expecting anything within the next couple of months.
  6. While I haven't seen this exact one, I have seen similar aftermarket faceplates many years back. Interesting.
  7. Another great memory is actually drawing the maps for Phantasy Star. On most RPG's, map drawing isn't needed. But in Phantasy star it's a necessity! Something about having to draw the maps on paper just made it seem like an adventure.
  8. I don't know of any, but I assume that if there was they would be getting it from Red Spot Games anyway. So either way, you would be paying for something from Red Spot Games.
  9. There's something about Text Adventure games that have always captured my imagination. I recently went through all my old C64 disks trying to find the name of one I used to play a lot, but couldn't find it. I have a large amount of pirated C64 disks and a lot of them have multiple games on them, without labelling the lot. I wrote one last year on a program designed to make modern text adventures on my mac. I can't remember what the program was called, but it was very easy to use since no programming skill was required. I'd love to learn a little bit of coding so that I could do a homebrew text adventure for the C64.
  10. I recently did a complete play through of Wonder in Monster Land in one sitting, all off the one life. Straight after I put in one of my copies of Dragon's Trap. Died several times within the first hour. I found it pleasantly more challenging.
  11. I think you paid a fair price for it. It doesn't seem as rare as it used to be. I think the consensus was that because there was the recall, there weren't many left. But since the rise of the internet and the behemoth that eBay has become, there's a lot more than what people thought. There's been 9 listings on eBay over the last month. One CIB in a group lot of boxed Tengen NES games.
  12. It's so satisfying to destroy an enemy with one hit that you were having a bit of trouble beating earlier on in the game. Just so satisfying.
  13. I didn't do a whole lot of collecting the past couple of years as I've had other priorities. But in 2012 I plan on getting a lot more Game Boy games, and selling a heap of crap that I don't use, or multiples.
  14. Battletoads pisses me right off. I can easily get past the first few levels. The turbo tunnel is pure muscle memory to me. But that damn ice level and all levels after it just churn away at my continues. If the game had unlimited continues, I would've beaten it by now, and I refuse to play it emulated with save states.
  15. Just got an email from Red Spot Games saying that Sturmwind has been delayed. Here's a copy of the text from the email in english: Sadly the production of Sturmwind has seen some complications. We a very sorry we have to bring you this news. Nevertheless we would like to thank everyone who is interested in Sturmwind for their continuous faith in this ambitious Indie project. You keep this project going. Diese Meldung ist auch in Deutsch verfügbar (siehe unten). (English) Production complications: Sturmwind is about to be delayed In spite of best planing, the release of Sturmwind has to be postponed: Our long-term CD-ROM manufacturer surprisingly had to declare bankruptcy after 19 years in business. From 40 employees only a few remained. Therefore this resulted in the situation that the scheduled delivery date for Sturmwind could not be met in the end. The only possibility has been to relocate the production - to avoid further delays of the bankrupt facility. Nevertheless items like the spaceship models have been completely manufactured already. Our new partner is one of the largest videogame CD / DVD press plants in Europe with over 50 years of experience in medium production. In the meanwhile we already placed our production order for Sturmwind. The release date is set to TBA ("to be announced") consequently. Details are currently clarified between redspotgames, Duranik and the new facility. Also we are arranging material for another announcement with more exact information within December, which will be after Christmas however. All orders in the redspotgames online shop will remain valid.
  16. I hate to say, but it sounds like you've taken what I call the harder route of the game. Early on you do something to effect whether you get the girl or the sprite first in your party. I always found it MUCH easier to get the sprite first, and then get the girl as it makes battling the werewolves so much easier. EDIT: From memory that "something" is talking to the soldiers at the Water Palace or Temple, and getting attacked by goblins. If you did this you will be getting the girl first I think. If you don't do this, you get the sprite first. It's been a while, but I'm sure that's right.
  17. I'm looking for something to store my Game Boy game boxes in. I've got a few mint condition boxes and I'd like to keep them that way. I've seen what I'm after when stores would sell GB games brand new. They were like a sealed plastic casing, and it would allow the stores to put the pricing stickers on the item without wrecking the box. Anyone got any ideas, or other solutions? EDIT: Just found what I am looking for at videogameboxprotectors.com
  18. The music is incredible! Or maybe that's nostalgia talking? Nah... And I only heard of Robotrek about 10 years ago. I don't think it got a PAL release, and the only reason I heard of it was because a mate was playing it on an emulator.
  19. Not any of them. In a couple of days I'll upload a pic. I can't at the moment because I've gone over my internet usage so it's slowed right down.
  20. Some backstory. I never played SotN when it was released because I HEARD that it takes place straight after Rondo of Blood, and there's all these story elements to do with Rondo and you won;t understand anything blah, blah, blah. Later on I found this wasn't quite true, but never really sought out the opportunity to play the game. So I finished Rondo the other day (was a great game then, is a great game now) and decided to pop in my copy of SotN that I've had sitting around for a few years now. Disappointed. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the decade of hype that I've been hearing about the game. I gave it 3 hours, and I'm just not that into it. Maybe it's the difficulty. Of those 3 hours I didn't die once! Anyway, utterly disappointed, maybe I'll just shelve it for a VERY rainy day.
  21. Just picked up a pirate Game Boy cart in the wild today. It's pretty cool. It's a 32 in 1, but really it's the same few games repeated. Not sure if it's called Color GB 32 In 1, or Game USA Color Advance. It's a grey cart, with "GAME" written on it as opposed to "Game Boy", and no markings of Nintendo. It's got Super Mario World 7 (hack), Amazing Spider-Man 3, Castelian, Flipull, Bomb Jack, and Dr. Mario. Super Mario World 7 is a hack of one of the Adventure Island games. It's odd because I normally dislike the early Adventure Island / Wonderboy games, but I like this one. Anyone come across this cart before?
  22. Are you aware that it's a remake of a GB game? I like them both. And Secret of Mana is flippin' awesome! Easily in my top 3 SNES games (Secret of Mana, Super Mario World, and Super Metroid) and I love everything about it. Sure the game was cut short after being initially for the CD system Nintendo was developing with Sony (the Playstation) but I'm not sure if the things cut would've even made it a better game. It probably would've made it a longer game, but I think the overall length of how it is it great. I enjoy playing it with friends. I plan on giving it a runthrough in a few months with a couple of new housemates that I'll be getting.
